Abstract

As one of importance language, English is included as compulsory subject for junior and senior high school in Indonesia. It aimed to increase the ability of students in communicating using international language. However, in some areas or schools, some teachers face difficulties in teaching English, one of them was teachers in SMPN 1 Kayangan Lombok Utara. This study aimed at investigating the difficulties that were faced by English teachers in SMNPN 1 Kayangan Lombok Utara. This study belonged to qualitative study and purposive sampling was used in taking the sample of the study. In depth interview was used in collecting the data. There were two teachers to be interviewed in this study. The result from the data indicated that there were several difficulties that were faced by teachers in this school namely students’ low of vocabulary mastery, students low motivation, lack of school facilities and conventional method in teaching. From those difficulties, low vocabulary mastery became the main challenge for teachers in teaching English in SMPN 1 Kayangan Lombok Utara.

Abstract

The phenomenon that happens in communication, especially in terms of speech acts often becomes an issue in society. The function of a language or utterance that does not only contain literal meaning but has a certain intended meaning often causes misunderstanding in communication. Since the development of technology, speech acts also can be found in a movie. Since, in the movie, the producer sometimes raises a story of a certain social life, Di Timur Matahari's movie was chosen to be the object of the study. This movie raised the culture of north Indonesia (Papua). A descriptive qualitative method was applied in this study. From collected data, some types of illocutionary acts were found. Those were expressive, assertive, and directive. The most dominant type of illocutionary acts found in the utterance was directives. The result of this study is essential because it shows what type of illocutionary act that was mostly used in the movie.

Abstract

English skill is an essential skill to be mastered by students nowadays. Since its importance, students need to focus on developing this skill as early as they can. Nevertheless, not all institutions could provide sufficient material and skill to be taught in the class. Based on some observations, students in panti asuhan Nurul Jannah still have some mistakes in speaking using the English language. Thus, efficient English training was needed by students in panti asuhan Nurul Jannah. Lecturers from Bumigora university who were experts in English did community service in panti asuhan Nurul Jannah. This aimed to increase students' ability in English and improve some mistakes and language errors that were still done by the students. This community service was done by applying several methods such as speech, discussion, etc. After several meetings of the training, students in this orphanage showed positive attitude toward the training and most of the students could improve their ability in English.

Abstract

In a world increasingly dominated by digital media, the ability to communicate effectively is an essential skill for personal and professional success. This study explores the transformative role of visual media in fostering children’s communication abilities through the innovative KidsSpeak platform. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research examines how KidsSpeak leverages vibrant illustrations, animated narratives, and interactive tools to enhance children’s cognitive, linguistic, and social development. The findings reveal that visual media captivates young minds, simplifies complex concepts, and supports information retention, making it an effective tool for improving comprehension. Through storytelling and role-playing, KidsSpeak fosters creativity, self-expression, and confidence, enabling children to articulate their thoughts and emotions effectively. The platform also emphasizes the development of critical communication skills through real-world simulations and engaging activities, preparing children for academic success and positive interpersonal relationships. A unique aspect of KidsSpeak is its emphasis on social advocacy, empowering children to use storytelling as a medium to address societal challenges such as environmental conservation and social justice. By providing a safe, supportive environment, KidsSpeak nurtures empathy, confidence, and a sense of agency in young communicators, equipping them to make meaningful contributions to their communities. This study highlights the potential of educational media to shape young minds and underscores the importance of integrating visual storytelling into learning experiences. The findings advocate for expanding programs like KidsSpeak to diverse cultural and linguistic contexts to further enhance their impact and inclusivity, fostering a generation of confident, creative, and socially responsible communicators.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of stimulating creativity in children aged 5-6 years as a foundation for cognitive and social emotional development. The purpose of the study was to describe the application of puzzle games to increase the creativity of children aged 5-6 years at ABA Dulang Kindergarten, Enrekang Regency, describe changes in children's creativity before and after treatment, and determine the effect of puzzle games on increasing children's creativity. The method used was Quasi Experimental with a Non-Equivalent Control Group design, involving 25 children divided into experimental and control groups. Data collection was carried out through observation, pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that the application of puzzle games provided an interactive and fun learning experience, significantly increasing children's creativity. Children's creativity in the experimental group increased from low to very good after being given puzzle games, while the control group only showed minimal improvement. Statistical test analysis confirmed the positive and significant effect of puzzle games on increasing the creativity of children aged 5-6 years at ABA Dulang Kindergarten. In conclusion, puzzle games are effective as a learning medium to stimulate early childhood creativity. It is recommended that teachers and parents integrate puzzle games as a learning method to optimize children's creativity development.

Abstract

Dinamika kehidupan sosial yang semakin kompleks, penurunan kualitas komunikasi etis pada anak usia dini semakin menjadi sorotan. Fenomena ini tidak sekadar mencerminkan perubahan cara anak berinteraksi, tetapi juga menunjukkan adanya kebutuhan mendesak untuk menanamkan nilai-nilai komunikasi yang santun, empatik, dan saling menghargai. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan kesadaran etika berkomunikasi pada siswa Taman Kanak-Kanak Hindu Cempaka melalui program kampanye sosial yang dirancang secara kolaboratif. Menggunakan metode Participatory Action Research (PAR), kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam empat tahap yakni perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Guru dan pihak sekolah dilibatkan secara aktif sejak awal, sementara siswa dilibatkan melalui aktivitas yang sesuai dengan tahap perkembangannya, seperti bermain peran dan bercerita. Secara konseptual, kampanye sosial diposisikan bukan sekadar alat penyuluhan, tetapi sebagai media pembelajaran transformatif yang membentuk pemahaman dan perilaku secara simultan. Hasil pelaksanaan menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan partisipasi aktif siswa dalam berkomunikasi secara positif serta penguatan peran guru dalam mendampingi proses pembelajaran. Ketercapaian kegiatan pengabdian ini tidak hanya tampak dari feedback siswa selama kegiatan, tetapi juga bentuk komitmen keberlanjutan yang ditunjukkan oleh pihak sekolah melalui adopsi materi dan metode pengabdian. Kegiatan pengabdian ini tidak hanya memberikan dampak terhadap etika komunikasi, namun juga berkontribusi terhadap penguatan ekosistem pendidikan karakter di lingkungan sekolah sejak usia dini.

Abstract

Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak membutuhkan pendekatan yang menarik, sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan, dan mendukung pemerolehan bahasa secara alami. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru English for Young Learners (EYL) melalui rangkaian pelatihan terstruktur yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris abad ke-21 dan pendidikan anak usia dini di sekolah Al Fadhil. Program ini dilaksanakan melalui beberapa tahap, termasuk analisis kebutuhan, pengembangan materi, pengajaran dasar Bahasa Inggris, pengenalan metode mengajar untuk anak-anak, serta pendampingan dalam penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis tema. Pelatihan menggunakan kombinasi presentasi, diskusi, dan praktik langsung untuk memastikan para guru memperoleh pengetahuan tentang praktik dan pedagogi pengajaran EYL. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kompetensi linguistik dan pedagogis, yang tercermin dari partisipasi aktif guru, penerapan langsung ungkapan kelas berbahasa Inggris, serta meningkatnya kreativitas dalam penggunaan media pembelajaran. Selain itu, umpan balik positif dari seluruh peserta dan dukungan kuat dari sekolah menunjukkan bahwa program ini relevan, efektif, dan berpotensi dilanjutkan sebagai bagian dari pengembangan profesional berkelanjutan.
