Abstract

Abstract. The problem of food is indeed a very complicated problem to discuss and is a fundamental matter for humans. Because it involves survival and survival and is related to other problems. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government is again planning to re-utilize sago as a staple food that needs to be developed through the Nusantara Sago Week 2020. Sago contributes to the fulfillment of food in Indonesia, not only rice and can provide economic opportunities. In the Mentawai Islands, is an area that has a lot of land and sago plants. However, this has not been ignored for a long time because many programs from the government are contradictory and have resulted in sago land and the Sarereiket community being pressured. So that their access to food, which is mainly sago, has begun to be disrupted. This study uses an ethnographic approach with interpretation analysis. So that they can question and answer doubts about the phenomenon of food problems in South Siberut, especially for the Sarereiket people. Government intervention through policies and programs that lead to food causes harm and duality to the Sarereiket people. So they are in a dilemma and trapped in the simalakama trap of "eating or not eating sago" which is still being felt. Therefore, food sovereignty in South Siberut needs to be reviewed and measured according to the current situation in South Siberut. Keywords: Food Sovereignty, Food security, Mentawai, Sarereiket.

Abstract

Traditional medicine still has an important role in overcoming health problems in some Indonesian people, especially in people who live far from the reach of modern medical health services, such as Nagari Maek, Regency 50 Kota of West Sumatra Province. The relationship between the etiology of disease and the use of traditional medicinal herbs and plants by battra (people who heal) in the Minangkabau tribe needs to be explained. This research examines the etiology of disease related to disease symptoms, causes, concepts of health and disease, as well as physical treatment of sick people. This research was conducted in the Nagari Maek community, Regency 50 Kota with 5 informants, 10 of whom were patients or had been patients. The research uses ethnographic type qualitative methods, namely observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that the diseases that occur in the Nagari Maek community are caused by personalistic causes (diseases caused by the supernatural through shamans who aim to cause disease) and naturalistic causes (diseases caused by food, unclean environments, conditions in a person's body such as blood clogged, blood not flowing smoothly and so on). Diseases caused by personalism, in general, battra perform external treatment by soaking the concoction and sprinkling it on the patient's body, distributing the air concoction throughout the sick person's body and emitting smoke from the concoction into the patient's body. Meanwhile, diseases caused by naturalistic causes are treated by using concoctions that have been made to be drunk or eaten by the patient being treated.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the socio-economic life of the fishing community in Purus Village, Padang City. The problem in the article concerns the socio-economic conditions of fishing communities in Padang City. This research was conducted on fishing communities in Purus Village, Padang City using ethnographic qualitative methods through observation, structured interviews, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The results of the research can be concluded: First, the reason for choosing a job as a fisherman is because this job is a job passed down from ancestors; they feel destined to be fishermen, do not have the capital to open another business, have a low level of education, and have no other skills. Second, the relationship between fishermen and their family members is not very close, because they are busy with their respective activities until the afternoon. Third, education in fishing families is generally only limited to middle and high school, because the costs are considered expensive and children lack motivation to study and continue their education to tertiary level. Fourth, there are still many fishing communities that do not have their own homes and live in simple rented houses. Fifth, income from fishing in the sea is uncertain, like a 'tiger's fortune', sometimes you get quite a lot of fish, and sometimes you don't catch any fish. The lack of socio-economic welfare of the fishing community in Purus, Padang City is influenced by unstable economic income.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the forms of social cohesion among single-parent female farmers in Sangia Tiworo Village, South Tiworo District, West Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with an ethnographic method, this research focuses on how social cohesion empowers single-parent female farmers in their daily lives. The findings reveal that the solidarity built among them serves as a crucial factor in maintaining their motivation to manage agricultural land, particularly in cultivating patchouli plants (Pogostemon cablin Benth). The spirit of cooperation among patchouli farmers is evident in various stages, including land preparation, seedling, plant maintenance, and post-harvest activities. This support system encourages them to continue developing their agricultural land despite the challenges they face as single parents. In addition to solidarity, their success is also influenced by a strong work ethic. Principles such as hard work, discipline in time management, proactive engagement in farming, honesty, openness, responsibility, and a strong commitment serve as the foundation for the sustainability of their agricultural endeavors.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the agricultural cooperative strategies of the Julo-Julo group for shallot production in Solok, West Sumatra. This study was conducted in 2024 in Lolo Village, Solok Regency. This study was analyzed using George Homan's social exchange theory. This theory explains that social behavior can be understood as a process of exchange between individuals or social groups. The principles of George Homan's social exchange theory include exchange, benefits, costs, balance, and social influence. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. This research will be conducted from September to November 2024. The selection of informants was carried out using purposive sampling techniques. The informants in this study numbered 20 people (5 key informants and 15 regular informants). Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study are: (1) land management strategies, namely using superior seeds and organic fertilizers. The use of superior seeds can affect the growth of plants and harvest yields, while using organic fertilizers can provide many benefits, such as improving soil quality and plant productivity. (2) Financial management strategies, namely, not using a direct payment system and cost management. The payment system used by the Julo-Julo group does not use a direct payment system in the form of money. The payment system they use uses other resources, namely the workforce, to carry out joint land processing. The management of Julo-Julo group costs for farmers in Lolo village is more burdened with preparations before planting, starting from purchasing seeds, plastic mulch, fertilizer, and pesticides. (3) Social management strategy is seen in communication management, time management, and joint risk management.
