Abstract

This study explores the implementation of human resource development (HRD) at MAN 1 Lamongan using a qualitative case study approach. The research aims to describe how both internal and external strategies are employed to enhance the competencies of educators and educational staff. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, comprising data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that MAN 1 Lamongan adopts a dual HRD strategy. Internally, the institution organizes regular training programs, workshops, and seminars at least twice a year. Externally, it facilitates staff participation in training activities provided by external organizations, such as MGMP forums and specialized professional courses. Each initiative is preceded by a needs analysis and followed by implementation and evaluation phases. The institution integrates both on-the-job and off-the-job training methods to improve pedagogical, managerial, and technical competencies. This comprehensive and continuous professional development approach is aligned with institutional goals and the evolving needs of educators. The study offers practical insights for Islamic educational institutions in designing effective HRD frameworks. However, as the research focuses on a single institution, its findings may have limited generalizability. Future studies involving multiple madrasas are recommended to validate and expand the applicability of the proposed model in diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance English grammar learning among high school students by utilizing songs as an educational tool. The study addresses the issues of low motivation and the challenges students face in learning English grammar, often attributed to monotonous and non-contextual teaching methods. Conducted at SMAN 1 Gerung, West Lombok Regency, this community service activity involved a team of lecturers from Bumigora University. The methodology comprised planning, implementation, and evaluation phases. During the implementation stage, learning materials were presented using PowerPoint, followed by creating song lyrics from the studied sentences. Evaluations revealed improved student understanding of basic grammar, a more enjoyable learning environment, and increased motivation. These findings suggest that incorporating songs into grammar instruction can enhance learning effectiveness and boost student motivation.

Abstract

The learning process in higher education often faces challenges such as low student motivation, as observed at Universitas Bumigora. This issue is exacerbated by the use of conventional teaching methods, which are less interactive, making students passive and disengaged. This community engagement project focuses on enhancing student learning motivation by implementing interactive quizzes using the Kahoot! application as part of learning evaluation. A qualitative approach was employed, involving observation, needs analysis, training on Kahoot! usage, and evaluation of its implementation. The mentoring process included workshops and direct application in lectures. The results revealed increased student participation and learning motivation, with students showing greater enthusiasm for their studies. Additionally, this initiative fostered awareness of the importance of integrating technology into academic processes. The transformation supports digital learning innovation and offers an alternative evaluation model to improve the quality of education in higher education settings.

Abstract

This study examines how instructional leadership enacted by madrasah principals strengthens students’ religious character in Islamic primary education. The erosion of religious values among students in the context of globalization and digital culture presents a critical challenge for Islamic schools. Prior studies indicate that character education initiatives often remain fragmented and insufficiently integrated into school culture. This research employed a qualitative case study design at MI Hamzanwadi NW Gelogor, utilizing semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data were analyzed through data condensation, display, and verification to ensure analytical rigor. The findings indicate that strengthening religious character begins with participatory program planning informed by contextual needs and collective teacher involvement. Exemplary leadership practices, particularly the principal’s direct engagement in daily religious activities, serve as a key mechanism for internalizing values. Continuous supervision and reflective evaluation further support program sustainability and teacher commitment. These interconnected practices foster a coherent religious school culture that embeds Islamic values into students’ everyday experiences. The study contributes theoretically by framing religious character education as an organizational process mediated by instructional leadership and offers practical guidance for strengthening leadership capacity in Islamic schools. Future research is recommended to employ comparative and longitudinal designs across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of students' critical thinking skills in mathematics learning in the 21st century, which requires students not only to understand concepts but also to be able to analyze and solve problems logically. However, teacher-centered learning results in low student engagement and underdevelopment of critical thinking skills. Therefore, innovative learning strategies are needed that encourage activeness and higher-order thinking processes. Inquiry Learning and Reciprocal Teaching are two potential approaches, where Inquiry Learning emphasizes the process of discovery through investigation, while Reciprocal Teaching develops interaction and understanding through activities of summarizing, asking questions, and clarifying. The integration of these two strategies is expected to create more active and meaningful learning and improve students' critical thinking skills. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of these two approaches in mathematics learning. The research employed a quasi-experimental approach using The Matching Only Post-test Only Group Design. The population consisted of eighth-grade students of MTs Nurul Jannah NW Ampenan. Class VIII A (20 students) was assigned to the Inquiry Learning group, while Class VIII B (16 students) received Reciprocal Teaching. Data were collected using an essay-type critical thinking test validated by experts. Analysis techniques included normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test at a 5% significance level. The findings reveal that both strategies significantly influence students’ critical thinking skills. Additionally, Inquiry Learning demonstrates a greater effect compared to Reciprocal Teaching, as indicated by higher mean scores and significant t-test results. The study highlights the importance of implementing innovative learning strategies to enhance students' critical thinking skills in mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of a 21st-century competency-based adaptive curriculum from the perspective of Islamic education management in Islamic higher education. Rapid technological developments and global educational transformations require educational institutions, including Islamic schools, to design adaptive, contextual, and competency-oriented curricula. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a single case study design. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis refers to the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which consists of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that understanding of the adaptive curriculum concept among stakeholders is still partial and uneven. The implementation of the adaptive curriculum has not been systematically institutionalized and largely relies on individual teacher initiatives. The strongest supporting factors are innovative school leadership, teacher commitment, and foundation support, while major obstacles include limited digital infrastructure, inadequate teacher training, and cultural barriers related to students' reluctance to express critical opinions. This study also formulates an Adaptive Curriculum Management Model consisting of four cycle phases: needs analysis, 4C-based planning, responsive implementation, and cycle evaluation. This research provides theoretical and practical contributions to the development of adaptive curriculum management in Islamic educational institutions, especially private madrasas that face the challenges of 21st century education.
