Abstract

This research analyzes the growth of research on financial management in the age of globalization using Scopus from the years 2000 to 2024. There is an evident growth in the number of publications in congressed performance data and the results show the years after 2017 are especially due to worldwide digital shocks and the increased emphasis on sustainable development. Using science-mapping techniques, the analysis identifies the major concepts of globalization and finance and the emerging subthemes of the green finance, risk management, innovation, and supply-chain finance, as well as the post-COVID transformations. The changes within the subfields and the governance and digital and environmental changes are illustrated in the co-occurrence and word cloud structures of documents. Data from co-citation clustering point to the primary knowledge base of the subfield to be institutional theory, network society and global production systems in the literature, and critical political economy. The sheer volume of the knowledge shows the interdisciplinary and expanding contour of research on the crossing of globalization and the management of finance. The study has resulted in a synthesized knowledge of the most notable contributions, and the more comprehensive thematic areas and untapped areas, which is beneficial to academia, to practice, and to governance, and finance on a global scale.

Abstract

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of intrahousehold financial management research, drawing on 135 journal articles indexed in Scopus. Using VOSviewer, the analysis maps co-authorship networks, country collaborations, and keyword co-occurrence patterns to reveal the intellectual and social structure of the field. Results show a concentrated co-authorship network led by a small group of researchers, primarily from Japanese institutions, and a country collaboration pattern centered on the United States with strong links to Japan and several developing countries. Keyword analysis identifies gender as the central organizing concept, connected to four distinct thematic clusters focused on resource allocation, bargaining processes, decision-making and financial literacy, and broader social outcomes such as poverty and gender equality. These findings indicate that contemporary scholarship emphasizes gender disparities and bargaining power within households, particularly in developing contexts, while behavioral and psychological dimensions remain less integrated. The study highlights opportunities to broaden theoretical perspectives and geographic scope to achieve more comprehensive understandings of household financial practices.

Abstract

Microentrepreneurship significantly contributes to economic development in resource-rich regions like East Kalimantan, yet faces challenges due to low financial literacy and limited digital adoption. Existing research highlights the importance of financial literacy for business success, but underexplores the role of digital financial literacy and regional contexts. This study investigates how financial literacy and digital financial literacy influence microentrepreneur success, with financial planning as a mediating factor. Using a quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling, data were collected from 160 microentrepreneurs in East Kalimantan. The findings reveal that financial literacy directly enhances business success, while digital financial literacy impacts success indirectly through financial planning. The model explains 60.8% of the variance in microentrepreneur success, emphasizing the critical role of structured financial strategies. These results suggest that integrating digital tools into financial education can foster sustainable business growth.

Abstract

The "Trash to Cash: Jago Atur Uang, Jago Rawat Bumi" program, conducted at SDN 008 Waru, Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, aimed to enhance sixth-grade students’ understanding of waste management and financial literacy through an interactive educational intervention. Targeting 30 students aged 11–12 years, the program integrated the eco-financial concept, transforming inorganic waste, such as plastic bottles and cardboard, into economic assets via waste banks, with proceeds encouraging savings habits. Employing an action research approach, the intervention utilized presentations, the "Tebak Sampah" game, and a waste value calculation quiz. The results demonstrated a significant increase in waste classification knowledge (from 40% to 85% accuracy), with 95% of students recognizing the economic value of recyclables and 80% accurately calculating waste-derived income. Qualitative findings indicated high engagement and intention to collect recyclables, suggesting potential behavioral changes toward sustainability. Challenges, including time constraints and classroom management, did not diminish the program’s success in achieving its goals. This study contributes a novel framework for integrating environmental and financial education, offering a replicable model for primary schools to support the sustainable development goals.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationships among financial literacy, product innovation, risk management, and financial performance in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in East Kalimantan, a region in Indonesia characterized by its resource abundance. While prior studies underscore the importance of financial literacy and innovation for SME success, there is limited research focusing on non-urban, commodity-reliant settings. Using a quantitative methodology, this study employs Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling to analyze data gathered from 200 SME owners in non-extractive industries through a structured survey. This study explores whether financial literacy and product innovation directly affect financial performance and whether risk management mediates these dynamics. The findings reveal that financial literacy has a significant positive effect on financial performance, whereas product innovation strengthens risk management but does not directly influence financial outcomes. Additionally, risk management does not mediate these relationships, indicating potential contextual constraints in resource-limited environments. These insights advance the understanding of SME operations in non-urban, resource-dependent regions and highlight the need for customized financial education and innovation. This study provides actionable recommendations for policymakers to enhance SME resilience through targeted strategies, addressing a key gap in the literature on economies tied to natural resources.

Abstract

Geopolitical disruptions fundamentally challenge the financial stability of manufacturing firms in emerging economies, particularly those deeply embedded in global supply chains. This study examines how liquidity coverage ratio (LCR), debt-to-equity ratio (DER), total asset turnover ratio (TATO), and firm size (FS) influence the financial resilience of ASEAN manufacturing firms, measured by current ratio (CR) and net income (NI). Using a balanced panel of 391 publicly listed firms across Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore over 2020-2024, a period marked by acute geopolitical volatility, we employ fixed-effects (FE) and random-effects (RE) panel regression as determined by the Hausman test. Our results reveal that LCR significantly enhances both CR and NI, affirming liquidity as the primary driver of resilience. DER positively affects CR but not NI, suggesting strategic short-term debt use bolsters short-term liquidity in emerging market contexts without proportionate profitability gains. TATO exerts no significant effect on either outcome, consistent with the view that asset efficiency loses relevance during operational disruptions. FS significantly enhances NI but not CR, highlighting scale advantages in sustaining profitability. These findings offer three contributions: they extend liquidity theory to ASEAN's export-driven context; challenge conventional capital structure assumptions in emerging markets; and provide a historical evidence base for managing the recent Iran-Israel conflict's disruptions. Practical implications are drawn for firm-level cash flow management and for policymakers designing credit support and regional trade integration frameworks.

Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the food service sector frequently prioritize relational harmony over economic rationality when managing supplier relationships, yet the operational and financial consequences of this orientation remain underexplored in the Indonesian context. This study analyzes conflict avoidance behavior and its implications for cost efficiency, product quality, and supplier relationship management at Bopan Cake Samarinda, a micro-scale bakery enterprise. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the business owner and direct non-participatory observation of daily operational activities. Thematic analysis identified five interlocking behavioral and operational patterns: (1) an avoidance-style conflict management that suppresses quality complaints to preserve supplier harmony; (2) harmony-seeking behavior that generates negative feedback barriers in the supply chain; (3) an independent, quality-driven procurement strategy; (4) perishable goods risk exposure due to organizational silence; and (5) constrained bargaining power offset by wholesale volume tactics. Findings indicate that conflict avoidance simultaneously protects product quality standards and erodes cost efficiency through uncompensated raw material waste. The study contributes an empirical case from East Kalimantan to the broader literature on organizational behavior in MSMEs and proposes an assertive communication model as a cost-neutral improvement pathway for similar small enterprises.

Abstract

This study employs a quantitative bibliometric analysis of 102 Scopus-indexed articles to map the intellectual structure of decision-making in crisis management within the financial management domain. Using VOSviewer for co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and text-data analyses, the research reveals reactive publication surges following major financial shocks, fragmented collaboration networks dominated by developed economies, and three thematic clusters reflecting a shift from rational-normative models toward hybrid behavioral-technology frameworks. While technology integration shows promising growth, unresolved contradictions persist between behavioral biases and algorithmic solutions. The findings highlight significant contextual gaps, particularly the under-representation of emerging-market perspectives. Theoretically, the study provides a structured intellectual scaffold that integrates macro-systemic dynamics with micro-level behavioral heterogeneity. Practically, it offers guidance for financial managers in volatile environments, with specific relevance to Indonesia where institutional and cultural factors amplify decision-making challenges. The research underscores the need for context-sensitive hybrid models and stronger South-South collaboration to enhance financial resilience in emerging economies facing recurrent global crises.
