Abstract

Background: Hernia Nucleus Pulposus (HNP) suffered by most mature and elderly women in Indonesia. One effect of this disease is physical mobility disorder due to recurring pain. The average of HNP patient depends on he chemical analgesic drugs, which are feared impacting other organs when it consumes every day. Pandan leave is one easy loacal indonesian plants to find and own the analgetic effect to help reduce the pain. Methods: This research was a Quasy Experimental Research using The non-equivalent group design. The sample of this research in amount of 30 people, using purposive sampling technique. In implementing this research, pre-test and post-test were conducted to measure the level of pain by the respondent before and after the treatment, then intervention of pandan leaves decoction were given 1x a day and given in 3 days in experimental group, then in control group to reduce the pain researcher train them the deep breath technique and imagery guidance. Analysis test comparing the average pain level using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney. Results: The result of this study obtained Pvalue of experimental group are : 0,001, and Pvalue of control group are: 0,18. Then man-whitney test were conducted and obtained pvalue: 0,0001. Conclusion: From the result of this research, it can be concluded that pandan leaves decoction is effective in reducing the pain of HNP patient. With this study, it is hoped that the nurses in community can socialize this pandan leaves decoction to HNP patient.

Abstract

Infectious illnesses continue to be a significant health issue around the globe, especially in underdeveloped nations like Indonesia. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that leads to widespread infections. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there were 9 million instances of typhoid fever in 2019, causing about 110,000 fatalities each year. Starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) is a type of plant that has secondary metabolites capable of affecting the immune system. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) fruit extract on the Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) value in mice infected with Salmonella typhimurium bacteria. The method used in this study was a true experimental study with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The collected data were evaluated using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, which included tests for homogeneity and normality, followed by additional analysis with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The findings of the research revealed that the extract from starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) consists of secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids. These secondary metabolites serve as immunomodulators and may influence Neutrophil-lymphocyte Reactivity (NLR), as shown by a statistical analysis (p<0.05) in mice infected with Salmonella typhimurium at doses of 700mg per kg of body weight.

Abstract

Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) is a chemical compound that can induce hemolytic anemia and oxidative stress in experimental animals. This study aims to perform liver tissue preparation and identify histopathological changes caused by PHZ induction. White rats (Rattus norvegicus) were divided into two groups: the control group given 0.9% saline and the treatment group induced with PHZ at a dose of 60 mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally for three consecutive days. Tissue preparation included fixation using 10% formalin, dehydration with graded alcohol (70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%), clearing using xylene, embedding in paraffin, tissue sectioning at 4-5 μm thickness with a microtome, and Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining. The results showed that PHZ induction caused a significant decrease in hemoglobin levels from 17-21 g/dL to 9.5-11.3 g/dL. Histological observation of liver tissue in PHZ-induced rats showed hepatocyte degeneration, cytoplasmic vacuolization, sinusoidal congestion, inflammatory cell infiltration, and cell necrosis. Spleen tissue showed red pulp hyperplasia and increased phagocytic activity. The tissue preparation successfully produced good histological preparations and allowed clear identification of histopathological changes. It can be concluded that phenylhydrazine is hepatotoxic and causes liver tissue damage through oxidative stress mechanisms.
