Abstract

The correlation between grammar mastery and writing ability was the purpose of this research study. To conduct this research, the data has collected by the researcher by using correlational research. In collecting the data, the researcher used instrument. The sample were 31 students of the eight grade students of SMPN 4 Mengwi. Quantitative data was used to apply in technique analyzing data. To get the data, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment and the data was taken from grammar and writing test. From the result showed rxy is (0.462) which that in the medium correlation. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) in this research was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be said that, the students with grammar mastery will be easier to writing ability. From the result it can be concluded that there was a positive correlation between grammar mastery and writing ability.

Abstract

Most students who are studying English have difficulty identifying general information, specific information, and textual meaning and reference because they lack vocabulary. Therefore, an appropriate and effective teaching strategy should enable the students to improve their reading comprehension. The present study attempts to find out if the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Ubud in the academic year 2020/2021 could be improved through KWL strategy combined with pictures. This research made use of a classroom action design by running two cycles and each cycle consisted of two sessions. running two cycles and each cycle consisted of two sessions. This research was done in two cycles and each cycle consisted of two sessions. The research administered pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire in order to collect the data before they were analyzed. The findings of the research revealed that there were significant improvements in subjects' achievement from the pre-test and post-test. From the questionnaire that was administered in the last cycle, the students gained positive responses in terms of their changing learning behavior toward the application of KWL strategy. Based on the findings of the study, the student’s reading comprehension can be improved through KWL strategy combined with the picture.

Abstract

The present study is an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022. The samples of the research consisted of 60 students which were chosen by means of random sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured matching cloze procedure test and short answer test. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

Berdasarkan dari hasil observasi yang dilakukan di Desa Cau Belayu yang ditetapkan sebagai Desa Wisata di tahun 2020, anggota Pokdarwis masih belum memiliki SDM yang mumpuni. Ini dikarenakan beberapa program kerja anggota Pokdarwis terkendala covid-19. Oleh karena itu, pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk membantu perkembangan anggota Pokdarwis dalam meningkatkan keterampilan guiding atau memandu wisatawan dan juga meningkatkan inovasi produk wirausaha yang dapat membantu perekonomian masyarakat. Adapun program kegiatan yang dilakukan ada tiga, yaitu penyuluhan, pelatihan dan praktek guiding dan pembuatan kerajinan tangan dari sampah plastik. Terdapat 10 orang anggota Pokdarwis yang diberdayakan untuk mengikuti kegiatan ini. Kegiatan ini dilangsungkan secara online dan offline dengan menerapkan protokol kesehatan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa dengan diberikan pelatihan guiding, kemampuan para anggota Pokdarwis dalam memandu wisata menjadi lebih baik. Mereka juga mampu menghasilkan kerajinan tas dengan mendaur ulang plastik bekas sehingga bisa mengurangi sampah plastik di sekitar desa; dan hasilnya bisa dijadikan barang keperluan sehari-hari. Dengan adanya kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat di Desa Cau Belayu, anggota pokdarwis memiliki bekal berkelanjutan tentang apa yang harus dikembangkan untuk kemajuan desa wisatanya.

Abstract

Every research must have a purpose, as well as this study, which aims to determine the correlation between self-confidence and interpreting ability in seventh semester students of English Study Program at FKIP Unmas Denpasar. There were 27 students taken as a sample of class VII B with cluster sampling technique. This research was designed using correlation research. For data collection in this study, there were two instruments used, namely a questionnaire for a self-confidence test consisting of 30 items and an interpreting test. The collected data was then analyzed using Pearson's Product Moment Correlation on IBM SPSS Statistic 25. The results of the data analysis and based on statistical calculations obtained r of 0.617. From these results, it can be seen that there is a correlation between self-confidence and interpreting of the seventh semester of the English Language Study Program, FKIP Unmas Denpasar. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.

Self-confidence has an important role in the learners’ willingness to communicate. The present study was to find out whether there was a significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMA N 1 Abiansemal in academic year 2022/2023. This research used an ex-post facto. The samples consisted of 34 students which were chosen by means of purposive cluster sampling method. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were questionnaire and speaking test. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test. The result of the data analysis clearly revealed that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there was a significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMA N 1 Abiansemal in academic year 2022/2023.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the impact of characterization and intrinsic elements on the lion king movie (2019) for EFL learners in the literary work of The Lion King movie. The movie genres of The Lion King are adventure, drama, and animation. This movie is a type of fable that talked about the struggle of a brave lion cub who was exiled to the middle of the forest and fights to reclaim his throne. Researchers obtained data from the appearance, characters, and dialogue in the movie The Lion King by using qualitative methods. Based on the results of this research, the researcher found five intrinsic elements namely theme, character, plot, setting, and point of view, and the researcher also got some positive impacts from the movie The Lion King for EFL learners.

Abstract

Students with proficient writing skills can articulate their thoughts, beliefs, knowledge, emotions, and experiences. Students should be familiar with paragraph arrangement and general structure. However, they continued to struggle with writing paragraphs, particularly descriptive paragraphs. In addition, they were unable to organize it in terms of general structures, coherence, and unity. The primary purpose of this study was to examine whether the writing skills of the eighth-grade students of SMP Cipta Dharma Denpasar might be enhanced through small group discussion combined with picture. This research employed a two-cycle classroom action research design. The relevant data were obtained using instruments, including paragraph construction tests and a structured questionnaire. Following a cyclical research procedure, it was determined that small group discussion combined with picture was suitable for enhancing the writing skills of the subjects. It was evident from the findings of the pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2 that their writing skills had improved significantly. In addition, it was supported by the structured questionnaire, which revealed positive responses to the technique. It may be inferred that the writing skills of the eighth-grade students of SMP Cipta Dharma Denpasar could be improved by small group discussion combined with picture

Abstract

This study used classroom action research design which was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of two sessions. The subject was class IX F of SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar which consisted of 38 students. In this present study, the research instruments used were tests (pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2) and questionnaire. The result of the pre-test showed that the students' ability in speaking was still low. They still had problems with vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, comprehension, and fluency. To solve that problem, the researcher used storytelling technique assisted with picture series that was carried out in two cycles. Based on the data of pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2 which were respectively 60.52, 70.13, and 80.52, it showed that there were improvements in speaking when they retold the narrative story. In addition, the questionnaire data showed that there were positive responses towards the implementation of storytelling technique in improving the subjects’ speaking skill. In conclusion, this study research proved that speaking skill of the ninth-grade students of SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through storytelling technique assisted with picture series.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang penggunaan talking chips untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas sepuluh SMAN 2 Mengwi pada tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua siklus, masing-masing terdiri dari dua sesi. Peneliti menilai subjek dengan menggunakan rubrik penilaian berdasarkan tiga kriteria; kefasihan, pemahaman, dan tata bahasa. Penelitian dimulai dengan memberikan pretest kepada subjek yang diteliti. Skor rata-rata dalam pre-test menunjukkan angka 51,80. Hasil skor post-test pada siklus I menunjukkan peningkatan angka rata-rata sebesar 80,91. Hasil skor post test yang diperoleh subjek yang diteliti pada siklus II menunjukkan angka mean yang meningkat yaitu 91,46. Kemudian, data dianalisis dengan membandingkan hasil pre-test dan post-test. Peningkatan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Hasil dari pemberian kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa 62,62% subjek sangat setuju, 30,99% setuju, 6,20% ragu-ragu, 0,13% tidak setuju dan 0,06% sangat tidak setuju dengan penggunaan talking chips dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara. Respon siswa positif terhadap penerapan talking chips.
