Abstract

Mirah Chicken is a native chicken that has long been developed in Simalungun Regency and is thought to originate from the red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus). Currently, Mirah Chicken is used as a culinary ingredient known as Dayok Nabinatur. The population Mirah Chicken is yet known, but extensive Mirah Chicken breeders are still found in Simalungun Regency. To increase the population and make reproduction more efficient, mating with artificial insemination is applied to the Mirah Chicken population developed at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, UHN. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the quality of Mirah Chicken semen that will be used in the artificial insemination process. The basic population of Mirah Chickens was obtained from breeders in Simalungun Regency, where this basic population (G-D) has produced the first generation (G-1), which has reached a productive age of 8 months. The number of G-D and G-1 chickens used in this study was 5, respectively. The semen collection method was carried out by the massage method. The collected semen was evaluated macroscopically and microscopically in the livestock reproduction laboratory. The results of macroscopic evaluation showed that the volume of semen ranged from 0,14-0,18 ml/ejaculate, with a normal pH of 7,52-7,62, then the color of the semen was milky white, and the consistency was thick. The results of microscopic evaluation showed that the mass movement ranged from 1,4-2,0, and progress motility was around 72-74%. The sperm concentration parameter showed 8,12-10,47 x109 spermatozoa cells/ml with an abnormality of around 18,2-19,0%. The results of statistical analysis showed that there was no difference between G-D and G-1 for all parameters and it can be concluded that the quality of Mirah Chicken semen is classified as normal and can be used for artificial insemination.

Abstract

The livestock business in Kampung Kolam village is dominated by dairy goats. One reason many dairy goat farmers raise goats in the area is to facilitate the sale of fresh goat milk products due to the proximity of Medan City and the abundance of land available to grow forage for dairy goats. The Community Service program was well-implemented and ran smoothly, meeting the established goals and plans. The questionnaire assessment given to participants during the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) before the presentation was 36.69%, and after the presentation, the understanding of hygiene practices increased to 93.33%. The community service team created and motivated all livestock group members to use teat dipping and pasteurization equipment according to procedures, ensuring proper hygiene practices, improving goat milk production in their businesses, and increasing their income and sales.

Abstract

The community service aims to improve the understanding of grade 1 students of SDN 173635 Parparean II on the concept of addition through the use of diagram tables 1-9. This service activity was carried out by KPPM students of HKBP Nommensen University Medan in Parparean II village, Porsea District, Toba Regency. The methods used in this service are observation and evaluation test. The results of the service showed that the use of diagrammatic tables improved students understanding of the concept of addition. Students stated that the use of diagrammatic tables helped them understand the material better. By looking at the numbers in the 1-9 table, they can easily follow the addition steps and understand the relationship between numbers. This shows that the visual aids such as diagrammatic tables are very effective in supporting the teaching and learning process, especially for basic mathematics concepts that are often a challenge for students and the use of this learning method also creates a more interesting and interactive classroom atmosphere. Through this service can make an important contribution in improving the quality of education. The use of table diagrams can be expanded in various school, so that they can understand how to implement this method into the learning process in the future.

Abstract

This activity aims to encourage the growth of Maron BSM-1 Chicken before and after being given Vitamin B Complex. This activity was conducted by a team of student servants from HKBP Nommensen University Medan in Parparean II Village, Porsea District, Toba Regency. The methods used in this service activity include observation and experimentation. Based on the results of experiments in the field, the injection of Vitamin B Complex into Maron BSM-1 Chicken was carried out in 1 injection. The changes that occured within 1 week were that the appetite of the chicken livestock increased, the fat contained in the chicken livestock increased by about 3 ounces in 1 week and the health of he chicken livestock was better maintained. Thus, this method has proven effective in helping the community to increase the growth of Maron BSM-1 Chicken livestock and produce quality chicken meat. Through this research, the community can gain new knowledge in carrying out animal husbandry and this research can also be useful for other researchers as a reference carrying out community service.

Abstract

The community service program conducted by Group 3 of KPPM 48 students from Universitas HKBP Nommensen Medan focus on improving educational quality in Parparean II Village through teaching activities and tutoring sessions. This program implemented an interactive learning approach emphasizing discussion and active student participation, involving collaboration between students, SD 173635, and village officials. Activities took place over five days, from February 20, to February 25, 2025, targeting local children. Based on our evaluation, there was 25% increase in participants academic understanding, particularly in Mathematics. Betond academic improvement, the program succesfully fostered learning interest and strengthened social rrelationship between students and the community. This experience not only benefit the children receiving the program but also provided valuable learning for students in understanding educational challenges in rural areas. Active support from the village government and local community was key to the program’s success. It is hoped that this service activity can provide a sustainable impact on improving the quality of human resources in Parparean II Village anda motivating the learning spirit of the local younger generation.

Abstract

This community service activity is related to the role of students in setting an example for society in creating a clean and healthy environment. This activity is a platform that allows students to directly contribute to addressing issues in the community. This activity aims to raise public awareness about a clean and healthy environment. The methods used in this program include discussions and coordination with village officials, field activities such as community service, the creation of bamboo waste banks, and socialization. The result of this activity is that the students gained direct experience with social issues, implemented solutions, and increased the community's awareness of cleanliness and environmental health.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fish oil addition to semen extender on the quality of boar spermatozoa during 24-hour storage at 15°C. Fresh semen was collected from a healthy adult boar with initial motility ≥70% and diluted using a glukosa–sitrat–EDTA extender supplemented with 0 g (P0), 0.15 g (P1), 0.30 g (P2), and 0.45 g (P3) of fish oil per 1.000 mL. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and four replications. Parameters observed included motility, viability, abnormality, and semen pH after 24-hour storage. Analysis of variance showed that fish oil addition had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on sperm viability, but no significant effects (P>0.05) on motility, abnormality, or pH. The highest viability was found in P1 (93.25%) and the lowest in P3 (82.00%). Motility and abnormality improved at low doses but declined at higher concentrations. The pH values remained stable (6.7–7.2) across all treatments. In conclusion, adding a low dose of fish oil (0.15 g/1.000 mL) effectively maintained spermatozoa quality without altering extender chemistry, suggesting its potential as a natural additive for semen extender formulations in tropical artificial insemination programs.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the English vocabulary mastery of sixth-grade students at SDN 030342 Silalahi through a tree picture guessing game based on the surrounding school environment. The main problems faced by students include the perception that English is a difficult subject due to limited vocabulary, lack of self-confidence, and unvaried teaching methods. The method used in this activity is a community service approach with a contextual learning model based on visual media, involving observation of student activities and evaluation tests to measure understanding before and after the implementation, using a pilot program design conducted in one class consisting of 15 students with an intervention duration of approximately 60 minutes. The implementation of the method is carried out through several stages, namely the preparation stage by identifying student needs, the implementation stage through the delivery of vocabulary material using visual media such as laptops and projectors, and the main activity in the form of a tree picture guessing game based on objects found in the school environment. Furthermore, the evaluation stage is conducted through tests and observation of student participation and engagement during the learning process.

Abstract

Rendahnya penguasaan kosakata teknis Bahasa Inggris di bidang perikanan merupakan tantangan bagi siswa sekolah dasar di wilayah pesisir, termasuk di Desa Silalahi I, Kabupaten Dairi, yang memiliki potensi perikanan besar di perairan Danau Toba. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan menerapkan media interaktif guna meningkatkan pemahaman kosakata perikanan pada siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif melalui tiga tahapan utama, yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Program berlangsung selama 14 hari dengan enam sesi interaktif yang melibatkan 20–30 siswa kelas 3 hingga 6 Sekolah Dasar. Media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan meliputi buku saku bilingual, video animasi bertema perikanan, serta permainan peran (role-play) yang mengangkat potensi lokal Danau Toba. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman kosakata peserta, dibuktikan dengan kenaikan skor rata-rata dari 32,5 pada pretest menjadi 78,4 pada posttest. Selain meningkatkan keterampilan berbahasa asing, program ini juga berkontribusi terhadap penguatan literasi bilingual, kesadaran lingkungan, serta kesiapan siswa dalam menghadapi tantangan global di sektor perikanan. Keberhasilan ini mengindikasikan perlunya integrasi materi pembelajaran serupa ke dalam kurikulum lokal sebagai upaya strategis untuk menjamin keberlanjutan manfaat dan penguatan potensi sumber daya manusia di komunitas pesisir.
