Abstract

Clean and healthy living behavior is a behavior that is practiced by students, teachers and the school community on the basis of awareness as a result of learning, so that independently they are able to prevent disease, improve their health, and play an active role in creating a healthy environment. Early learning given at school age helps in instilling awareness of the importance of cleanliness as an effort to maintain health. School-age children are a critical age group, because at that age a child is vulnerable to health problems. In addition to being vulnerable to health problems, school-age children are also in a condition that is very sensitive to stimuli so that they are easily guided, directed and instilled good habits, including clean and healthy living habits. Community service activities in Biraengng Village, Minasatene District, Pangkep Regency were carried out well in one meeting, namely on May 16 2023 which was attended by around 35 participants. Participants in this service are school-age children. This PKM aims to provide information for students about PHBS at SD Negeri Pangkep. The implementation method is carried out with counseling and simulations on how to wash hands and brush your teeth properly. PHBS counseling for school children at Pangkep Public Elementary School ran smoothly, all participants were very enthusiastic about participating in this PKM activity.

Abstract

Low knowledge and wrong perceptions about family planning and contraceptives cause women to be afraid of using contraceptives. This is an indicator of high maternal mortality rates, especially in countries with high population growth rates but with low contraceptive prevalence. Providing video-based media as an audiovisual medium can help as a way to convey effective information to increase public knowledge. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of video-based media on the knowledge of family planning acceptors about the importance of family planning in the Puskesmas work area. This research uses a quantitative type of research with an experimental design research method, namely pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. Sampling used a non-probability sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed by conducting a non-parametric statistical test, namely the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The research results showed that it was accepted, which means that there was an influence of video-based media on the knowledge of family planning acceptors about the importance of family planning. The conclusion in this research is that there is an influence after providing video-based media on the knowledge of family planning acceptor mothers about the importance of family planning in the work area of the Community Health Center.

Abstract

Globally, pneumonia is one of the diseases that causes morbidity and mortality in low-income countries. Pneumonia is a major cause of death in toddlers and young children. Bacteria, viruses, and fungi are pathogenic agents and play a role in causing pneumonia. The etiology of pneumonia varies based on epidemiological circumstances, comorbidities and whether the pneumonia is community-acquired or hospital-acquired. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the physical environment of the home and the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers in villages. This type of research is analytical quantitative research with a cross-sectional study approach with a sampling technique, namely simple random sampling. Data collection techniques use observation sheets. The data analysis used was univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with the Chi Square test. The results of this study can be concluded that there is a relationship between housing density and the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers. It is expected that the Health Center will always monitor the development of pneumonia cases in toddlers that occur in the Work Area of the Health Center which are caused by the physical environment of the house that does not meet the requirements.

Abstract

Background: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a major risk factor contributing to stunting in children. A local food-based supplementary feeding (PMT) program has been implemented in several stunting-prone areas as a promotive-preventive strategy to improve the nutritional status of pregnant women. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of the local food-based PMT program in reducing the prevalence of CED among pregnant women in stunting-prone areas. Methods: This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental pre-post test design without a control group. Subjects were 60 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters in the intervention area. Data were collected through measurements of mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), body mass index (BMI), and nutritional intake questionnaires over a 3-month period. Results: There was a significant increase in mean MUAC from 22.8 cm to 24.1 cm (p<0.05), as well as an increase in daily energy and protein intake based on a 24-hour food recall. A total of 68.3% of respondents who were initially at risk of CED experienced improvements in nutritional status after the program was implemented. Conclusion: The local food-based PMT program is effective in reducing the risk of chronic energy deficiency syndrome (CED) and improving the nutritional status of pregnant women. Recommendations include integrating PMT into routine integrated health post (Posyandu) policies and sustainable use of local food resources.

Abstract

Environmental health is a crucial indicator of public health development, and the role of sanitation workers in community health centers (Puskesmas) is crucial in maintaining a healthy environment. However, environmental health program implementation remains challenging due to staff's limited understanding of program management aspects, such as planning, implementation, and evaluation. This Community Service Program (PKM) activity aims to improve the capacity of sanitation workers through environmental health program management training. This activity was held at Community Health Center X over two days, involving 20 sanitation workers from the community health center's work area. The training methods used included interactive lectures, group discussions, case studies, and program development simulations. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and post-tests, as well as assessments of program development practices. The results of the activity demonstrated significant improvements in participants' knowledge and skills, particularly in designing annual activity plans based on data and local needs. This training strengthened the capacity of sanitation workers to manage environmental health programs systematically, participatory, and sustainably. It is hoped that this activity will serve as a training model that can be replicated in other community health centers to improve the quality of environmental health services.

Abstract

Village Alert Cadres are at the forefront of early detection and response to health problems at the village level. Cadres' limited understanding of epidemiology concepts and risk reporting has weakened the early warning system. The objective of this activity was to increase the capacity of cadres in health risk mapping and case reporting based on basic epidemiological principles. The activity was implemented through training, risk mapping simulations, and practice in preparing case reports. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in cadres' understanding and skills after the training. It is hoped that this activity will serve as a replicable training model in other areas to strengthen community-based health systems.

Abstract

Extraordinary Events (KLB) are a serious threat to public health that require rapid and appropriate response. The active role of the community is crucial in early detection and response to outbreaks, particularly through a community epidemiology approach. This article discusses the implementation of a community epidemiology-based community empowerment program in outbreak-prone areas. Implementation methods included education, cadre training, outbreak response simulations, and citizen-based monitoring. Results showed increased community knowledge, community preparedness, and a reduction in delays in case reporting. The conclusion of this activity is that the community epidemiology approach is effective in building a community-based early detection and rapid response system.
