Abstract

The Student Leadership Basic Training (LDKO) program at MAN Sidoarjo was conducted as a character-building initiative to strengthen students’ discipline and responsibility through experiential learning. Discipline in the educational context extends beyond mere compliance with school rules; it involves self-regulation, time management, and alignment of behavior with moral and social values. This study employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method combined with a quantitative descriptive approach to measure the effectiveness of LDKO in improving student discipline. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and interviews involving 56 participants, evaluated based on five key indicators: punctuality, compliance with school regulations, neat appearance, responsibility in completing tasks, and teamwork. The findings revealed an overall increase in discipline scores from 2.50 to 3.54, with an average improvement of 1.04 points. The highest improvement was observed in teamwork, followed by responsibility and adherence to rules. These results suggest that LDKO effectively fosters disciplined behavior through leadership training, structured activities, and reflective learning. Furthermore, the program encourages the development of participatory and sustainable leadership among students within the school environment.

Abstract

The Tahfidzul Qur’an program at MAN Sidoarjo serves as a strategic effort to shape students’ religious character by reinforcing Qur’anic values in their daily lives. This study employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, involving tahfidz teachers, students, and researchers collaboratively through stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research involved 20 purposively selected tahfidz students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, religiosity questionnaires, and documentation, and analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques.The findings indicate a significant improvement in students’ religious character, with the average religiosity score increasing from 2.76 to 3.81, a gain of 1.05 points. Positive changes were observed in prayer discipline, honesty, responsibility, and social awareness. The tahfidz program not only enhanced memorization skills but also fostered spiritual awareness, moral integrity, and self-control. The school’s religious environment played an essential role in strengthening the internalization of Qur’anic values. Therefore, the Tahfidzul Qur’an program can be considered a sustainable model for character development in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to develop audio-visual media to enhance student understanding in Islamic Education at Madrasah Aliyah Tulungagung. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed to explore in-depth the processes and experiences associated with the use of this media. The research subjects included Islamic Education teachers, students, the headmaster, and curriculum staff. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), participant observations, and documentation. Data analysis involved transcription, coding, categorization, and interpretation. The findings indicate that audiovisual media are effective in assisting students in understanding complex and abstract concepts in Islamic education. This media also boosts student motivation and engagement in learning. However, the use of this media faces challenges such as limited technological facilities and preparation time constraints. The study recommends enhancing support for facilities and providing training for teachers to optimize the use of audio-visual media. With appropriate support, this media has the potential to become an effective tool in improving the quality of Islamic education at Madrasah Aliyah Tulungagung and other madrasahs in Indonesia.

Abstract

Permasalahan kebersihan lingkungan masih menjadi isu penting di tingkat masyarakat desa, termasuk di desa Jati, Sidoarjo. Rendahnya kesadaran sebagian masyarakat terhadap kebersihan lingkungan tercermin dari perilaku membuang sampah sembarangan, kurangnya pengelolaan sampah, serta minimnya kepedulian terhadap kelestarian lingkungan. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan partisipasi aktif generasi muda serta masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan dan kelestarian lingkungan melalui pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR). Metode PAR diterapkan melalui tahapan identifikasi masalah bersama masyarakat, perencanaan aksi, pelaksanaan kegiatan, observasi, dan refleksi evaluatif secara partisipatif. Bentuk kegiatan meliputi aksi bersih lingkungan, pembersihan saluran air, serta pemangkasan cabang pohon yang melibatkan keterlibatan langsung masyarakat dan generasi muda setempat. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan partisipasi masyarakat serta perubahan kondisi lingkungan yang menjadi lebih bersih, asri, dan nyaman. Selain memberikan dampak fisik terhadap lingkungan, kegiatan ini juga menumbuhkan nilai gotong royong, kepedulian sosial, dan kesadaran kolektif akan pentingnya menjaga kebersihan lingkungan secara berkelanjutan. Kegiatan PKM berjalan dengan lancar sesuai dengan rencana yang telah disepakati bersama masyarakat

Abstract

Religious education based on the Qur’an plays a strategic role in shaping individuals’ spiritual, cognitive, and social development. However, in the Tambak Sumur community, Sidoarjo Regency, a gap remains between strong religious traditions and the depth of Qur’anic literacy, particularly among children and adolescents. This condition is further exacerbated by technological developments that shift religious activities away from mosques and prayer rooms. Therefore, this PKM activity aimed to improve the quality of worship and Qur’anic literacy through a joint Qur’an recitation program at the Al-Hidayah Tambak Sumur Musholla during the month of Ramadan. This PKM activity employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which emphasizes the identification and utilization of existing community assets, including religious facilities, social solidarity, and the role of local religious leaders. The results showed that the joint recitation program was well received and generated high enthusiasm among participants, especially children. The activity contributed to improving participants’ Qur’an reading skills in accordance with tajwid rules, strengthening motivation to learn, and fostering mutual learning and social interaction. In conclusion, the joint Qur’an recitation PKM program proved effective in improving Qur’anic literacy, enhancing the quality of worship during Ramadan, and fostering a more religious, harmonious, and socially cohesive community. The activity is recommended to be continued on a regular basis to ensure sustainable impact.

Abstract

Campus cleanliness is a crucial aspect in creating a healthy and comfortable learning environment. Community participation and student participation are essential in improving campus cleanliness. This community service activity aims to determine how community participation and student participation contribute to improving campus cleanliness. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR). Data collection techniques include observation and interviews. The results indicate that community participation and student participation can improve campus cleanliness through activities such as mutual cooperation (gotong royong), cleanliness campaigns, and environmental education. This activity is expected to contribute to the development of strategies for improving campus cleanliness sustainably.

Abstract

General Background: Environmental degradation has increasingly positioned education and religious institutions as strategic arenas for cultivating ecological responsibility. Specific Background: Islamic boarding schools hold distinctive potential to integrate Islamic teachings with daily environmental practices, particularly within child-friendly pesantren contexts. Knowledge Gap: Existing studies tend to address environmental education in pesantren partially, without simultaneously integrating eco-pesantren programs, Islamic character formation, and child-friendly educational principles. Aims: This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Eco-Pesantren program in forming Islamic character and environmental awareness among students at the child-friendly At-Tahdzib Islamic Boarding School in Jombang. Results: Using a qualitative case study approach through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, the findings show that integrating Islamic values with environmental conservation activities—such as Green Friday programs, automatic water faucets, tree planting, 3R-based waste management, and energy conservation—contributes to observable changes in students’ ecological behavior and character, including reduced ablution water use, decreased electricity consumption, increased waste sorting consistency, reduced plastic waste, and improved understanding of environmental jurisprudence. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its holistic integration of eco-pesantren practices, Islamic character education, and child-friendly pesantren principles within a contextual Islamic education model. Implications: These findings provide empirical and conceptual contributions for developing sustainable Islamic education models that align spiritual values with environmental responsibility. Abstract

Synergy and mutual cooperation (gotong royong) between students and the community are important factors in maintaining environmental quality around the university site. This article discusses community service involving collaboration between students and the surrounding community to increase awareness and participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness, particularly in addressing waste accumulation and river blockages caused by water hyacinth. This activity is a PAR-based community service (PAR), which positions students and the community as subjects of social change through planning and concrete action stages. The results of this community service show significant changes in physical and social indicators, namely: (1) the restoration of smooth river drainage flow after removing water hyacinth sedimentation; (2) the creation of roadside areas that are clean from wild garbage and vines; and (3) increasing active participation of residents in flood risk mitigation through a culture of mutual cooperation. The main conclusion is that community service with participatory methods is effective not only for physical cleanliness, but also as a means of knowledge transfer and the formation of sustainable environmental care characters.ABSTRAKSinergi dan kerja sama timbal balik (gotong royong) antara mahasiswa dan masyarakat merupakan faktor penting dalam menjaga kualitas lingkungan di sekitar kampus. Artikel ini membahas pengabdian masyarakat yang melibatkan kolaborasi antara mahasiswa dan masyarakat sekitar untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan partisipasi dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan, khususnya dalam mengatasi penumpukan sampah dan penyumbatan sungai akibat eceng gondok. Kegiatan ini adalah pengabdian masyarakat berbasis PAR (participatory action research), yang menempatkan mahasiswa dan masyarakat sebagai subjek perubahan sosial melalui tahapan perencanaan dan aksi konkret. Hasil pengabdian masyarakat ini menunjukkan perubahan signifikan pada indikator fisik dan sosial, yakni: (1) pulihnya kelancaran aliran drainase sungai setelah pengangkatan sedimentasi eceng gondok; (2) terciptanya kawasan bahu jalan yang bersih dari sampah liar dan tanaman rambat; serta (3) meningkatnya partisipasi aktif warga dalam mitigasi risiko banjir melalui budaya gotong royong. Kesimpulan utamanya adalah pengabdian masyarakat dengan metode partisipatif efektif tidak hanya untuk kebersihan fisik, tetapi juga sebagai sarana transfer pengetahuan dan pembentukan karakter kepedulian lingkungan yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes and learning interest of third-grade students in Pendidikan Pancasila at MI Raudlatul Muta’alimin Wonokasian as indicated by teacher-centred instruction and limited media variation that leaves students passive and easily bored, necessitate innovation in more interactive learning media. This study aimed to analyze the effect of using Smart Box media on students’ learning outcomes and learning interest. A quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design was employed, involving one experimental class (n = 31) using Smart Box and one control class (n = 22) using a wheel-of-fortune medium. The research instruments consisted of a learning achievement test (5 items) and a learning interest questionnaire (12 statements), while data were analyzed using independent-samples t-tests. The results showed that the mean posttest score of the experimental class (81.29) was higher than that of the control class (68.18), and the N-Gain of learning interest in the experimental class reached 53.00% (medium category), whereas the control class only achieved 29.96% (low category). These findings indicate that the use of Smart Box media has a significant effect on improving students’ learning outcomes and learning interest. The study underscores the importance of utilizing innovative and interactive learning media to promote more effective, meaningful, and learner-centred Pendidikan Pancasila instruction.
