Abstract

Background: Academic examinations, especially practical exams such as OSCE, often trigger high levels of anxiety among nursing students. Anxiety arises from environmental pressure, limited time, and strict regulations, which negatively affect students’ performance. Non-pharmacological interventions, particularly breathing relaxation techniques combined with spiritual elements, are considered effective to reduce anxiety before examinations. Purpose: To identify the effect of modified deep breathing relaxation techniques with dzikr on the anxiety levels of nursing students facing OSCE at Muhammadiyah University of Sukabumi. Method: This research was a randomized control trial with parallel group design. A total of 36 nursing students were recruited and divided equally into intervention and control groups using simple random sampling. The intervention group received modified deep breathing relaxation combined with dzikr prior to OSCE, while the control group did not receive the intervention. Anxiety was measured using the Zung Self Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) before and after the OSCE. Data were analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk, Levene test, paired t-test, independent t-test, and Cohen’s d. Results: The findings showed a significant reduction in anxiety in the intervention group, with the mean score decreasing from 66.72 to 53.72 (p = 0.000). Conversely, the control group experienced an increase in anxiety, from 43.17 to 48.39 (p = 0.017). The difference between groups was statistically significant (p = 0.049) with a medium effect size (0.682). Conclusion: Modified deep breathing relaxation combined with dzikr is effective in reducing anxiety among OSCE participants. Nursing education institutions are encouraged to apply this technique as part of routine preparation to help students manage anxiety before practical examinations.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Anxiety experienced by patients' families in the Emergency Room (ER) can negatively affect medical decision-making and interactions with healthcare providers. Psychoeducation is one approach that can help families manage anxiety by increasing their knowledge and understanding of the patient's condition and the emergency service process. This study aims to determine the effect of psychoeducation on the anxiety levels of patients' families in the ER of Jampang Kulon Regional General Hospital. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. A total of 32 respondents were randomly divided into intervention and control groups, with 16 participants in each group. The intervention group received psychoeducation, while the control group received no treatment. The research instrument used was the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Wilcoxon test results showed a significant decrease in anxiety levels after psychoeducation was given (p-value = 0.001), and the Mann-Whitney test indicated a significant difference between the intervention and control groups after the intervention (p-value = 0.000). The study concludes that psychoeducation is effective in reducing anxiety levels among patients' families in the ER. This intervention is expected to become a nursing strategy to improve the comfort and emotional stability of patients' families in emergency settings. Keywords: Psychoeducation, Anxiety, Patients' Families, Emergency Room.

Abstract

The Central Statistics Agency reported a continued rise in the elderly population in Indonesia, indicating a growing demographic shift toward an aging society. Alongside this trend, a considerable proportion of older adults have been facing various health challenges. Many elderly individuals reported experiencing health problems within a recent period, reflecting a notable level of morbidity among this age group. The Central Statistics Agency of Sukabumi City noted, based on the results of the 2020 census, the elderly population in Sukabumi City amounted to 42,275 people and in Cibeureum sub-district there were 4,518 people and in Cibeureum Hilir Health Center there were 300 elderly people, using quantitative descriptive collegiate with a cross-sectional approach. the results of the static test using the chi-square p> value were 0.002 < 0.05 that the form of attention, assistance, enthusiasm and motivation from the family played a role in improving the quality of life of the elderly. So, it can be concluded that there is a relationship of family emotional support to the quality of life of the elderly in the working area of the Cibeureum Hilir Health Center, Sukabumi City. The researcher assumes that if each respondent receives good family support, their quality of life will be better. Conversely, if the emotional support from the family is lacking, it will negatively affect the elderly's quality of life.
