Abstract

Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the regions that contributes the least to global climate changes, however, it is one of the most vulnerable regions to affected by the climate change and extreme weather. In addition to climate factors, the low level of economic and technological development in Sub-Saharan Africa is also one of the factors that this country is hit by a food and human crisis. FAO (Food And Argiculture Organization) contributes to overcome the problem of food security around the world, and guarantees human freedom from hunger. This study discusses the strategy of the International Food and Argiculture Organization (FAO) in dealing with food and human security problems due to climate change and extreme weather in sub-Saharan African countries. With the help of FAO, countries in Sub-Saharan Africa can implement several programs that provide benefits, especially for food, agriculture and animal husbandry. The purpose of this study was to identify and describe FAO's strategy in dealing with the food crisis caused by extreme weather in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study uses a qualitative method. In analyzing this research, the concepts of food security and Transnational and Interstate Interactions are used to analyze the role of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) in providing technical assistance in agriculture for food security in Sub-Saharan Africa. FAO as an international organization is the initiator and facilitator of non-state actors who seek to overcome food and human security problems caused by extreme weather.

Abstract

Based on the Geneva Convention, journalists are included in the special protection group during armed conflict. However, it is not uncommon for journalists to become victims during war. This study aims to explain the urgency of protection for journalists in armed conflict by taking a case study of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after October 7, 2023. The research method used is qualitative descriptive analytical with the approach of the special protection concept of the Geneva Convention. The results of the study show that the large number of journalist victims in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after October 7, 2023, is evidence that the rules for protection for war journalists have been inconsistent while the risks for journalists in the conflict zone continue to increase. Universal recognition of the application of journalist protection laws is increasingly urgent to protect journalists during armed conflict. The role of International Organizations is critical in voicing the urgency of protecting journalists while on duty.

Abstract

As part of climate change mitigation efforts and Indonesia's commitment to realizing low-emission land-based development, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the World Bank are following up on the REDD+ agenda through the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). The agreement aims to provide full support for increasing Indonesia's capacity in formulating a national strategy in realizing reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. East Kalimantan Province is the selected region to follow the emission reduction target. The target set is to reduce emissions by 41% in 2030. In its development, the framework has entered the implementation phase and results-based payments. However, the distribution of incentives from selling carbon to Indigenous peoples as parties who have rights to carbon and are involved in forest management initiatives has not benefited directly. This research aims to analyze further how the realization of profit sharing and fulfillment of Indigenous peoples' rights over forest management in the FCPF project is a form of coherence in climate change governance towards Indigenous peoples' rights in a fair manner. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data collection was triangulated through interviews and literature for further reduction and conclusions drawn. The results of this research state that the lack of inclusion of Indigenous communities in an inclusive and participatory manner in the carbon trading framework has the potential to reduce the rights of Indigenous communities to decentralized forest management and their welfare in carbon trading projects.

Abstract

Abstract

Desa Melintang is one of the villages in East Kalimantan Province located in the Kota Bangun area, Muara Wis District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province. The area is a water or lake region, so Desa Melintang is situated above the water. With such regional conditions, Melintang village does not have land that can be used for gardening or farming due to the absence of land or soil. This affects the vegetable needs, which cannot be produced by the people of Melintang Village themselves, so they have to be brought in from outside the region to. The long distance traveled to obtain vegetables makes it necessary for the community to spend more time dan money if they want to get vegetables. Based on the aforementioned issues, the PKM team conducted community service activities by providing hydroponic plant training to the PKK mothers' group in Melintang Village, while also donating hydroponic equipment dan supplies to the community. The results of the activity are expected to be beneficial in increasing the community's knowledge about hydroponic plants. In addition, by producing their own vegetables, the quality or freshness of the vegetables can be better guaranteed, dan the community can also save on expenses, which is expected to impact food fulfillment dan improve the welfare of the community.

Abstract

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine did not just happen, this conflict has its roots in the internal political crisis in Ukraine and the intervention by the Russian military in the Crimean Peninsula which caused serious tensions between the two countries. Then the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has generated international condemnation and deep concern about the political, economic and humanitarian consequences it will cause. The international community of course condemned Russia's actions as a violation of international law and Ukraine's sovereignty, and also the conflict between these two countries will lead to a world food crisis where Russia and Ukraine are known as one of the world's agricultural product importers. for that the international community response to this invasion is very important. G7 as one of the international communities consisting of 7 countries with advanced economies plays a role in providing financial, medical, food assistance and protection for millions of people who are affected. And also the international community seeks to deal with conflicts and violations of state sovereignty. Either diplomatically or sanctions against Russia to stop its invasion of Ukraine, And also the solution related to food insecurity cannot only be overcome by opening free market access alone. because it is not only related to this war, the possibility of changes in weather and climate will also have an impact on world agricultural output For this reason, the G7 is making efforts for both Ukraine and the countries affected by this conflict to survive world food insecurity.

Abstract

This research focuses on securitization efforts carried out by right-wing parties in European countries over the presence of immigrants and refugees in their countries' territories. European countries have long been a refuge for refugees and immigrants from various countries. This has led to an increase in the number of foreign citizens in various European countries who are seeking security and obtaining citizenship. Furthermore, after the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred in early 2020 and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine resulted in changes in the flow of voting and the views of the people of European countries regarding the presence of right-wing parties in government. This research uses a descriptive method that will explain the factors that encourage several right-wing political figures in Europe to voice issues regarding the existence of refugees and immigrants who could pose a threat in their region. Through political figures, right-wing parties use narratives and campaigns in an effort to attract and take votes from people who are dissatisfied with the direction of current political policies. Then right-wing parties also try to participate in policy making regarding the presence of immigrants and refugees in their region.

Abstract

Abstract This study describes the dilemma and the role of UNHCR in dealing with the problem of climate refugees in India. India is the host country for most refugees in South Asia however it still but has not ratified the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol regarding Refugees status and protocols. South Asia is one of the areas that are very vulnerable to climate change, population density, poverty, and lack of resources for climate change adaptation are the main obstacles for the region, also the geographical condition of South Asia which borders the Himalayas in the north and east, the Indian Ocean in the southern part. These two geographical boundaries are vulnerable to climate change, this study uses the theory of transnational interaction between countries and the theory of intergovernmental organizations (IGOs). This type of research uses descriptive research and uses qualitative analysis techniques. The method used in this research data collection is a literature study. This study has an initial argument, namely the role of UNHCR in India is Refugee Status Determination (RSD) in the form of interviewing asylum seekers and verifying documents for refugee status which then issues certified temporary residence to people who meet the criteria, and assists the voluntary repatriation of refugees by coordinate with relevant countries. By carrying out its duties, UNHCR also collaborates with NGOs in India such as Don Bosco Ashalyan, Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), National Institution for Transforming India (Niti Ayong), and Social Law Information Center (SLIC), Development and Justice Initiative (DAJI). , Save the Children India (SCI), Indian Society of International Law (ISIL).
