Abstract

The high number of sexual violence cases against women in Indonesia remains alarming, with a recent surge in gender-based cyber violence that exploits victims through sexual content. This phenomenon prompted the author to investigate how the Instagram account @perempuanberkisah manages public narratives and responses from netizens toward stories shared by women victims of sextortion. The main objective of this research is to analyze the sentiment and discourse dynamics generated in the comment sections of this platform. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, the study selected three sextortion-related posts from @perempuanberkisah during 2023. Sentiment analysis was also conducted to categorize the direction of netizen comments into positive, negative, and neutral. The findings reveal that neutral sentiments dominate the discussions, surpassing positive and negative sentiments across all three posts. This suggests that while @perempuanberkisah serves as a platform for raising awareness and empowering victims, netizen engagement tends to remain cautious and reflective rather than explicitly supportive or oppositional. Theoretically, this study enriches feminist perspectives on digital activism and online narrative management. Practically, it highlights the importance of safe online spaces for survivors. Future research is encouraged to explore similar issues using additional theoretical frameworks and comparative platforms.

Abstract

The way interpersonal relationships, particularly romantic ones, are formed has gradually transitioned to the virtual realm. Digital communication media now serve as platforms where users can meet and establish relationships without the constraints of physical distance and face-to-face interactions. The phenomenon of Virtual Lovers, originating in China, explains how individuals offer services as virtual partners to accompany clients. This relationship can be understood through the concept of Mediated Relationship, where romantic relationships flourish without contextual limitations, using digital communication as the primary medium. This study aims to explore the virtual communication process and interpersonal relationships of a Virtual Lover in their profession. Using a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative approach, this study aims to examine the experiences and values of Virtual Lovers in situational romantic interactions with their clients. It was found that a Virtual Lover communicates with their client in a situational romantic relationship, engaging in conversations or sharing stories about life’s problems. Virtual Lovers create a self-profile reflecting how they wish to be perceived through virtual communication. This exchange of information builds familiarity and trust as their knowledge of each other deepens. Despite not meeting face-to-face, Virtual Lovers feel their persona as a talent is distinct from their real-life self, where talent must listen attentively and adapt to the needs of their clients. Agencies acting as intermediaries between clients and talents enforce various regulations to protect the privacy and security of all parties involved.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of dialogic communication in increasing teachers' critical awareness through Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy approach. The background of this study is based on the reality of traditional education that still applies the banking education model, where teachers are the only source of knowledge and students are only passive recipients. This model closes the space for dialogue, reflection, and critical thinking. In contrast, Freire's approach emphasizes the importance of equal dialogue between teachers and students as a path to liberation and critical awareness. This study uses a qualitative method with a sociocultural approach and a constructivist paradigm. Data were collected through structured interviews with three teachers from vocational high schools who have different backgrounds, experiences, and involvement in reflective communities. The results of the study indicate that dialogic communication is understood as a process of open exchange of ideas. However, its implementation is still limited by structural obstacles such as time, a dense curriculum, and the hierarchical culture of schools. Teachers who are active in dialogic forums tend to have a higher critical awareness of educational issues. This study confirms that dialogic communication not only increases student participation but is also an effective strategy for forming reflective and transformative teachers. Systemic support is needed so that dialogic communication can develop sustainably in the educational environment.

Abstract

In the rapidly evolving digital era, traditional communities such as Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT) have demonstrated remarkable adaptability by strengthening their collective identity through social media platforms like Instagram. This study aims to analyze communication patterns and identity negotiation within the PSHT community on the Instagram account @pshterateindonesia. Using a netnographic approach—an adaptation of ethnography for online research—data were collected through participatory observation of 18,000 posts, comments, and symbols from 2020 to 2024. The findings reveal how community members build solidarity through online interactions, collective narratives, cultural symbols, and communicative practices that reflect traditional PSHT values. The results indicate that the PSHT community successfully strengthens its collective identity in the digital space through educational content, social activities, and the use of distinctive symbols such as black-and-white uniforms and martial arts techniques. Values of brotherhood, discipline, and service to society form the core of the narratives shared on this platform. However, the study also highlights a paradox between the idealism of brotherhood promoted online and incidents of violence involving PSHT members in real life. These findings provide insights into the adaptation of traditional culture to digital spaces, the role of social media in fostering community solidarity, and the challenges of maintaining value consistency across both realms. This research is relevant for understanding online community phenomena in Indonesia and offers recommendations for community managers on leveraging digital platforms to strengthen organizations and promote positive values. Keywords: identity negotiation; communicative action; PSHT community; Instagram social media; Online Solidarity
