Abstract

This study was motivated by the existence of illegal oil drilling activities that have been going on for a long time and pose a high risk to the safety of workers, even local residents. Even though oil well fires often occur and victims suffer from burns and even death, this activity still continues. This research uses a qualitative approach, with a case study type of research based on observation, interview and documentation data. Meanwhile, technical analysis is carried out through Narrative Analysis. The research results show that the phenomenon of drilling old oil wells in Buket Pala Village has been carried out for decades. Mining workers have been able to utilize available resources so that they have more economic value. The old oil well has become the lifeblood of the village community. It is good for the mining community as well as for residents who receive an abundance of oil proceeds from "oil melting" activities. Apart from that, the existence of mining old oil wells also poses dangerous risks such as work accidents, fires, explosions and even fatalities. Apart from that, pollution and environmental damage will also occur. The situation was made worse because the activity did not meet standard operational procedures or technical requirements for the mining process. Therefore, in the future, efforts will be made to manage old oil wells by village/regional companies, namely BUMD/BUMG and Village Unit Cooperatives (KUD). This is intended to achieve the aim of improving the welfare of the community evenly around the location as well as to regulate the business of extracting oil from old wells, so that the management of existing old oil wells will no longer occur illegal drilling and increase village income.

Abstract

This article aims to explore whether Aceh's special autonomy has served more as a bridge to reconciliation or as a source of new tensions in the region. The article will examine various aspects of the implementation of special autonomy in Aceh, including the political, social and economic dynamics that accompanied it. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Through a comprehensive analysis, it is found that Aceh's special autonomy is a complex concept with various accompanying dynamics. On the one hand, special autonomy can serve as a bridge to reconciliation by providing space for the people of Aceh to express their identity and be involved in decision-making processes. However, on the other hand, special autonomy can also be a source of new tensions due to different interpretations of authority, conflicts of interest among local elites, and unresolved welfare issues. The challenges and dynamics of special autonomy in Aceh after the Helsinki MoU demonstrate the complexity of the situation faced by the province. While there are challenges in implementing special autonomy, there are also opportunities to strengthen democratic processes, economic empowerment, and socio-cultural integration in Aceh.

Abstract

The rise of exclusive-formalistic religious interpretations is a series of facts that emphasize how the graph of the seeds of religious radicalism in Indonesia and Aceh, in particular, is increasingly undeniable. Referring to this phenomenon, this research aims to study the strengthening of political democracy and national identity based on local values and culture, which is the standard of political behavior in Aceh. This research method uses descriptive qualitative data from interviews, FGDs, questionnaires, and literature studies. The results obtained: First, the interpretation of Dayah Ulama towards the narrative of religious moderation looks dynamic and varied. On the one hand, in quantity, most Dayah Ulama do not question the narrative of religious moderation, including accepting its derivative concepts. On the other hand, it indicates a form of fragmentation in accepting the narrative of religious moderation. Second, the majority of Dayah Ulama show acceptance of the narrative of religious moderation with pre-conditions. The attitude shown must be based on existing Islamic Sharia and Acehnese customs regulations. Third, conservative and exclusive attitudes appear negotiable, meaning that these attitudes can fade if religious interests are not disturbed.

Abstract

Increasing political participation is certainly not an easy job, there needs to be support from several parties or groups. One group that is considered capable of inviting people to increase political participation is farmer groups. Especially for people who live in rural areas. One of the villages that has a farmer group is Gampong Blang Cut, Peusangan District in Bireuen Regency. The purpose of the research is to find out the role of the farmer group in increasing community political participation and to find out the obstacles faced by farmer groups in increasing community political participation. The research method uses qualitative techniques. The results of this study indicate that; the level of participation of farmer groups tends to be low. Constraining factors such as gaps in the political capacity of farmer groups, fragmentation and limited resources, apathy and dependence on the government are often the main causes of the low political participation of farmer groups. This situation ultimately weakens the capacity of farmer groups to develop and fight for a political agenda that truly reflects their needs and aspirations. Therefore, systematic efforts are needed to restructure farmer group organizations to be more oriented towards political participation such as; (1) Recognition of Customary Values; (2) Community involvement in the decision-making process of village development; (3) Strengthening the partnership network of grassroots institutions; (4) Strengthening discussion and dialogue forums.

This research used qualitative methods based on interview data, questionnaires, and literature studies. The results showed that the ulama dayah had a lot of capital and power to build power. These dimensions could be classified as follows: 1) the level dimension in the power structure of ulama was very central and able to influence local and even national political constellations; 2) with personal qualities and public belief in the Keuramat (sacred) and temeureuka (damned) owned by the ulama, indicating the legitimacy of power in the form of “visible and invisible power” in the Aceh ulama; 3) through dayah institutions, networks of religious organizations and the Ulema Consultative Assembly had provided ample space for Aceh ulama to build their identity and power as holders of religious and social authority in the public sphere.

Abstract

Indonesia faces a growing energy demand amid increasing environmental and economic challenges, particularly due to its continued reliance on fossil fuels. While national policies and international commitments have set ambitious targets for renewable energy adoption, implementation at the local level remains limited. This study aims to explore the opportunities and challenges of accelerating renewable energy transition policies in Lhokseumawe, Aceh, using a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and document analysis involving key stakeholders and local communities. The findings reveal that although Lhokseumawe has substantial renewable energy potential and widespread public utility coverage, local efforts are hampered by insufficient funding, regulatory ambiguities, technical capacity gaps, and deeply rooted traditional practices such as informal oil drilling. Nonetheless, positive developments are observed in the form of local energy planning initiatives, public-private partnerships, and increasing community engagement. This research underscores the need for stronger local government authority, innovative financing, and community empowerment to bridge the gap between national policy ambitions and local realities, providing practical insights for Indonesia’s just and inclusive energy transition.
