Abstract

This study analyzes the integration of sharia economics, green economy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in strengthening the sustainable development model in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis, this study found that sharia principles such as justice, balance, and benefit are aligned with the green economy agenda that emphasizes resource efficiency and environmental protection. The findings indicate that the implementation of Sharia financial instruments, such as productive zakat, green waqf, and green sukuk, significantly strengthens the funding of sustainable development projects and increases community participation. The coherence between the values of maqasid al-shariah and the SDGs targets makes sharia economics an effective ethical platform in the transition to low-carbon development. This study concludes that Sharia-green integration is a strategic approach to achieving inclusive and resilient development, although challenges remain, including limited regulations, inadequate institutional capacity, and limited public understanding. Recommendations for further research include the use of mixed methods, expanding the study to the halal industry sector, and developing an integrative theoretical framework based on maqasid and SDGs indicators.

Abstract

Since it was revealed more than 14 centuries ago, the Quran is considered the holy words of Islam, and is believed to provide psycho-spiritual therapeutic benefits to its readers and/or listeners. In this context, listening to the Quranic verses rhythmically, among Muslims is often seen as a form of murotal. However, compared to music, rhythm, book-novel reading and meditation therapies, information regarding the neural basis of the healing effects based on the Quran remains largely unexplored. In this narrative review, the researcher presents and discusses work related to neural, mental correlates that highlights some methodological issues and proposes recommendations to advance this emerging transdisciplinary research. Collectively, evidence suggests that listening to rhythmic-murotal Quranic verses activates similar brain regions and produces similar theraptic effects compared to music and rhythm therapy. Nonetheless, further research is needed with a more concise research design involving standardized neorology, brain, neuroscience and health experts to strengthen these findings, and pave the way for listening to Quranic verses as an effective psycho-spiritual therapy.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically analyze the integration between Islamic economics and environmental sustainability using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Data were collected from the Scopus database using keywords related to Islamic economics, Islamic finance, and sustainable development. A total of 22 selected articles were analyzed using a thematic approach to identify methodological patterns, research trends, and key findings. The results indicate that Islamic economics has a strong normative foundation in supporting sustainability through principles of justice, balance, and social welfare. However, a significant gap remains between theoretical concepts and empirical implementation, particularly in integrating environmental dimensions. In addition, Islamic social finance instruments such as zakat and waqf have not been optimally utilized in environmental sustainability contexts. The study also reveals methodological fragmentation and the absence of integrative models combining Islamic economics with green economy and circular economy approaches. Therefore, this study proposes an integrative framework that combines Islamic economic principles, sustainability paradigms, and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) as both a theoretical and practical contribution. This research is expected to provide a new direction for the development of Islamic economics as an alternative model for achieving sustainable development.
