Abstract

Besarnya pasokan ikan hias yang masuk ke kota Tapanuli tengah menunjukkan bahwa minat masyarakat terhadap ikan hias di kota Tapanuli tengah cukup tinggi, namun masih sedikit yang menjalankan usaha dibidang ikan hias ini, mulai dari pembudidaya, penjualan ikan hias. Oleh karena itu usaha ikan hias apapun jenisnya masih menjadi suatu bisnis yang memiliki peluang sangat menjanjikan untuk dilakukan. Tujuan sosialisasi dalam pembuatan akuarium ini adalah untuk mengembangkan kegiatan usaha masyarakat serta UMKM yang ada agar lebih mandiri secara ekonomi dan meningkatkan softskill dan hardskiil tentang bisnis ikan hias serta dalam pembuatan aquarium. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan melakukan kegiatan pelatihan langsung dengan demonstrasi tata cara serta tahapan-tahapan pembuatan akuarium kepada UMKM dan masyarakat. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini diharapkan nantinya adalah UKM atau kelompok masyarakat memahami tentang kegiatan usaha ikan hias dalam hal ini pembuatan akuarium sebagai sebuah usaha yang dapat mengisi pasar lokal yang belum banyak terisi dan dapat bersaing dalam bisnis pembuatan akuarium. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini diharapkan nantinya terjadi peningkatan keterampilan pembuatan akuarium skala komersial untuk pasar lokal, sehingga semua masyarakat tersebut dapat menjual produksi akuarium dan bahkan dapat menjual ikan hias serta juga dapat menjual akuarium beserta isinya sehingga pendapatan dari masyarakat tersebut meningkat.

Abstract

Tapanuli tengah memiliki ikan endemik yang bernilai tinggi dan terancam punah yang disebut dengan ikan Batak (Neolissochilus thienemanni). Di masyarakat Batak ikan ini mempunyai nilai sakral untuk kegiatan acara adat. Dengan meningkatnya permintaan ikan batak, mengakibatkan berkurangnya jumlah populasi ikan batak di habitat aslinya. Di alam induk ikan batak yang matang gonad dengan kualitas telur yang baik sudah sulit didapatkan akibat rusaknya habitat perkembangbiakan dan lingkungan ikan batak itu sendiri. Hal ini disebabkan karena adanya kegiatan pertambangan, penebangan hutan, limbah industri, pencemaran, intensitas pemanfaatan yang cukup tinggi, penangkapan yang tidak ramah lingkungan, kegiatan antropogenik, penggundulan hutan dan alih fungsi lahan, sementara pasokan benih ikan batak masih mengandalkan hasil pemijahan di alam. Tujuan PkM ini adalah melatih masyarakat tentang cara memijahkan ikan batak secara buatan agar dapat memproduksi benih ikan batak secara massal dan berkesinambungan sekaligus mendapatkan benih yang berkualitas, melatih dan memberi keterampilan kepada masyarakat tentang bagaimana cara pemijahan ikan batak secara artificial spawning (buatan) sebagai salah satu upaya konservasi sumberdaya ikan di kabupaten tapanuli Tengah. Adapun tujuan prioritas pengabdian untuk meningkatkan keterampilan, pendapatan dan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Berdasarkan kegiatan Pemberdayaan Berbasis Masyarakat yang sudah dilakukan berupa sosialisasi pelatihan dan pendampingan memberikan dampak yang positif dengan meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat dibidang pemijahan ikan batak secara artificial spawning (buatan).

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) has become a national flagship commodity from the aquaculture sector, because it has wide market opportunities, both domestically and abroad. Vannamei shrimp cultivation in Central Tapanuli Regency has begun to be carried out and has developed quite rapidly since the last few years. The purpose of the study is to determine the influence of water quality on the growth of vannamei shrimp in the shrimp pond industry of PT. Berkat Kasih Karunia in Central Tapanuli Regency, analyzed environmental factors that affect the survival rate (SR) of vannamei shrimp and to identify water quality parameters that affect the growth of vannamei shrimp in shrimp ponds of PT. Berkat Kasih Karunia. The method used in this study is a descriptive method. A number of the parameters measured include absolute weight growth and absolute length, survival (SR), water quality in the form of temperature, pH, DO, brightness and salinity. The results showed thant for the growth in weight ranging from 8,0 – 8,3 g and in length between 6,5 – 6,8 cm, respectively, in which considered optimal under the condition of maintained water quality. The water quality ranged as foloow: temperature 28,9–29,0 0C, pH 7,5-7,7, dissolved oxygen (DO) 5,8-6,1 (mg/l), brightness 38,4-39,0 cm, and salinity 19,5-20,0 ppt. This range of parameters supported the physiological activity of the shrimp, and the absolute growth of vannamei shrimp during the study. The survival rate (SR) of vannamei shrimp of 98% indicates the success of pond water quality management. It also indicates that the pond environment is free from the excessive environmental stress, such as extreme salinity, low oxygen, or phatogenic attack.

Abstract

Papaya leaf extract is known to have various benefits, including the papain enzyme which can function as a protein digester and improve the fish's immune system. The use of natural ingredients such as papaya leaf extract can also reduce dependence on synthetic chemicals, making it safer for human health and the environment. Based on the explanation above, it is necessary to conduct research on the effect of giving different doses of papaya leaf extract on the specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio and also the water quality of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) seeds. This research was conducted in June - August 2024 at the Fisheries Production Laboratory of the Matauli Fisheries and Marine College. The effect of adding papaya leaf extract to feed with different doses on the specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio and water quality of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) seeds produced the best results. The best treatment for Specific Growth Rate was in the P1 treatment of 1.405%, Feed Conversion Ratio of 1.411, and water quality in the form of temperature and pH which were in optimal conditions. This dose can be an alternative as a natural ingredient that has benefits to support an environmentally friendly and sustainable catfish (Clarias gariepinus) seed cultivation system.

Abstract

The application of local probiotics in commercial feed not only contributes to aquaculture efficiency but also opens up opportunities for utilizing inexpensive and easily accessible local materials as alternative environmentally friendly feed additives. Biologically, probiotics work by enhancing the balance of intestinal microflora, improving nutrient absorption, and strengthening the fish's immune system against environmental stress and pathogenic infections. Through this mechanism, the inclusion of local probiotics in feed can be an effective approach to naturally and sustainably enhance the physiological performance of fish fry. This study aimed to determine the effect of adding locally-sourced probiotics to commercial feed on the growth and survival of Siamese Pangasius (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) fry. The probiotics were formulated using local ingredients such as banana fronds, turmeric, fine rice bran, yeast, molasses, and Yakult, and were applied to commercial feed at various concentrations. The research was conducted experimentally using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications: P0 (control, no probiotics), P1 (10 mL probiotics/kg feed), P2 (20 mL/kg feed), and P3 (30 mL/kg feed). Observed parameters included growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and survival rate (SR). The results showed that treatment P2 yielded the best outcomes, with the highest growth rate, lowest FCR, and significantly higher survival rate compared to the control. In conclusion, enrichment of commercial feed with local probiotics at a dosage of 20 mL/kg significantly improved the growth performance and survival of Siamese Pangasius fry (p<0.05).

Abstract

The abundance of barracuda fish catches that has not been optimally utilized, along with the low added value gained by the community, is a major issue faced by the people of Pasar Sorkam. Most of the fish are sold fresh without any processing, resulting in low selling prices and minimal impact on the fishermen’s economic improvement. Therefore, strategic efforts are needed to shift the community’s mindset towards creatively and sustainably managing marine resources. This activity aims to improve community skills in processing marine products, create economically valuable products, expand home-based businesses, and introduce Sorkam’s local culinary identity through the production of fish sticks. The implementation methods include socialization, training, production assistance, as well as creative and innovative product packaging and marketing. A participatory approach was used to involve the community actively in each stage, supported by local partners acting as key facilitators. The results show increased knowledge and skills among the community in processing barracuda into attractive and high-value products. The community also began to understand the importance of packaging and marketing strategies to attract both local and tourist consumers. The barracuda fish sticks are now being marketed locally and have received positive consumer responses. Furthermore, this initiative has fostered an entrepreneurial spirit, especially among coastal women who were previously not involved in productive and independent economic activities based on local resource potential. This activity successfully enhanced the skills and economic independence of the Sorkam community through the development of barracuda fish sticks as a distinctive regional souvenir.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an innovative filtration system in bucket aquaponics “budikdamber” on the growth performance of water spinach (Ipomoea reptans) at three different locations: Tapian Nauli, STPK Matauli, and the Central Bureau of Statistics of Central Tapanuli (BPS). The experimental design was a randomized block design with two treatments (conventional and innovative filtration systems) and three replications. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, and daily growth rate. The results showed that using the innovative filtration system significantly enhanced plant growth compared to the conventional system. The innovative system recorded the highest plant height at Tapian Nauli, reaching 26.3±1.7 cm and 11.5±0.9 leaves per plant, with a daily growth rate of 3.62%. The innovative filtration system improved water quality through mechanical and biological filters that supported the conversion of ammonia into plant-available nitrate. Thus, this system can be an adaptive and sustainable technology to enhance budikdamber productivity, particularly in coastal and rural areas.

Abstract

The high cost of commercial feed remains the main obstacle in aquaculture, including Batak fish (Tor soro), as it accounts for more than 60% of total production expenses. Dependence on manufactured feed reduces farmers’ independence in managing their aquaculture practices. Meanwhile, Indigofera plants, which are abundant around local communities, contain high protein levels and have strong potential as an alternative feed ingredient. The utilization of Indigofera can serve as an innovative solution to support sustainable aquaculture. This program aims to enhance the independence of Batak fish farmers through the development of Indigofera-based independent feed, thereby reducing production costs and promoting more sustainable farming practices. The activities were implemented through training, demonstrations, and hands-on practice with local farmers. A participatory approach was employed to teach feed formulation, processing, and application of Indigofera-based feed, enabling the community to gain practical skills that can be applied independently. The program resulted in a significant improvement in the knowledge, skills, and self-reliance of Batak fish farmers. Participants were able to understand feed formulation and processing techniques and successfully produced independent feed that could be used sustainably. Economically, production costs were reduced by 25–30% compared to using commercial feed, without compromising the growth performance of Batak fish. In addition, farmers experienced increased motivation, self-confidence, and innovation in developing aquaculture based on local potential. The innovation of Indigofera-based independent feed has proven effective in lowering production costs, improving farmers’ independence, and supporting sustainable Batak fish aquaculture, while simultaneously strengthening local food security, the economic competitiveness of fishing communities, opportunities for business diversification in aquaculture, and encouraging the adoption of simple, environmentally friendly technologies oriented toward community economic independence, with positive impacts on improving collective welfare.

Abstract

Produksi hasil tangkapan Ikan Kembung yang di daratkan di PPN Sibolga Sumatera Utara rata-rata mengalami fluktuasi setiap tahunnya. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan analisis hasil tangkapan Ikan Kembung untuk mengontrol tingkat eksploitasi dan menciptakan kegiatan operasi penangkapan yang efektif agar pemanfaatan sumberdaya Ikan Kembung dapat berjalan secara optimal dan berkelanjutan. Metode Pengambilan Data menggunakan metode survey untuk mendapatkan gambaran yang dapat mewakili potensi dan tingkat pemanfaatan Ikan Kembung di PPN Sibolgan Sumatera Utara Analisis data yang digunakan meliputi produksi penangkapan Ikan Kembung, tangkap per satuan upaya, potensi lestari dan effort optimum, total allowble cath (TAC), tingkat pemanfaatan dan pengupayaan. Hasil tangkapan tertinggi terjadi pada tahun 2018 (213,94) ton. Hasil tangkapan ikan kembung terendah terjadi pada tahun 2021 (94,64} ton. Nilai CPUE tertinggi terjadi pada tahun 2020 (0,62) ton/trip. Nilai CPUE terendah terjadi pada tahun 2017 (0,43) ton/trip. Potensi lestari (MSY) sumberdaya Ikan kembung di perairan Sibolga dalam kurun waktu 6 tahun terakhir sebesar 337,59 dengan effort optimum sebesar 1410 trip. tingkat pemanfaatan rata-rata Ikan Kembung pada tahun 2017-2022 sebesar 43% berada pada kategori padat menengah (Moderatedly exploited) dan tingkat pengupayaan 20%. tingkat pemanfaatan Ikan Kembung (Rastrelliger sp.) telah mencapai kategori rentang berkembang.
