Abstract

As a country that has various types of creative industries such as the batik craft industry. Batik should be able to become one of the business fields that can support the economy (Nengsih et al., 2021). This is also what makes the government serious in managing batik crafts so that they can be used as superior products. The Jambi Batik industry is currently shrinking, one of the reasons is that most of the Jambi patterned batik circulating in the market is supplied from Java. This causes the price of Javanese Jambi batik to be more popular with the public because the price is cheaper. One of the strategies that can be applied to improve the performance of MSMEs is through the Comparative Advantage  approach (Porter, 1985). This strategy emphasizes the use of competitive advantages possessed by MSMEs in order to compete effectively in the market (Suryana A, Kartika R, 2022). To support the implementation of the Comparative Advantage strategy, this study adopts The House Model approach, which is a business development model based on competitive advantage. The House Model consists of several main elements, such as a strong business foundation, innovation strategy, resource management, and the role of stakeholders in supporting business growth (Nengsih et al, 2021 and Schmitz, 2007). The results of this study show that Jambi batik crafts can develop and compete with crafts in other batik centers by utilizing local and innovative materials to improve the quality and added value of Jambi batik, so that the results of these batik products have their own characteristics. Furthermore, from the Marketing side, it must also be based on local identity by not forgetting the use of digitalization to open up access to the global market.

Abstract

Poverty remains a major issue in Indonesia, including Malacca Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), despite the region’s strong natural resource potential. Cassava is one of Malacca Regency’s key commodities with significant potential to support local economic growth, yet cassava farmers generally remain poor and require targeted intervention. This study aims to examine the cassava supply chain management (SCM) system in Malacca Regency in order to identify an ideal management model that can support economic development and community welfare. The research uses a mixed-method sequential explanatory approach (Creswell, 2014), conducted in three phases, beginning with a preliminary survey to understand the characteristics of the cassava supply chain. The findings show that the cassava supply chain involves seven main actors: farmers, collector traders, small agents, large agents, retailers, modern markets, and consumers. The SCM system has generally operated effectively, with integrated relationships and good collaboration among actors from upstream to downstream, ensuring efficient distribution to consumers. However, farmers’ profits remain limited due to the long supply chain. The cassava supply chain includes three main flows—goods, money, and information—and overall has functioned well, enabling sustainable, long-term relationships among stakeholders.

Abstract

The existence of creativity-based MSMEs has significant potential for creating jobs, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, increasing regional income, strengthening local cultural identity, and contributing to overall economic growth through the utilization of human resources and creative ideas. The increasing number of MSMEs operating in the creative industry sector inevitably creates increasingly fierce competition. MSMEs must be able to improve their competitiveness and business performance through product innovation, marketing digitalization, and effective market orientation. The purpose of this study is to develop a model for improving the competitiveness and performance of MSMEs in the creative industry sector in Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, through three main constructs: digital marketing, product innovation, and market orientation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods by systematically compiling data/information obtained from field research in the form of interviews, field notes, and documentation. The data was organized into categories to facilitate analysis. The research informants consisted of creative industry business actors, local government officials, and digital marketing practitioners. The research results show that the creative industry in Southwest Sumba Regency has superior potential, especially in the craft sub-sector (woven fabrics, handicrafts, and jewelry made from beads and metal), which combines local cultural values with commercial aesthetics. However, business actors face challenges in expanding markets, improving product quality, and adopting effective digital marketing strategies. Adopting digital marketing and product innovation, combined with a strong market orientation, can improve the competitiveness and performance of MSMEs in Southwest Sumba Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of financial stress and financial management strategies employed by families with irregular incomes in Bangka Pau Village, South Lamba Leda District. A mixed-methods approach was used, collecting quantitative data through questionnaires and qualitative data through in-depth interviews. The results indicate that families' financial stress levels are high, primarily due to seasonal income uncertainty, fluctuations in the prices of basic necessities, and significant social and customary obligations. Facing these challenges, families employ simple financial management strategies, such as planning daily expenses, cutting non-priority expenses, and prioritizing basic needs and education costs. Furthermore, families rely on secondary income and social support through customary mechanisms such as arisan (social gatherings) and assistance from relatives. These findings suggest that families' financial adaptation strategies focus more on short-term sustainability and fulfilling customary obligations that cannot be postponed.
