Abstract

The self-directed curriculum places a high value on character education, which is crucial for cultivating people of extraordinary caliber in a community that governs itself. The independent curriculum places a high importance on developing students' character, which includes fostering moral ideals, ethics, honesty, leadership, and cooperation. The main goal of this character education program is to cultivate in children the qualities of responsibility, empathy, and moral integrity, thus promoting the establishment of a fair and unbiased society. Character education is crucial for implementing the autonomous curriculum and fostering a generation that possesses both academic intelligence and robust moral beliefs and positive dispositions. Character education is essential for influencing students' views and enhancing their personal development. The independent curriculum aims to strengthen the character of the Pancasila student profile by prioritizing the principles and values of Pancasila. The Pancasila Student Profile has the following components: belief in a supreme being, ethical uprightness, acknowledgment of global diversity, ability to work collaboratively, self-reliance, and analytical and creative thinking. The role of guidance and counseling teachers in promoting students' character development during the period of independent curriculum is vital.

Abstract

Background: Maternal mortality rates and infant mortality rates are very important indicators, with cases in Indonesia still relatively high. Low birth weight (LBW), defined as a birth weight of less than 2500 grams, remains one of the leading causes of infant mortality, accounting for 38.85% of total infant deaths in Indonesia. Purpose: To provide an overview of LBW cases among women of reproductive age (20-35 years) and women of high-risk age (<20 years or >35 years) at PONED. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study using secondary data from birth records with a sample of 95 live births. Conducted from November 2018 to February 2019. Results: Of the 7 LBW cases (7.4% of total births), 6 cases (8%) occurred in women of reproductive age and 1 case (6%) in women of high-risk age. This study shows a higher prevalence of LBW in the reproductive age group, which is counterintuitive compared to the general literature that identifies high-risk age as the main risk factor. This is most likely influenced by the numerical dominance of the reproductive age group in the sample, as well as the role of unmeasured confounding factors such as double burden, chronic fatigue, and socioeconomic disparities that affect access to and quality of antenatal care. Conclusion: This study concludes that LBW can occur in both age groups, but in this context, it is more prevalent in mothers of reproductive age. Therefore, a holistic screening approach that focuses on maternal age, as well as improving the quality of comprehensive antenatal care, is very important to reduce the incidence of LBW and improve the health of mothers and babies.

Abstract

The increasing use of social media among adolescents has had a significant impact on mental health, including symptoms of anxiety, depression, and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). This phenomenon indicates that social media functions not only as a tool for communication and self-expression but also as a risk factor for adolescents’ psychological well-being. This study aims to analyze and synthesize recent findings on the relationship between social media use and adolescent mental health, as well as to identify intervention strategies through guidance and counseling approaches. A library research method was employed by reviewing primary sources such as academic journals and scholarly books, along with relevant secondary literature. The findings reveal that excessive use of social media is correlated with increased anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and FOMO. Key contributing factors include cyberbullying, social comparison, and the pressure to construct a perfect online persona. Guidance and counseling interventions can address these issues through preventive, curative, and developmental services, focusing on enhancing digital literacy, emotional regulation, and psychological resilience. This study underscores the critical role of guidance and counseling in helping adolescents achieve balance between their online and offline lives, thereby supporting more stable and adaptive mental health.
