Abstract

This training aims to increase the knowledge of vaname shrimp farmers in Lenyeun Village, Leupung, Aceh Besar in rearing using bofolx tarpaulin. The focus is on basic cultivation principles, quality seeds, water management, feeding, and pond environment. The training involves lectures, interactive discussions, and practice in the field. Participants have the opportunity to observe and participate in direct practicum. The hope is that they will be able to apply enlargement techniques and optimize bofolx tarpaulins in cultivation. The ultimate goal is to increase vaname shrimp production in the village, providing a positive impact on the economy and welfare of the local community. Key words: training, vaname shrimp rearing, bofolx tarpaulin, Lenyeun Village, Leupung, Aceh Besar, cultivation, shrimp production.

Abstract

One of Indonesia's fishery commodities that has bright prospects for development is catfish (Oreochromis niloticus) which has been known for a long time, grows relatively quickly and has a good response to its environment so it is very easy to cultivate. Fisheries statistics data from the Directorate General of Aquaculture for 2018 states that catfish production increases every year. In 2014 it was 999,695 tons, in 2015 it was 1,084,281 tons, in 2016 and 2017 it was 1,114,156 tons, catfish production reached 4,463,333 tons in the last five years. The experimental design used in this research was a randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 repetitions. The treatments are: Treatment MK46 (Feeding 40% maggot and 60% commercial), Treatment MK55 (Feeding 50% maggot and 50% commercial), Treatment MK64 (Feeding 60% maggot and 40% commercial) and Treatment K (Giving 100% commercial feed). The data obtained was then analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Based on the research results, it showed that the highest length growth was in the MK55 treatment with a patini of 3.50 ± 0.10b. The highest weight growth was in the MK55 treatment with patini 4.40 ± 0.111b. The highest specific growth rate was obtained by MK55 treatment with patini 3.78 ± 0.017b. The highest feed efficiency was obtained in the MK55 treatment with patini of 77.67 ± 2.082b, while the highest survival rate was obtained in the MK46 treatment with patini of 83.33 ± 3.512a.

Abstract

Aceh has a lot of local wisdom in managing coastal dan marine resources. This research is aimed to (1) investigate form of local wisdom and tradition in Mukim Mane in managing coastal resources, (2) analyzing organization and policy who supervise the management of coastal resources through local wisdom and (3) analyzing strategy to strengthen societys local wisdom in managing coastal resources. This research was held in Mukim Mane Muara Batu District North Aceh. The method used is survey method with qualitative approach. The informants are Imum Mukim, Panglima Laot Lhok, fisherman, and local society. The result showed that the forms of coastal resources management are (1) the existance of prohibition day to sail, (2) taking care of other fisherman while sailing, (3) regulation to not cut down the mangroove forest (4) keeping the coral reefs (5) keeping the cleanliness of estuary and beach. The organization and policy who supervise the running of local wisdom in Mukim Mane are Panglima Laot and Aceh Qanuns. Strategies that can be done to strengthen local wisdom are by (1) incresing the role sinergy among government, college, panglima laot, and society and (2) developing the coastal society through cooperation, social unity, media, work relation pattern, and awareness about the importance of environment.

Abstract

Contamination of palm oil mill effluent (POME) into water bodies potentially increases turbidity, resulting in disrupting aquatic organisms behaviour, including predation period. However, the effect of increased turbidity due to POME contamination toward the fish predation is still unexplored. Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens) is one of the ideal test fish to investigate this effect. This study aims to analyze the effect of increased turbidity due to POME contamination toward the fish predation period of Siamese fighting fish. The research design was completely randomized with six treatments (0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 NTU) followed by five repetitions for each treatment. The experimental data parameters include the predation rate of Siamese fighting fish during foraging activity, which was calculated from the percentage of the number of mosquito larvae consumed per 2 min during 15 min. The significance level of predation between treatments in each observation time period was analyzed using a one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with the confidence interval set at the 95% level. The results showed that at a turbidity level of 100 NTU, the predation period of Siamese fighting fish had been altered. In the period of 0-2 min, the predation rate decreased significantly. Meanwhile, the predation rate increased significantly during the period of 2-4 and 8-10 min. This finding should be considered to support POME remediation management, especially turbidity parameters. Keywords:POMEFeeding periodForaging areaTurbidity
