Abstract

ABSTRACT Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) remain a public health problem that may affect growth, development, and quality of life, especially in areas with limited iodine intake. Limited public knowledge regarding the importance of consuming iodine-rich foods is one of the contributing factors to IDD. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge and dietary behavior regarding iodine-rich food consumption as an effort to prevent IDD in coastal areas. The implementation methods included health education, demonstrations on selecting iodine-rich food ingredients, family mentoring, interactive discussions, and evaluations using pre-test and post-test methods. The activity involved 35 participants consisting of housewives and health cadres. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge, with the average pre-test score increasing from 55 to 89 in the post-test. In addition, the community began to understand the importance of using iodized salt and consuming seafood as sources of iodine. This program proved effective in improving public awareness regarding IDD prevention through iodine-rich dietary patterns. Kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai pentingnya konsumsi makanan sumber yodium menjadi salah satu faktor penyebab terjadinya GAKY. Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic lung disease that is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. COPD develops progressively and is often diagnosed only at an advanced stage due to low public awareness of risk factors and prevention efforts. The main risk factors for COPD include smoking, exposure to air pollution, and an unhealthy lifestyle. This Community Service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of COPD. Implementation methods included health education, interactive discussions, education on clean and healthy living behaviors, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. The results of the activity showed an increase in public knowledge and changes in attitudes toward COPD-risk behaviors. Healthy lifestyle education is expected to contribute to COPD prevention efforts and improve the community's quality of life.

Abstract

Background : Stunting is a chronic growth disorder caused by complex interactions between inadequate nutrition , recurrent infections , inadequate caregiving , and environmental Coastal conditions communities May face specific challenges related to socioeconomic conditions , food access , sanitation , and health services. Objective : This study aimed to analyze the determinants associated with stunting among children under five years old living on the coast areas. Methods : This quantitative analytical study used a cross-sectional design . The sample consisted of 96 mothers with children aged 24–59 months selected using purposive sampling. The independent variables included maternal education , family income , feeding practices , history of infectious diseases , and sanitation , while stunting status was the dependent variables . Data were collected through questionnaires , interviews , and anthropometric measurements . Data were analyzed using the Chi- Square test. Results : Among 96 children , 31 (32.3%) were classified as stunted and 65 (67.7%) were not stunted . Significant associations were found between maternal education (p=0.014), feeding practices (p=0.006), history of infectious disease (p=0.021), and sanitation (p=0.009) with stunting . Family income was also associated with stunting (p=0.032). Conclusion : Maternal education , family income , feeding practices , history of infectious diseases , and sanitation were significantly associated with stunting among children living on the coast areas . Integrated interventions involving nutrition , health , sanitation , and family empowerment is needed to prevent stunting .
