Abstract

Jernang (Daemonorops draco (Willd.) Blume) is a dioecious rattan species that produces resin on female individuals. The sex of jernang can only be identified from its inflorescences morphology. Sex survey was conducted in 5 populations of  jernang, 3 populations of which in the Bukit Tigapuluh National Park (BTNP), 1 population in the secondary forest in Jambi province and 1 population in the area of rubber plantation in Jambi province. Chi-Squared test on the sex ratio of  jernang showed that the ratio of the male to female in their natural habitat (Bengayoan and Tebo, 2 parts of the BTNP ecosystem and the Sepintun secondary forest) was distorted from the normal ratio of 1:1, while the cultivated jernang in Nunusan population (BTNPT) and Mandiangin were not significantly different from the normal sex ratio of 1:1. Female individuals from the cultivated population in the Mandiangin (planted in 1997) has an average number of stems per clump more on individual males (27.12) than females (26.92). The result of this study indicated that the D. draco has a good reproductive strategy and thus suitable for cultivation.

Abstract

Abstrak Pengembangan Lembar kerja siswa (LKS) penting dilakukan agar LKS sebagai salah satu bahan ajar dapat membiasakan siswa untuk berpikir logis, kritis dan sistematis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan LKS berbasis Problem Based Learning (PBL) pada mata pelajaran biologi SMA. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development), dengan menggunakan model Dick, Carey and Carey (analisis, desain, pengembangan dan evaluasi). Data proses pengembangan dihimpun menggunakan instrumen validasi ahli materi dan ahli desain pembelajaran, angket respons siswa dan guru. Hasil penilaian kelayakan dari ahli materi mendapatkan rata-rata nilai 80%, dan dari ahli desain rata-rata nilai 81% termasuk dalam kategori layak, dilihat dari aspek isi, aspek penyajian, aspek tampilan, aspek integrasi dan aspek bahasa. Respon siswa terhadap LKS yang dikembangkan sebesar 93% termasuk dalam kriteria sangat baik. Respon guru terhadap LKS yang dikembangkan sebesar 88,48% termasuk dalam kriteria sangat baik, sehingga hasil observasi menunjukkan siswa lebih aktif. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa LKS berbasis PBL memenuhi syarat kelayakan sebagai bahan ajar dan mampu melatih kemampuan siswa dalam berpikir kritis.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian dan pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk: 1) Menghasilkan modul elektronik yang memenuhi aspek kesesuaian isi dengan kurikulum, penyajian materi dan keterbacaan. 2) Menguji kelayakan modul elektronik dengan pendekatan saintifik yang dibuat dengan memperhatikan prinsip pengembangan module ekronik melalui validasi dan ujicoba pada siswa kelas VIII. 3) Mengetahui respon siswa terhadap module ektronikdengan pendekatan saintifik materi system peredaran darah pada manusia untuk kelas VIII SMP. 4) Mengetahui respon guru terhadap modul elektronik dengan pendekatan saintifik materi system peredaran darah pada manusia untuk kelas VIII SMP. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan R&D (research and development/penelitian dan pengembangan) dengan menggunakan model Lee dan Owen, dengan langkah 1) Analysis, 2) Design, 3) Development, 4) Implementation dan 5) Evaluation (ADDIE). Penelitian pengembangan ini menghasilkan modul elektronik menggunakan 3D PageFlip Professional pada materi sistem peredaran darah pada manusia, berdasarkan hasil validasi dan ujicoba memperoleh kriteria “sangat baik”. Maka dapat dikatakan bahwa modul elektronik yang dikembangkan sudah layak digunakan sebagai bahan ajar untuk siswa kelas VIII SMP.

Abstract

Traditional knowledge held by society contains character values ​​and scientific concepts, but such knowledge is frequently ignored. This study aims to develop Student Activity Sheets on plant taxonomy based on ethnoscience for high school, and analyze the response of teachers and students to the products developed. The model used in this study follows the ADDIE stages. The instrument used is a response questionnaire given to teachers and students. Product feasibility was analyzed through the results of material expert validation and design experts. The result of the study is in the form of student worksheet based on ethnoscience and character values ​​for plant taxonomy material. The results of product validation obtained a score of 74 ("very valid") for the material aspects while the design validation obtained a score of 46 ("valid"). The results of the small group and large group trials obtained percentages of 87,0% and 89,0% respectively; both were in the excellent category. The teacher's response obtained an average score of 44 which was also in the excellent category. Overall student worksheets based on ethnics and character values ​​in material plant taxonomy for high school students is feasible to be used in plant taxonomy learning in schools.

Abstract

Students still have difficulty understanding plant material because they tend to memorize and do not understand the meaning of the learned materials. This study aims to determine the application of discovery learning outside the classroom to improve critical thinking skills, learning styles, attitudes, scientific activities, and a better learning biology atmosphere. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) consists of three cycles involving students of class X MIA 2 SMAN 10 Batanghari. The instruments used were observation sheets, tests, questionnaires, and documentation. Critical thinking skills, critical thinking attitudes, and scientific activities, in general, are increasing from cycle I to cycle III. In the aspect of learning style, the number of students using visual learning styles and auditory learning styles has increased from cycle I to cycle III. In contrast, the number of students using kinesthetic learning styles has decreased over the cycles. The use of outdoor learning by utilizing urban forests and school gardens creates a comfortable and pleasant learning atmosphere. Students are motivated to be actively involved; they can maximize attitudes, scientific activities, critical thinking skills, and learning styles in the learning process.

Abstract

The 21st century technology and communication advancement require teachers to use learning media in Android-based smart books. This study aims to develop android-based biology learning media on mushroom material and test the feasibility of learning media developed according to media experts and material experts. The development employs used the ADDIE model by Lee & Owen, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and evaluation stages. The product was tested by students of class X SMK-SPP Negeri 3 Kerinci and assessed by media experts and content experts. Their responses were collected through a questionnaire. The results of this study are learning media in the form of an Android-based mushroom smart book made in the Android Package (.apk) format using Adobe Flash Professional CS6 software. The product is attractive, practical, and easily accessible. The product is suitable used in learning based on the media expert's assessment of 94% and the material expert's assessment of 96.3% (very feasible category)

Abstract

The pollination study on Daemonorops draco (Wildd.) Blume has been conducted based on structure of inflorescence, pollen and ovul ration, and apomixis. The result of study present that inflorescence structure of D. draco was androdioecious. Based on the color of the inflorescence on anther and crown indicated that D. draco pollination systems supported by insects (Trigona spp.). Pollination systems of D. draco based on ratio pollen ovule is xenogami (outcrossing). Apomixis process proved that fruit of D. draco can be formed without convergence of gametes/males and females which have the character of apomixis.

Abstract

Jernang rattan is one of the superior products of Jambi Province, besides palm and rubber, unlike most rattan which is used from the stem, but the used of jernang is the red resin. Jernang has the potential to be integrated in rubber plantations, so it is the right solution to improve the economy of rubber farmers in Liam Lestari Village Mandiangin District, Sarolangun District. The difficulty of getting old seeds as a source of seedlings is a major obstacle in jernang cultivation. In Liam Lestari village, one rubber farmer was found who had made clear integration, but the jernang fruit was often stolen, so that no old seeds were used for seedlings. Community Service Activities with a scheme of Regional Superior Product Development Program (PPPUD) is one solution to overcome the difficulties of seedlings in Mandiangin. The service method used is Participatory Rural Apraisal. PPPUD activities involve the Jernang Lestari farmer group. Based on the results of dedication by protecting the parent tree through fencing with bulian wood, it can overcome the problem of theft of jernang fruit.

Abstract

This aims of dedication community to uplifting entrepreneurial activities in order and increas the economy of the people in Pelayangan sub-district, Jambi city. The service location is the closest location to the tourist area “Gentala Arasy” bridge which is the icon of Jambi city. Through this service, it is hoped that the community at the service location can develop this activity to increase the collection of souvenirs sold at that location. The easy process of making and the availability of abundant leaves is one of the criteria for this dedication. This activity is carried out in two stages, namely counseling and practice. The extension stage is carried out by presenting participants about the manufacturing process and the equipment used. Practical stage is working directly into a product. The result is some of key chain products that are ready to be used as souvenirs. This activity provides knowledge to the community to generate interest in entrepreneurship. All stages of the event went well and was attended by all participants. This service activity will continue to be carried out in order to improve the community's economy and to support the vision of Jambi University as a World Class & Entrepreneurship University.

Abstract

Buah yang banyak dibudidayakan dan dikonsumsi masyarakat di Indonesia di antaranya adalah nanas (Ananas comosus L.) dan Jeruk Berastagi (Citrus X sinensis L.). Pemanfaatan kedua buah tersebut menghasilkan limbah berupa kulit buah. Limbah kulit buah nanas dan jeruk dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan eco enzyme dengan tambahan air dan molase. Beberapa fungsi dari eco enzyme yaitu sebagai cairan pembersih lantai, pembersih sayur dan buah, penangkal serangga serta penyubur tanaman. Selain itu juga berfungsi sebagai desinfektan karena megandung alkohol dan asam asetat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis produk eco enzyme dengan menggunakan parameter pH, TDS, kadar alkohol, warna, aroma, dan volume akhir. Bahan baku eco enzyme yang digunakan dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok yaitu 1) kulit nanas; 2) kulit jeruk; 3) campuran kulit nanas dan kulit jeruk. Metode yang digunakan yaitu mencampurkan air, kulit buah, dan molase dengan perbandingan 10:3:1 serta difermentasi selama 30, 60, dan 90 hari. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan nilai pH berkisar antara 3,4 sampai 3,7. Nilai TDS mengalami peningkatan pada seluruh bahan baku kecuali pada kelompok bahan baku kulit nanas. Kadar alkohol pada hasil produk eco enzyme tidak mengalami perubahan setelah dilakukan fermentasi. Eco enzyme yang dihasilkan berwarna coklat keruh pada fermentasi hari ke-90. Aroma yang dihasilkan yaitu beraroma khas fermentasi sesuai dengan konsetrasi bahan baku yang digunakan. Volume akhir dari hasil eco enzyme yang paling banyak adalah fermentasi hari ke-90.
