Abstract

Abstract

The use of kenaf fiber as an eco-friendly textile material faces challenges in the dye printing process, particularly due to its limited dye absorption. This study aims to investigate and optimize various pre-treatment methods on handloom kenaf fabrics for reactive dye printing. A laboratory-based factorial design was employed, testing four pre-treatment variations: untreated, scouring, bleaching, and a combination of scouring and bleaching. Evaluations focused on color fastness to washing, rubbing, and perspiration, following national and international testing standards. Results indicated that single bleaching treatment yielded the most optimal print outcomes, characterized by bright, uniform colors and superior fastness properties, especially under dry rubbing and washing. The combined scouring-bleaching method produced inconsistent results, likely due to fiber degradation caused by over-treatment. It is concluded that single-step bleaching is the most effective pre-treatment for reactive dye printing on handloom kenaf fabrics. This research contributes to the advancement of sustainable textile processing based on natural fibers.

Abstract

The utilization of marine animal waste as a base material for adsorbents has become an increasingly popular research topic across various scientific fields, including chemistry, environmental science, and materials science. Waste from marine animals, such as crab shells, oyster shell, seashell, and shrimp shell, possesses high potential to be processed into adsorbents due to their abundant calcium carbonate, chitosan, and protein content. The use of this waste as adsorbents not only provides a solution to environmental issues related to the accumulation of organic waste but also offers cheaper and eco-friendly alternative for water treatment, air purification, and contaminated soil remediation. Research has shown that marine animal waste-based adsorbents are effective in removing various pollutants, including heavy metals, textile dyes, and hazardous organic compounds. With specific modification techniques, the performance of these adsorbents can be enhanced, making them competitive with commercial adsorbents. Overall, the use of marine animal waste as adsorbents represents an innovative approach that contributes to waste reduction and the enhancement of environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Traditional batik is one of Indonesia’s cultural heritages that carries not only aesthetic value but also rich symbolism and philosophy. This study focuses on the Kapal Kandas Kudus motif, a coastal batik design rooted in the story of Admiral Cheng Ho’s shipwreck on Mount Muria. The motif contains symbolic elements that reflect the worldview of Kudus society, such as hope, life’s trials, balance, protection, and gratitude for natural abundance. The research employed a qualitative method through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review, conducted at the Muria Batik Gallery, Kudus, which serves as a center for the development of Kudus batik. Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach was applied to reveal the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings of various decorative elements, including ships, fish, seaweed, and coral reefs. The findings indicate that the Kapal Kandas motif was historically used in traditional ceremonies such as circumcisions and communal celebrations but has now become more flexible, being worn on diverse occasions. This shift illustrates cultural adaptability while maintaining symbolic values inherited from ancestors. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding the symbolic meanings of batik motifs as a means of cultural preservation and as a reinforcement of national identity.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital marketing has encouraged Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to utilize online platforms to enhance sales and business sustainability. However, the effectiveness of these strategies must be assessed alongside financial feasibility. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of a printed batik imitation MSME, MEA Batik Pekalongan, based on its digital marketing strategies through Shopee, TikTok, and Telegram. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, supported by qualitative analysis through interviews, observations, and documentation of sales and production cost data. Financial feasibility was evaluated using Break Even Point (BEP), Payback Period (PP), and Benefit-Cost Ratio (B/C). The results show a monthly gross revenue of IDR 52,050,000 with a net profit of IDR 10,342,625. The BEP of 423 units per month is lower than actual sales of 875 units, while the Payback Period is achieved in approximately 2 months, with a B/C ratio of 1.29. Telegram yields the highest profit margin, while Shopee and TikTok expand market reach. Overall, multi-platform digital marketing integration improves profitability and indicates that the business is financially feasible for further development.
