Abstract

This research aims to explore the interpretation of the Qur'an through the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The Qur'an, as a sacred text in Islam, plays a crucial role in providing spiritual guidance and laws for Muslims. However, traditional understandings of the Qur'an often limit the expression of holistic and relevant meanings in the context of modern times. In an effort to attain a deeper and contextual understanding, this research proposes the use of CDA as an interpretative lens. CDA offers a critical and reflective framework for analyzing texts, revealing power structures, ideologies, and conflicts contained within. Through this approach, the research aims to open new interpretative spaces for the Qur'an, enabling a more comprehensive and relevant understanding of its messages. The research methodology involves analyzing selected Qur'anic texts using the CDA framework, focusing on the revelation of power structures, conflicts, and ideologies within the texts. It is expected that the results of this research will significantly contribute to the development of Islamic religious thought and strengthen the relevance of the Qur'an in the context of modern life.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji secara mendalam Tafsir al-Jami‘ li Aḥkam al-Qur’an karya Abu ‘Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Qurṭubi, sebuah karya monumental dalam tradisi tafsir hukum Islam. Kitab ini dikenal sebagai salah satu tafsir paling komprehensif yang memadukan pendekatan tahlili dengan analisis fiqh, linguistik, dan riwayat hadis. Fokus penelitian ini adalah menguraikan latar belakang kehidupan intelektual Al-Qurṭubi, tujuan penyusunan kitab, serta struktur dan karakteristik metodologinya. Berdasarkan kajian literatur, ditemukan bahwa Al-Qurṭubi hidup dalam konteks sosial-politik yang dinamis baik di Andalusia maupun Mesir, yang secara signifikan mempengaruhi corak penafsirannya. Sikapnya yang toleran terhadap perbedaan mazhab dan keberaniannya meninggalkan pendapat mazhab Malikiyah ketika berhadapan dengan dalil yang lebih kuat menunjukkan independensi metodologisnya sebagai seorang mufassir dan faqih. Penelitian ini juga mengungkap bahwa tujuan utama penulisan al-Jami‘ li Aḥkam al-Qur’an adalah memberikan kemudahan bagi umat Islam dalam memahami hukum-hukum syariat, terutama di tengah kompleksitas persoalan hukum pada masanya. Struktur kitab yang memuat pembahasan asbab al-nuzul, qira’at, i‘rab, perbedaan mazhab, dan argumentasi fiqh menunjukkan keluasan perspektif keilmuan Al-Qurṭubi. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa karya tersebut tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai tafsir hukum, tetapi juga sebagai ensiklopedia ilmu yang tetap relevan dalam studi tafsir dan hukum Islam kontemporer.

Abstract

  This study examines three primary methods of Quranic interpretation that have developed within the Islamic scholarly tradition: tafsir bi al-ma'tsur (based on narration), bi ar-ra'yi (based on ijtihad), and bi al-isyari (based on spiritual indications). Through a comparative analysis approach, this study identifies the characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and relevance of each method within the context of the development of contemporary tafsir. The results show that these three methods play complementary roles in providing a comprehensive understanding of the Quran. Tafsir bi al-ma'tsur ensures authenticity and purity of meaning through the transmission of authentic narrations; tafsir bi ar-ra'yi provides flexibility in responding to contemporary challenges through controlled rational reasoning; while tafsir bi al-isyari enriches the spiritual dimension of Quranic understanding. This study emphasizes that an integrative understanding of these three methods is essential for the development of a holistic tafsir science that is relevant to the dynamics of the times.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine more deeply to find out what types or sources or approaches to the interpretation of the Qur'an and what patterns or styles of interpretation exist in the tradition of interpretation of the Qur'an, this study uses library research, which means collecting data sources from books, commentaries, and journals that are relevant to the research subject, Interpretation of the Qur'an is a very complex field of science, with its characteristics focusing on the authenticity of sources, the correctness of methodology, and the relevance of context. From literal to symbolic, from scientific to legal, various types of interpretation show various perspectives. The pattern of interpretation shows the tendency of interpreters in studying the meaning of the Qur'an in various aspects, including legal, scientific, moral, spiritual, and social. Understanding thoroughly the characteristics, types, and patterns of interpretation is very important to avoid errors of interpretation and to maintain the depth of the meaning of the Qur'an according to the times.

Abstract

Environmental degradation caused by uncontrolled modernization and development poses a significant challenge for humanity today. Within this context, Islamic teachings -particularly the Qur’an- offer substantial potential in providing ethical and spiritual paradigms to preserve ecological balance. This research addresses the issue through an ecological humanism approach, integrating humanitarian values with environmental concern, analyzed via the contextual study of Makkiyah and Madaniyah verses in the Qur’an. The aim is to explore how the Qur’an holistically frames the human–nature relationship across two sociologically and historically distinct phases of revelation. A qualitative method is employed, combining thematic interpretation and contextual analysis. Primary data consists of Qur’anic verses addressing ecological issues such as climate change, biodiversity, pollution, water scarcity, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. The tafsir works Al-Misbah and Al-Jalalain serve as key references for contextual interpretation. Findings indicate that Makkiyah verses establish a theological foundation and foster transcendent ecological awareness, while Madaniyah verses emphasize practical applications through social ethics and environmental governance. Together, these two bodies of revelation create a synergistic paradigm of ecological humanism that remains relevant in addressing today’s environmental crises. In conclusion, the Qur’an is not merely a spiritual text but also a profound ethical framework for cultivating sustainable ecological awareness, affirming Islam’s role as a mercy to all creation (rahmatan lil ‘ālamīn).

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dialectic of Al-Jannah (heaven) and al-Nār (hell) in the Qur’an through the framework of Makkiyah and Madaniyyah theories, as well as to explore their implications and relevance for contemporary life. The focus lies in understanding how the Qur’an portrays heaven and hell as theological, moral, and social instruments that shape the character of believers. This research employs a library-based qualitative descriptive approach. The primary source is the Qur’an, while secondary sources include classical and modern exegesis such as Tafsir Al-Azhar by Hamka, Tafsir Al-Mishbah by Quraish Shihab, and Tafsir al-Baghawi. Data were analyzed using thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu’i) combined with socio-historical analysis to reveal the differences between Makkiyah and Madaniyyah verses concerning heaven and hell. The findings indicate that the dialectic of heaven and hell goes beyond eschatological imagery, serving as ethical guidance that emphasizes moral cultivation, social justice, and Islamic spirituality. In the Makkiyah phase, al-Jannah is portrayed as motivation for faith and resilience, while al-Nār functions as a moral warning. In the Madaniyyah phase, both concepts highlight legal, social, and communal responsibilities.
