Abstract

Purpose – This study examines the volatility behavior and resilience of conventional and Islamic stock indices in Indonesia during periods of geopolitical uncertainty, focusing on the Israeli–Palestine conflict.Methodology – This study employs the GARCH(1,1) model to examine the volatility dynamics of four major stock indices: the Jakarta Composite Index (JKSE), LQ45, the Indonesia Sharia Stock Index (JKISSI), and the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII). The analysis covers the period from January 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024, enabling an evaluation of market dynamics before, during, and after the conflict on October 7, 2023.Findings – The results show that conventional indices (JKSE and LQ45) exhibit significant volatility persistence, suggesting a higher susceptibility to prolonged instability during geopolitical tensions. Conversely, the Islamic indices (JKISSI and JII) are more responsive to recent market shocks, indicating greater resilience owing to ethical investment principles that avoid high-risk sectors. Furthermore, this study finds that external macroeconomic factors generally do not significantly influence stock market volatility in Indonesia.Implications – This may be due to the predominance of internal factors and local market dynamics over external global shocks, reflecting the Indonesian market’s less integrated nature in the global financial system. These findings offer valuable insights for investors and policymakers in managing risk and optimizing portfolio strategies amid geopolitical stress.Originality – This study contributes to the growing body of literature on the comparative analysis of conventional and Islamic investments in emerging markets.

Abstract

The escalation of the Israel-Palestine conflict has garnered global attention. Public condemnation through mass boycotts of pro-Israel products has significantly impacted capital markets, particularly the sharia stock market in countries with Muslim majority populations. The volatility of sharia stock returns becomes a crucial focal point in this context as it serves as a sensitive indicator of geopolitical events and changes in investor sentiment. This study investigates the connection between the volatility of sharia stock returns in Indonesia and investor sentiment as a result of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Researchers use the GARCH (1,1) model to look at how investor sentiment and the conflict between Israel and Palestine affect the volatility of Sharia stock returns indexed by the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII), using monthly data from January 2012 to February 2024. The researchers hypothesized that investor sentiment and the Israeli-Palestine conflict affect Islamic stock returns in Indonesia, but the results of this study show that the two factors have no effect on Islamic stock returns. The findings of this research provide valuable insights for financial market practitioners, investors, and regulators in understanding the impact of geopolitical conflicts on the capital market, particularly in the context of sharia stocks in Indonesia. By considering investor sentiment factors and market fluctuations triggered by such geopolitical events, this study provides a stronger foundation for wise investment decision-making and effective risk management, thereby enhancing the stability and performance of sharia capital markets in the future.

Abstract

The Israel-Palestine conflict has sparked a boycott movement against Israeli products in Indonesia, particularly among pro-Palestinian consumers. This study aims to analyze the impact of push, pull, mooring, and sentiment variables on consumers' switching intention. The research employs the Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) model approach. Data were collected through questionnaires using a simple random sampling technique and analyzed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that push and pull factors increase consumers' switching intention, while mooring factors decrease it. Additionally, consumer sentiment towards the Israel-Palestine conflict significantly influences switching intention, both directly and as a moderator. This study contributes by integrating sentiment variables into the PPM theory, providing new insights into the influence of ethical, moral, and emotional factors on purchasing decisions. Recommendations include the importance of ethical marketing strategies and further research in countries with different socio-political contexts.

Abstract

The widespread corruption cases in Indonesia have resulted in the country's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score falling below the global average. This prevalence of corruption is certainly in stark contrast to the principles of business ethics in Islam. One concrete effort to uncover corruption is believed to be through whistleblowing. This study examines the role of whistleblowing as a manifestation of business ethics in Islam. Through a library research approach, this study analyzes the concept of whistleblowing within the context of Islamic business ethics, the ethical values underlying the practice of whistleblowing, as well as the obstacles and challenges that may be encountered in its implementation. The findings of the study indicate that Islamic ethical values, such as honesty, justice, and social responsibility, are represented through whistleblowing in Islamic business ethics. In the Qur'an, Allah SWT commands His servants to always do good and avoid wrongdoing, which aligns with the implementation of whistleblowing aimed at exposing fraud that harms the public

Abstract

This study examines the resilience of the Osage Nation as portrayed in Killers of the Flower Moon, focusing on cultural persistence, adaptation, and resistance. Grounded in Antonio Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony, this research explores how dominant narratives shape public perceptions of Indigenous resilience and agency. This research systematically identifies and interprets recurring themes related to resilience by employing textual analysis. While existing literature on Native American resilience primarily explores broad themes, there is a notable gap in research that investigates the specific resilience strategies of distinct Native American groups, such as the Osage Nation. The findings reveal that cultural persistence ensures the continuity of traditions and values, adaptation enables survival in a changing sociopolitical landscape, and resistance plays a vital role in asserting Indigenous agency. Nonetheless, the study also highlights potential biases in the film’s portrayal, mainly focusing on victimization rather than active political and legal resistance. The research underscores the importance of analyzing cinematic representations critically, as they influence public perceptions and historical memory. Furthermore, this study highlights the limitations of fictionalized narratives as historical sources and calls for future research on the real-world impact of Indigenous representations in media on policy and cultural advocacy.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of website quality on Muslim tourists’ intention to visit halal destinations, mediated by e-trust, e-satisfaction, and perceived halalness. Integrating the IS Success Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior, the study surveyed 172 Muslim travelers and analyzed the data using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that website quality significantly enhances e-trust, e-satisfaction, and perceived halalness, which in turn positively influence intention to visit. Website quality also directly affects travel intentions, underscoring its persuasive role in digital engagement. The findings contribute to halal tourism research by validating perceived halalness as a distinct mediating factor and highlight the strategic importance of culturally and religiously attuned digital platforms. Future research is encouraged to adopt longitudinal methods and broader cultural comparisons to deepen the understanding of Muslim travelers' digital behavior.
