Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an important effort to improve public health status. One simple yet highly effective behavior is handwashing with soap; however, many community members still lack awareness of its importance. In fact, washing hands with soap is one of the simplest and most effective actions to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases. Limited knowledge regarding the importance of proper handwashing techniques may increase the risk of disease spread. This community service activity aims to improve children's knowledge and skills regarding proper handwashing practices using soap. The methods used include health counseling, demonstrations, and direct practice through a participatory approach involving lecturers and students. The results indicate an increase in community understanding of the importance of proper handwashing. This health education is expected to raise community awareness in implementing clean and healthy living behaviors and encourage hygienic habits from an early age.

Abstract

Child health is one of the important indicators in assessing the level of public health. Regular monitoring of the growth and development of toddlers is essential to detect early health problems and nutritional status issues in children. Posyandu, as a community-based health service, plays an important role in improving maternal and child health through growth monitoring and health education activities. This community service activity aimed to increase mothers' knowledge and awareness about the importance of health examinations and balanced nutrition for toddlers. The method used in this activity consisted of toddler health examinations and health education provided directly to mothers at the Posyandu in Lamblang Mayang Village, Darul Imarah District. The activity began with a preparation stage, including coordination with Posyandu cadres and village officials. This was followed by the implementation stage, which involved health examinations such as weighing and measuring the height of toddlers. After the examination, health education was delivered to mothers regarding the importance of balanced nutrition and healthy dietary patterns for toddlers. The results showed that community participation was quite good, and mothers were enthusiastic in participating in all activities. The health examination provided an overview of the toddlers' growth conditions, while the educational session improved mothers' understanding of the importance of monitoring child health and providing proper nutrition. This community service activity is expected to increase community awareness in maintaining toddler health and encourage active participation in Posyandu activities to improve children's health status sustainably.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the association between the intensity of e-cigarette use and respiratory disorder symptoms among adolescents using e-cigarettes at coffee shops in Gampong Ateuk Pahlawan, Banda Aceh City. The study used a quantitative analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of adolescent e-cigarette users whose number was not known with certainty. Data were collected using a questionnaire, and the analyzed dataset contained 96 valid respondents. Univariate analysis was used to describe respondent characteristics, e-cigarette use, and respiratory symptoms, while bivariate analysis used the Pearson Chi-Square test. The results showed that 71 respondents (74.0%) were aged 20–24 years, 46 respondents (47.9%) had a bachelor-level education, 45 respondents (46.9%) were in the light e-cigarette-use category, 42 (43.8%) were in the moderate category, and 9 (9.4%) were in the heavy category. A total of 53 respondents (55.2%) experienced respiratory symptoms. Cross-tabulation showed respiratory symptoms in 46.7% of respondents in the light-use category, 71.4% in the moderate category, and 22.2% in the heavy category. The Pearson Chi-Square test produced p=0.008, indicating a statistically significant association between e-cigarette-use intensity and respiratory symptoms in this study population. The findings provide local evidence that can support health promotion, respiratory-risk education, and healthier management of e-cigarette use in adolescent social environments such as coffee shops.

Abstract

Introduction Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains one of the most common health problems among children under five years of age. One of the factors associated with the incidence of ARI is household cigarette smoke exposure. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between household cigarette smoke exposure and the incidence of ARI among toddlers in the working area of UPTD Kluet Selatan Public Health Center, South Aceh Regency. This study employed a quantitative analytical method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 169 toddlers, and a sample of 63 respondents was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed that 50 respondents (79.4%) were exposed to cigarette smoke at home, while 54 toddlers (85.7%) suffered from ARI. The bivariate analysis revealed a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant relationship between household cigarette smoke exposure and the incidence of ARI among toddlers. The study concluded that household cigarette smoke exposure is significantly associated with an increased incidence of ARI among toddlers. Therefore, community education regarding the harmful effects of smoking inside the home and the implementation of smoke-free households are recommended as preventive measures to reduce the incidence of ARI among toddlers.
