Abstract

Fe3-xCoxO4 nanoparticles (x = 0.25 and 0.375) were successfully synthesized using natural iron sand as the base material through a coprecipitation method with the addition of CoCl2·6H2O as a cobalt source. Optical characterization was carried out using UV–Vis spectroscopy in the wavelength range of 200–800 nm to analyze the electronic properties of the material. The measurement results showed that increasing the cobalt fraction strengthened the absorption in the visible region and shifted the absorption onset to lower energies, indicating a narrowing of the band gap energy. Tauc analysis revealed that the direct gap energy decreased from 2.271 eV (x = 0.25) to 2.221 eV (x = 0.375), while the indirect gap energy decreased from 2.222 eV to 2.204 eV. Furthermore, the Urbach energy calculation shows an increase from 0.073 eV at x = 0.25 to 0.074 eV at x = 0.375, indicating an increase in local disorder that broadens the band tail. This finding is consistent with previous research reports on Co-doped magnetite and CoFe2O4, and confirms that cobalt doping is effective in enhancing the visible light absorption capacity. Thus, Fe3-xCoxO4 based on natural iron sand, especially at x = 0.375, has potential applications as an active material in visible light-based photocatalysis and solar energy optoelectronic devices.

Abstract

Geotechnical construction failures and sinkhole risks in critical infrastructure areas are often exacerbated by the unpredictable nature of karst subsurface structures. The identification of subsurface cavities in limestone poses significant challenges due to material heterogeneity and the complexity of wave propagation. This study aims to evaluate the response of seismic tomography inversion models to real-world conditions, particularly in detecting the influence of cavities and secondary structures on P-wave velocity ( ) characteristics. Data acquisition was conducted in the Kalipalung Formation using five seismic refraction lines with a constant inversion scheme of 20 iterations. The results demonstrate that model accuracy is highly sensitive to surface geometry, where the Root Relative Mean Square Error (RRMSE) increased drastically from 7.97% on flat topography to 39.79% on steep slopes due to wavefield scattering phenomena. Physically, the inversion model successfully identified lithological zoning with a  range of 300–3900 m/s. However, the presence of secondary structures, such as massive stalactites and calcite recrystallization, causes cavity anomalies (300–600 m/s) to appear fragmented (spotty) and discontinuous. This phenomenon confirms the presence of volume averaging and blind zone effects that mask the acoustic impedance contrast between air and the host rock. Thus, while seismic tomography is effective in mapping subsurface material heterogeneity, the internal complexity of karst systems and extreme topography remain the primary limiting factors in fully delineating cavity geometry. This evaluation highlights the necessity of topographic static corrections and high-density sensor arrays to reduce interpretation uncertainty in extreme karst zones

Abstract

Titanium dioxide (TiO₂) is a semiconductor material widely used in photocatalysis, sensor, energy conversion, and environmental remediation applications because its performance is strongly influenced by structural characteristics, particularly particle size, crystal size, morphology, and crystal phase. This systematic review aims to analyze the influence of green synthesis parameters based on the solvothermal method on the particle size and crystal size of TiO₂. Articles were collected from the Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases within the 2021–2025 publication range using combinations of Boolean keywords related to solvothermal synthesis, TiO₂, and green synthesis. Article selection was conducted based on inclusion and exclusion criteria emphasizing original research articles, the use of the solvothermal method, a green synthesis approach, and the availability of material characterization data. The review results showed that four articles met the inclusion criteria, with variations in TiO₂ particle size ranging from 25.41 to 100 nm and crystal size ranging from 0.96 to 31.9 nm. Parameters such as precursor type, solvent, green extract, solvothermal temperature, and processing time played important roles in regulating nucleation, crystal growth, surface stabilization, and particle agglomeration. The smallest particle size was obtained in the titanium isopropoxide–deionized water–banana peel system at 100 °C, whereas modified systems such as Ag-doped TiO₂ and TiO₂@g-C₃N₄ showed that application performance is determined not only by particle size but also by electronic engineering and interface structure. The conclusion of this review affirms that the optimization of green solvothermal synthesis of TiO₂ needs to be directed toward integrated control of particle size, crystal size, crystal phase, morphology, and application performance. The implications of this review contribute to the development of more targeted, efficient, and relevant green TiO₂ synthesis for sustainable functional material applications.

Abstract

Coastal destinations require site-specific weather information because visitor activities, service delivery, and outdoor operations are strongly shaped by local thermal conditions. This study examines the temperature characteristics of Mandalika Beach Club (MBC), Indonesia, as a coastal tourism activity space and evaluates the extent to which official BMKG data can represent the on-site thermal environment. Hourly field observations were collected from 8 July to 16 August 2025, producing 960 paired records with BMKG temperature data from the Lombok International Airport station. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, temporal visualization, daily thermal indicators, and error metrics comprising mean bias error (MBE), mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean square error (RMSE). The results show that MBC was warmer on average than BMKG by approximately 1.22 °C, but it exhibited lower variability, with a standard deviation of 1.12 °C and an overall range of 6.88 °C compared with 2.91 °C and 13.00 °C in the BMKG dataset. The positive MBE of 1.21 °C indicates a persistent local warm bias, while the MAE of 3.24 °C and RMSE of 3.60 °C reveal substantial hourly discrepancies. These findings demonstrate that regional meteorological data are useful for general weather context, but they are insufficient as the sole basis for visitor-oriented thermal management at coastal tourism sites. The study contributes to tourism studies by translating microclimate evidence into practical implications for activity scheduling, shade planning, hydration provision, heat-risk communication, and climate-responsive destination management.

Abstract

Understanding the periodic behavior of air temperature is essential for identifying local climatic dynamics, particularly in island regions where topography, coastal influence, and land–sea interactions may generate spatially heterogeneous thermal patterns. This study successfully characterized the periodic dynamics of air temperature across four regions of Lombok Island, Indonesia, namely Labuhan Lombok, Bayan, Lembar, and Kuta. A quantitative time-series approach was applied using hourly air temperature observations, which were analyzed through sine fitting, residual analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The ANOVA results confirmed that the sine wave model was statistically significant in all observation regions, with p-values below 0.0001, indicating the strong presence of periodic temperature behavior. Bayan produced the highest F-value, followed by Labuhan Lombok, suggesting stronger model suitability in these regions, while Lembar and Kuta remained statistically significant despite exhibiting more moderate periodic model strength. Residual analysis showed that the sine model effectively captured the dominant daily temperature cycle, although several short-term local fluctuations were not fully represented by a single harmonic function. The FFT results further revealed a dominant frequency component in all regions, confirming that air temperature variability in Lombok is primarily governed by a diurnal cycle. Overall, the findings demonstrate that temperature periodicity across Lombok differs spatially in terms of mean temperature, fluctuation amplitude, model fitness, and dominant frequency characteristics. This study provides a quantitative basis for local climate characterization and supports future microclimate assessment, environmental monitoring, and region-specific climate adaptation planning in island environments.

Abstract

The seismotectonic activity in the Northern Sector of the Banda Arc is highly active and destructive, as evidenced by historical earthquakes dating back to 1674, including the 2023 Banda Sea earthquake. This study aims to evaluate seismotectonic dynamics both spatially and temporally, providing an overview of seismic risk in the region. The novelty of this study lies in the vertical stratification analysis of -values and focal mechanism parameters utilizing an earthquake catalog updated through March 2026. The seismotectonic evaluation was conducted by analyzing the temporal -values over a 26-year observation period using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method. Spatial b-value analysis was performed on the Seram and Buru segments, along with vertical stratification in the shallow (0-35 km) and deep (35-100 km) layers. The study results indicate that the shallow layer acts as the primary zone of stress accumulation (< 1.0), whereas the deep layer is in a relaxation phase ( > 1.4). Focal mechanism analysis confirms that stress accumulation in the shallow zone is driven by a Northeast–Southwest compressive force, which is released periodically through a combination of local thrust and strike-slip faulting. The Buru segment is identified as being under critical tectonic vulnerability due to a consistent decrease in b-values to 0.87 without a significant relaxation phase. The implications of this research include increased periodic seismic monitoring and strengthening of both structural and non-structural disaster mitigation programs in the Central Maluku region, particularly in Buru Island.
