Abstract

Abstract

Ovarian follicle dinamycs and estrogen concentration interrelated to cow reproduction traits. Some previous studies said that preovulatory follicle directly related to estrogen concentration which induce estrous quality, and increasing pregnancy rate when artificial insemination happened. Another important factor to optimizing reproduction performance is altitude. Here in Indonesia these factors has not been studied further in PO cows. A total of 24 Peranakan Ongole (PO) cows, 12 cows from highlands or mountains of Kalibawang, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, Indonesia and 12 cows from lowlands or lowland of Galur District, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, Indonesia selected based on criterias; these cows ever had calves, not pregnant, 3-8 years old, have a Body Condition Score (BCS) of 2.5-3.5, in the peak phase of estrus and not experienced reproductive problems. The diameter of the cow ovarian follicles were examined using ultrasound and sera were taken to calculated the estrogen concentration using ELISA, meanwhile the NSPC taken from recording and farmer interview. The result showed that no difference of follicle diameter and estrogen concentration between mountain and lowland (p>0,05), a significant difference found in NSPC between mountain and lowland (p<0,05), and a strong correlation found betweend follicle diameter, estrogen concentration and NSPC (p<0,05), proved that the larger the follicle diameter, the higher the estrogen level and will improve the reproductive trait of PO cows.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of age variation on testicular morphometry and spermatozoa motility in cats. A total of 21 male cats were grouped into three age categories (< 1 year, 1–3 years, and 3 years). The testes were collected through an open castration procedure, and their morphometric parameters (length, width, and circumference) were measured. Semen samples were obtained by incising the cauda epididymis of each testis to evaluate its motility level under a light microscope. Data were analyzed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by the Tukey test to identify differences between groups. The results showed that age variation did not cause a significant difference in the morphometric characteristics of the collected testes (P>0.05). However, a significant difference was found in spermatozoa motility levels among the different age groups. It is concluded that age does not affect the physical dimensions of the testis but has a significant influence on the functional quality of spermatozoa. The 1–3 year-old group showed the optimal level of spermatozoa motility compared to the other age groups in this study

Abstract

The Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is an endemic species native to Indonesia and is currently classified as Critically Endangered (CE). Conservation cannot depend solely on regulations; it requires active societal participation, strengthened by early environmental literacy. This study evaluated the impact of storytelling and outdoor learning on elementary students’ literacy in Riau Province. A one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among elementary students aged 9–13 years who met the inclusion criteria, recruited from schools surrounding Tesso Nilo National Park, Riau Province. The intervention consisted of storytelling and outdoor learning activities. Data were obtained using a 12-item questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics and paired t-tests to assess differences in literacy scores before and after the intervention. A total of 71 students participated in the study. The mean pretest score was 59.27 ± 14.08, which increased to 75.80 ± 16.79 on the posttest. A paired t-test confirmed a statistically significant improvement in conservation literacy following the intervention (t = –8.45, df = 70, p < 0.001). This finding suggests that storytelling, combined with outdoor learning, is an effective strategy for enhancing elementary school students' literacy in Sumatran tiger conservation. Storytelling and outdoor learning are effective educational strategies for improving conservation literacy among elementary school students. Early integration of environmental education into school curricula may play a crucial role in fostering long-term commitment to wildlife conservation.

Abstract

This systematic review aims to analyse the trends in feline medical articles published in veterinary journals by veterinary schools across Indonesia. Articles related to feline medicine were collected from SINTA 2-accredited veterinary journals. Out of 943 total articles, only 38 (4.03%) focused on feline medicine, indicating its limited attention. The number of feline medicine publications grew from 10 in 2022 to 20 in 2023, before dropping to 8 in 2024. Content analysis revealed that 50% of the studies were quantitative, 15.79% qualitative, and 34.21% mixed-methods. Study designs included case reports (39.47%), cross-sectional studies (23.68%), and surveys (13.16%), with a smaller proportion conducting RCTs, cohort studies, and reviews. Descriptive analysis (63.16%) was the most common data analysis technique, followed by t-tests, Chi-Square, and ANOVA. The research covered disciplines like internal medicine (47.37%), surgery (13.16%), and dermatology (10.53%). This review highlights the underrepresentation of feline medicine research in Indonesian veterinary journals and calls for a broader focus on this area to better address the medical needs of cats.
