Abstract

Postpartum obesity increases the risk of postnatal complications and is often triggered by low physical activity. Fatigue, hormonal changes, and the responsibilities of caring for a baby all contribute to this condition. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered counseling technique that aims to awaken intrinsic motivation for adopting healthy behaviors, including increased physical activity during the postpartum period. This study analyzed the effect of MI intervention on the physical activity of obese postpartum mothers. A total of 30 respondents were selected through purposive and convenience sampling based on inclusion criteria and accessibility. Physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire–Short Form (IPAQ-SF). Before the intervention, 63.3% of respondents were in the low physical activity category, indicating a sedentary lifestyle. After a series of MI sessions, there was a significant increase in physical activity levels to the moderate category. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in postpartum mothers’ physical activity following the intervention. This finding highlights the effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing in encouraging behavior change during the critical postpartum period. MI not only promotes increased activity but also empowers mothers to make healthier choices through reflective listening, goal setting, and self-efficacy building. Given the positive outcomes, this strategy is highly recommended for integration into midwifery and maternal health education programs. It can play a pivotal role in preventing long-term complications associated with obesity, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression. Further studies are encouraged to evaluate the long-term adherence to physical activity and to examine the potential psychological benefits of MI in the postpartum population.

Abstract

Introduction: Low back pain (LBP) during pregnancy can interfere with physical activity, sleep patterns, and quality of life. One safe and effective therapy to relieve it is prenatal gentle yoga. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of prenatal gentle yoga on the level of LBP in pregnant women at Hulonthalangi Health Center. The research design used quasi-experiment with pretest-posttest control group. A total of 24 pregnant women were divided into two groups, those are intervention (prenatal gentle yoga) and control (educational leaflet). The prenatal gentle yoga intervention was carried out over four sessions, with a frequency of twice a week, and each session lasted for 30 to 45 minutes.Test results of independent t-test showed an average difference in pain of -2.83 points with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), which means there was a significant decrease in pain in the intervention group. Around 83.3% respondents in the intervention group experienced a decrease in pain from moderate and severe pain to mild and no pain, while the control group only had 33.3%. This study shows that prenatal gentle yoga is significantly effective in reducing Low back pain (LBP) in pregnant women.

Abstract

The postpartum period requires integrated physical and psychological care; however, interventions that simultaneously address breast milk production and postpartum depression through culturally grounded approaches remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the Tontholo cultural practice in increasing breast milk production and preventing postpartum depression among postpartum mothers. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design was conducted over one month involving 38 postpartum mothers selected using purposive sampling and divided into intervention (n=19) and control (n=19) groups; data were collected using breast milk production observation sheets and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and analyzed using t-test with a significance level of p<0.05. The intervention group demonstrated a significantly greater increase in breast milk production compared to the control group. Moreover, a more substantial reduction in EPDS scores was observed in the intervention group, indicating improved maternal psychological well-being. In conclusion, Tontholo represents an innovative culture-based complementary model that integrates biological and psychosocial mechanisms to enhance lactation and reduce postpartum depression risk.

Abstract

The high number of maternal deaths in Indonesia demonstrates the importance of health promotion efforts, particularly regarding pregnancy planning and reproductive health. This study aimed to determine the effect of pregnancy planning and reproductive health education on the knowledge of fertile couples in the Dungingi Community Health Center (Puskesmas). The study employed a single-group pre-experimental design with a pretest and posttest, involving 30 fertile couples selected using a simple random sampling method. The instruments used in this study were a questionnaire and educational media in the form of a booklet. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the education, respondents' knowledge was categorized as poor (16.7%), sufficient (73.3%), and good (10%). After the education, the sufficient category decreased to 53.3%, the good category increased to 46.7%, and the poor category decreased to 0%. The average knowledge score also increased from 13.10 (SD=1.72) in the pretest to 15.30 (SD=1.44) in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of education in improving the knowledge of fertile couples. The conclusion of this study is that education about pregnancy planning and reproductive health is effective in improving the knowledge of fertile couples. This intervention should be implemented routinely, especially for young people and those with secondary education, using easy-to-understand media such as booklets. It is recommended for health workers to expand similar educational programs in primary care facilities to support healthy pregnancy preparedness and reduce the risk of unsafe pregnancies.

Abstract

Abstract

The support that mothers with HIV expect is not only during pregnancy but also throughout the postpartum period and the rest of their life as a mother. Objective: to dig deeper into family support for postpartum mothers with HIV. This research is a quantitative research with a phenomenological approach. The number of participants in this study is two participants who will be interviewed in depth using an unstructured interview guide. Data analysis in this study is divided into three parts, including data reduction, data display and conclusion or verification. Family support is important for all informants, both support from parents and from husbands. Participants felt that the support they received from their families was much greater than the support they received from their husbands.
