Abstract

Para siswa seharusnya memiliki kemampuan berbicara dalam Bahasa inggris sebagai kemampuan yang dapat digunakan nantinya baik di sekolah maupun di masyarakat banyak, mengingat Bahasa inggris merupakan Bahasa internasioanl. Namun ada beberapa hambatan yang menjadikan para siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam melakukan kemampuan berbicara seperti mereka tidak pernah berlatih, tidak percaya diri, takut membuat kesalahan dan tidak memiliki ide dalam menyampaikan apa yang akan dibicarakan. Salah satu faktor yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan belajar para siswa adalah dengan memberikan motovasi. Ada banyak cara yang dapat digunakan untuk memotivasi pembelajaran siswa. Salah satunya dengan memberikan teknik, strategi ataupun pendekatan untuk menarik perhatian siswa. Selain itu dengan memberikan motivasi akan membantu para siswa untuk konsentrasi dalam melakukan aktivitas belajar. Adapun dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini, untuk membuat suasana pembelajaran yang kondusif dan menyenangkan serta membuat siswa termotivasi, penulis menerapkan sebuah strategi yaitu dengan menggunakan strategi dalam pembelajaran yang menyenangkan yaitu dengan menggunakan strategi fishbowl. Metode Fish Bowl merupakan salah satu metode diskusi kelompok. Pelaksanaan PKM di SMP Negeri 7 Padangsidimpuan terlaksana dengan lancar dan mendapatkan hasil yang baik. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh siswa siswi SMP Negeri 7 Padangsidimpuan dan dibantu beberapa orang guru. Seluruh peserta semangat dan antusias ketika diminta untuk melaksankan pembeljaran dengan strategi fishbowl. Selain itu beberapa guru juga akan melakukan strategi fishbowl untuk pembelajaran kedepannya nanti.

Abstract

Online learning is one of the big challenges that must be done in this Era. However many people less access and do not use the appropriate media to do it. Besides, they also lack of the application usage. However, Social Media is more popular today. Many people spend their time on social media for communicating, entertaining, selling, and etc. Therefore, using social media as the tool to do the communication in learning is possible to do. One of the popular social media that is used by the students today is Instagram, which has 70 million users in Indonesia. Thus, this research is aimed to find out the effectiveness of using Instagram in online learning. It is specified to the 3rd Semester students of English Department of IAIN Padangsidimpuan. It investigated the participation and feedback of students in learning process while using Instagram as the platform in learning activity. This research used descriptive qualitative research to analyse the students’ perception in implementing Instagram in learning process. The results show that Instagram is effective to be used as the tool for the students’ interaction especially in discussion which is related to the task activity and explanation. Besides, the students felt easier to use this application because it has been used by almost students of the 3rd semester of English Department of IAIN Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

Reliable human resources, with strong national development potential, are students who graduated from Vocational Schools. Indirectly, SMK graduates make a positive contribution in the industrial world. The national development in question must be able to meet the demands for quality and relevance to the world of work in his time so that vocational students have a competitive advantage and can survive in the face of national global competition in the current industrial era 5.0. This research focuses on reviewing various literature regarding the continuing professional development of vocational teachers. The research was conducted in June 2019 at SMK N 1 Tourism, Kab. Siak, Riau Province. The sample in this study was carried out using a purposive random sampling technique. Determining the sample of respondents in this study, namely teachers (main data source) as research subjects, all subject teachers at SMK N 1 Tourism were selected. The results obtained in this study, namely a review of the literature review on continuing professional development for vocational teachers, can be formulated five dimensions which become the theoretical structure of teacher continuing professional development tools, namely: (1) learning development and assessment, (2) education and training according to the field, (3) carry out scientific publications, (4) have innovative work publications, (5) carry out reflections, and collaborations.Keywords: Assessment, Teachers, SMK

Abstract

TOEFL sebagai tes Bahasa inggris yang diperuntukkan untuk mengukur kemampuan seseorang dalam bahasa Inggris, terutama bagi mereka yang bukan penutur asli bahasa Inggris mendorong pelajar untuk belajar lebih jauh salah satunya adalah dengan melakukan pembeljaran mandiri. Self-directed ataupun pembelajaran mandiri adalah proses pembelajaran di mana individu mengambil inisiatif untuk merencanakan, melaksanakan, dan mengevaluasi pembelajaran mereka sendiri. Penenlitian ini dilakasanakan secara quantitative dan kualitatif. Secara kuantitaif dilakukan dengan memberikan Angket kepada para pelajar yang akan mengikuti test TOEFL sebanyak 30 orang dan sedang mengikuti kelas pelatihan TOEFL. Secara kualitatif adalah dengan mengadakan  wawancara terhadap 6 orang partisipan yang diambil dari 3 pelajar dengan motivasi tinggi dan 3 orang pelajar dengan motivasi rendah. Data wawancara dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Tematik (Maguire & Delahunt, 2017) yang dilakukan melalui anotasi pada setiap transkrip wawancara dengan tema-tema potensial. Dari hasil angket dan wawancara yang diberikan kepada para siswa dapat disimpulkan bahwa pelajar yang memiliki motivasi tinggi cenderung akan melakukan pembelajaran secara mandiri daripada siswa dengan motivasi rendah. Hal ini dikarenakan siswa dengan motivasi tinggi biasanya telah menetapkan tujuan dan target yang akan dicapai sehingga mereka terkadang tidak merasa puas dengan apa yang hanya mereka dapatkan dari kelas pelatihan TOEFL.

Abstract

This research relates to how the English materials are developed for fashion students of SMK based on Problem Based Learning Approach. This research aims to develop the English materials by applied the ESP based on need analysis of the students. It is done in order to fulfill the needs of fashion students of SMK Negeri 6 PadangResearch and development (R&D) by Borg and Gall, which comprises ten research processes, is the methodology used in this article. Pre-development, development, validation, revision, and product testing are the five primary cycles in which those phases are altered in this study. Questionnaires and document analysis are the methods used to acquire data. The students, the English instructor, the head of the fashion department, the fashion students' alumni, the education and ESP specialist, and the current syllabus and materials are the sources of the data. Students' grades increase as a result of testing the content. In the pre-test, the students' average score was 52.6. Meanwhile, the average student post test score was 64.8. There were 20 students who passed the standard minimum whereas previously only 8 students passed the standard minimum. After being given a post-test, several students were also asked for their comments about the new reading material. Everyone agreed and said that this new reading material was more interesting and suited to students’ needs. It means that using PBL approach and need analysis in developing English material can increase the students’ achievement in learning English.

Abstract

This research tried to find out the realization of repetition as one of component of taxonomic relation in the Al-Quran. Then, it was analyzed by using logogenesis partern to find out the text density. This study had been conducted by using qualitative research. The data consist of clauses of Taxonomic Relation that limited to repetition type. The source of the data was taken from surah Al Baqarah in English Quran Translation by Yusuf Ali. The result of study showed the realization of taxonomic relation were realized in logogenetic pattern. From ten most frequent lexicals of repetition, it had found that in surah Al Baqarah, medium is the most dominant. It happened because there were some clausea that contain about certain lexical has function to track the discussion in the previous clause as the warning, command and prohibition. Therefore it was concluded that repetition that realized in Surah Al Baqarah make the text in the level moderate until easy to be understood by reader because the frequency of repetition is dense.

Abstract

English business negotiation requires not only grammatical accuracy but also pragmatic competence, as strategies such as directness, politeness, mitigation, and hedging determine how offers and requests are received. Current pedagogical practices, which rely on role-plays and simulations, often provide only general evaluations and lack detailed feedback on pragmatic strategies. This study proposes a rule-based approach to classify pragmatic strategies in student negotiation transcripts. Rules were formulated using both pragmatic theory and empirical observation, then represented in First-Order Logic (FOL) for computational implementation. The dataset consisted of 1,200 utterances from simulated negotiations, which were manually annotated by three experts with high inter-annotator agreement (κ = 0.82). The rule-based system classified each utterance deterministically into one of the four strategies based on lexical and grammatical markers. Results show that directness dominated (51.7%), followed by politeness (30.8%), while mitigation (11.7%) and hedging (5.8%) were used less frequently. System evaluation against manual annotation yielded strong performance, with a macro F1-score of 0.81. While effective in detecting directness and politeness, the system was less optimal for mitigation and hedging due to their implicit variability. These findings suggest that students favor straightforward expressions and underuse more nuanced strategies. The study concludes that pragmatic instruction should place greater emphasis on mitigation and hedging, while the rule-based system can serve as an automatic feedback tool to support pragmatic learning in English for Business Negotiation

Abstract

Learners or students can no longer control the use of learning media, because indeed the demands of the world today, all people must actively take advantage of scientific facilities that are all easy to obtain in the current era of digitalization 5.0. This makes various learning sciences more and more needed from day to day. The purpose of writing this research is to find out the application of media use in learning Indonesian Food Subjects in the digitalization 5.0 era. The writing method used is a qualitative literature review research method in which the author identifies writing, data, materials with reference to Indonesian food journals and books. With the existence of learning media for the Indonesian Food subject, it is hoped that all students in the culinary field and the professional community can continue to take advantage of information opportunities that are widespread and easily accessible. In particular, continuing to preserve Indonesian culinary specialties which also compete with modern culinary delights for the popularity of local people's food in this digitalization era. The results of this study support the internationalization of the development of the 5.0 digitalization era in the implementation of making learning media for Indonesian Food subjects. There are many indicators of innovation, social environment and internationalization that can influence the development of Indonesian food learning, so that it can be accepted by the wider community and students in general.

Abstract

This paper focused on the textual meta-functions to demonstrate the ways in which a news story text and an editorial to find out the percentages of Process and Circumstance in the news story text and editorial text, what is the dominant type of process used, and why new story item is different from editorial item. For purposes of demonstration, it has been chosen two different texts, a news story text and an editorial piece from The Jakarta Post. We use these to analyze the ways in which a reporter and an editorialist make choices in the meta-function component through process and circumstance. Based on the analysis above, the dominant type of process used in the NST (News Story Text) is material with the number of percentage is 33 %, while in ET (Editorial Text) is material process with the number of percentage is 38%. Meanwhile, the dominant type of circumstance used in the NST (News Story Text) is contingency with the number of percentage is 45.5%, while in ET (Editorial Text) is  location  with the number of percentage is 54%.

Abstract

Men and women typically communicate closely with one another. As a result, dating relationship notions are common in society, particularly among young adults. Both men and women will always have communication goals while they are in a relationship. They communicate with each other via social media in addition to in-person interactions. WhatsApp is one of the most used social media platforms in today's world. The purpose of this study was to determine whether men or women frequently utilize indirect speech when texting their partners on WhatsApp. Three couples that communicate via WhatsApp are the subjects of this study. They are between the ages of 20 and 25. Within two weeks, the data was gathered by recording their message history. According to Clark (1977), the data was analyzed by classifying it into direct and indirect speech acts. It was discovered that women are more likely than men to use indirect speech acts. Ten indirect speech acts were performed by the females of three couples, whereas only three were delivered by the man, according to three conversation histories.
