Abstract

Abstract

Ulapato B Village, located in Telaga Biru District, Gorontalo Regency, is one of the leading sectors of the Gorontalo Provincial government. Agriculture is a source of livelihood for people in this area. Corn is one of the farming programs that revives the people in the area. In Ulapato B Village, this corn commodity is very popular. However, corn production also produces waste, which if not managed properly can cause environmental problems. Stalks, seed coats, and cobs are some of the components of corn waste. Most people consider this waste as production residue that has no economic value. As a result, corn waste is often ignored or simply thrown away, which can harm the environment.  Therefore, skills are needed to process corn waste into useful products. So the method used in this service activity is to carry out training in processing corn waste into handicraft products, briquettes and biochar. From this training activity, the community showed a positive response, where the training participants were enthusiastic about processing corn waste and increasing their knowledge about the use of corn waste so that corn waste would not become environmental waste.  Keywords: biochar; briquettes; handycrafts; corn waste; ulapato B Abstrak: Desa Ulapato B yang terletak di Kecamatan Telaga Biru, Kabupaten Gorontalo adalah salah satu sektor unggulan pemerintah Provinsi Gorontalo. Abstract

Horticulture has great potential because compared to food crops, these plants can be harvested several times a year, making it a solution to improving people's welfare. The development of horticulture is expected to increase land productivity, encourage food diversification, and improve the economic welfare of farmers. However, obstacles in understanding horticultural farming analysis, especially in analyzing the profits and feasibility of farming, are obstacles in projecting the potential profits of horticulture as agricultural potential at the local level. KT Al-Hidayah faces one of the challenges in developing horticultural cultivation, namely a lack of understanding of farming analysis. So in-depth knowledge of this matter is needed in order to optimize strategies and decision making in farming. The methods implemented in this activity are training and mentoring. In training activities, the implementing team focuses on farming analysis and farmer group management. Then after the training activity, assistance is provided to optimize the results obtained in the training activity. There are still many participants who do not know about farming analysis before this activity is carried out. So that after training and mentoring, almost 100% of participants can understand farming analysis well and are willing to apply the knowledge gained to the business they run. So the expected output from this community service activity is that farmers can know and understand correctly how good farming analysis can be achieved, so that this can develop their farming business by obtaining the expected profits. Farming analysis training activities in order to optimize the dissemination of various types of horticulture farming provide benefits to horticultural farmers, where there is an increase in the ability to analyze farming based on post test results which show that 96.5% of participants are able to understand farming analysis well.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to enhance the nutritional quality of processed food products by diversifying those made from sorghum. In Gorontalo, sorghum cultivation and processing into ready-to-eat food products were well-established. Active community participation in developing sorghum commodities was vital, prompting initiatives to process sorghum into widely recognized products. During training sessions, it was emphasized that all team members, from workers to management, needed to be knowledgeable and skilled in implementing Standard Sanitation Operational Procedures (SSOP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to improve cleanliness and sanitation. The participants, primarily mothers from West Tulabolo Village, produced local food items from sorghum seeds, such as sorghum drinks, sorba, onde-onde, and fried bananas. While sorghum seeds were the main ingredient for sorghum drinks and sorba, sorghum flour was used for onde-onde and fried bananas. The program concluded with an evaluation of participants' acceptance of the products, showing high ratings of very much liked for nearly all aspects, including taste, texture, aroma, and color. This training was intended to guide the community in exploring entrepreneurial opportunities and fostering the development of village-based small and medium enterprises (UKM Desa).

Abstract

Sorghum is an extraordinary commodity because of its waste-free characteristics. Almost all parts of the plant can be used, including leaves, fruit stems, and wilt. Unfortunately, the personnel at the East Suwawa BPP partners and the farmers they support still lack experience in sorghum farming, especially in profit analysis. This is an obstacle in spreading sorghum as an agricultural potential, because extension workers have difficulty providing farmers with an understanding of the benefits of sorghum farming. Therefore, knowledge is needed in carrying out farming analysis, as well as organizing human resources in farmer groups so that they can produce maximum quality and quantity. Through this knowledge and ability, it is hoped that partners can further optimize the dissemination of sorghum farming to the farmers they support so that they can produce sustainably. The methods used in this service activity are training and mentoring. For training activities, farming business analysis and farmer group management were carried out for one day, where the implementing team facilitated training to partners, namely BPP East Suwawa. After the training activities, students in the implementing team provided regular assistance for two weeks to optimize the results obtained in the training. The results of the activity showed that the activity participants were very enthusiastic during the mentoring activity, and gave positive responses, so that activities like this could be routine, especially in assisting with sorghum farming analysis.       Keywords: farming analysis; sorghum; training; mentoring
