Abstract

A sedentary lifestyle among adolescents represents a major risk factor for the development of prediabetes and metabolic syndrome, which may affect long-term health outcomes. This condition highlights the importance of comprehensive and sustainable health promotion strategies. This study aims to systematically review health promotion strategies for preventing prediabetes associated with sedentary behavior among adolescents. This study employed a literature review method by analyzing ten selected primary research articles. The articles were screened based on topic relevance, study design, and their focus on health promotion and metabolic syndrome prevention. Data were analyzed using descriptive and thematic approaches to identify key intervention characteristics and outcomes. The findings indicate that multilevel interventions based on socio-ecological models are more effective than passive educational approaches. School-based, community-based, and digital health interventions were shown to increase physical activity levels and improve metabolic indicators. Moreover, habit-based interventions and targeted programs for high-risk groups demonstrated greater sustainability of health outcomes. In conclusion, integrative, adaptive, and multisectoral health promotion strategies are effective approaches for preventing prediabetes among adolescents with sedentary lifestyles.

Abstract

Drug abuse is a problem that must be taken seriously. Coping strategies are ways to deal with situations that are felt to be pressing and burden a person beyond their capabilities. The purpose of this study was to examine the coping strategies possessed by adolescent drug users who are currently undergoing a post-rehabilitation program at the National Narcotics Board (BNN) of East Java. The research method uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The sampling technique is similar to the purposive sampling technique. In-depth interviews were conducted with five adolescent informants who underwent post-rehabilitation programs at BNN East Java. The results obtained are the stress experienced by adolescents occurs because of family problems. These problems will be more complex in late adolescence, so that it requires coping strategies. The type of coping strategy used is an emotion focused coping strategy and problem focused coping. There is a need for early detection of stress and strengthening coping strategies for adolescent drug users to avoid relapse during rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation.

Abstract

Entering medical faculty is inherently demanding for first year student and the challenges are amplified for first-batch students in newly established faculties. These students must navigate academic, social, and professional adaptation simultaneously with evolving institution systems. Understanding their adaptation is essential to support success and resilience. This study aimed to explore the adaptation experiences of first-batch medical students in their first year in a new medical faculty. A descriptive phenomenological approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted in September 2024 with seven first-year students at the Faculty of Medicine, State University of Malang, established in 2023. Participants were selected using purposive sampling to ensure variation in characteristics and to achieve data saturation. Data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic analysis. Lecturer perspectives were also included to enhance triangulation. Thematic analysis showed five main themes: (1) student motivation, (2) perceived benefits, (3) challenges, and (4) adaptation strategies in the first year of medical education. These findings highlight that students experience a dual dynamic of vulnerability and opportunity during their transition. Their high motivation and close interaction with faculty provide opportunities for growth, resilience, and professional identity formation. Ensuring structured support and continuous faculty development is crucial for sustaining their success.
