Abstract

The current layout of the production laboratory still faces obstacles that hinder both practicum activities and production processes. Inefficient machine placement causes long material transfer distances, while simultaneous machine usage leads to activity congestion that disrupts workflow. This study aims to redesign the laboratory layout by applying Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) in the higher education context. Data were collected through purposive sampling, covering existing conditions, material flow, and space requirements. The analysis was carried out using SLP to generate alternative layouts, which were then evaluated with the Blocplan program as an optimization tool. The results show that the initial layout produced material transfer distances of 125 m in the Welding Lab, 50 m in the Milling Lab, and 88 m in the Turning Lab. The proposed SLP layout reduced these distances to 55 m, 30 m, and 62 m, while Blocplan only achieved 75 m, 43 m, and 73 m, respectively. Thus, SLP proved more effective than Blocplan, reducing transfer distances by more than 50% in several laboratories. This study contributes theoretically by enriching the literature on laboratory layout and practically by offering a more efficient design that can serve as a reference for developing practicum facilities in higher education.

Abstract

SMK Negeri 8 Pinrang merupakan salah satu sekolah SMK yang banyak diminati oleh masyarakat di Pinrang. Siswa Siswi dibekali dengan ilmu berupa teori dan praktik yang dapat mereka aplikasikan langsung setelah tamat nantinya. Beberapa siswa-siswi  setiap saat melakukan praktikum demi ketercapaian kompetensinya. Siswa-siswa yang memilih untuk praktik  akan banyak bergelut dengan alat praktikum akan tetapi terkadang peralatan  yang sudah digunakan tidak dibersihkan dan dikembalikan dengan baik di posisi tempat semula sehingga kondisi peralatan  menjadi memprihatinkan . Hal ini di akibatkan karena masih minimnya pemahaman terkait prosedur perawatan yang dilakukan terhadap mesin atau peralatan yang sudah digunakan. Dengan kondisi ini, maka dilakukan pelatihan Preventif Maintenance alat praktikum untuk meningkatkan pemahaman mendalam  siswa tentang strategi perawatan yang mencegah kerusakan peralatan. Metode yang digunakan adalah memberikan pemahaman teori kepada peserta yang didalamnya terdapat diskusi tanya jawab kemudian dilanjutkan dengan  memberikan pelatihan dengan menerapkan model evaluasi kirkpatrick untuk level 2 dan level 4. Hasil pengabdian ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan secara signifikan dalam pemahaman siswa setelah diberikan pelatihan preventif maintenance dengan penerapan model evaluasi kirkpatrick diperoleh untuk level 2 pada gambar 1 di peroleh rata-rata nilai pre-test sebesar 61,7 % meningkat menjadi 83,4% pada post-test,  peningkatan yang terjadi sebesar 37,9%. Setelah pelatihan, beberapa bulan berikutnya dilakukan pengecekan kembali untul level 4 pada gambar 2 , diperoleh data yang  menunjukkan penurunan tingkat kerusakan alat sebesar 44% dibandingkan semester sebelumnya. Dengan penerapan pelatihan preventif maintenance yang dievaluasi melalui model Kirkpatrick dapat dijadikan strategi pembelajaran vokasional yang efektif dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of information technology has driven academic services to require increasingly reliable and secure systems, particularly in the assessment domain, which plays a crucial role in the learning process. This study was initiated based on findings of security issues in an existing academic grading system at a higher education institution, including unauthorized changes to student grades and vulnerabilities caused by outdated frameworks. This research aims to develop a grading system database design equipped with scheduled access management and One-Time Password (OTP) email verification to enhance the security of assessment processes. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach aligned with the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) prototyping model. The results indicate that the newly designed database using PostgreSQL successfully supports access restriction based on assessment schedules, while the integration of OTP verification effectively prevents unauthorized account usage. System testing by a supervisor demonstrated that almost all key features operated with “fully successful” status. Therefore, the developed product is considered effective in resolving security issues within academic grading systems and can serve as a reference for similar system development efforts in higher education institutions.
