Abstract

In this paper, the authors intend to investigate how women have been exploited in the world of mass media, particularly in this study, the advertising field. Numerous studies have surfaced in the past concerning this above issue, where researchers have published their statistics on the treatment of women in advertisements, which is by exploiting superficial qualities or characteristics of the female gender, merely for chasing profits and increasing value to male audiences. Common conscience would see that this is something which is shameful and should eventually be stopped. The society, as a whole, desperately needs to push for portrayal of women in advertisements to be more ethical, account for higher moral standards and help young women discover their talents, while rightfully receiving the recognition they deserve. From the findings of interviews conducted to a sample of respondents in Malaysia, it has been able to provide a localized perspective of this issue. Its findings serve to inform on the progress of women’s portrayal in Malaysia’s media. Also in the study, the authors will peg these issues surrounding women treatment to how a reform towards our education system can become a major step towards the obliteration of negative treatment of women in their careers.Keywords: exploitation, implications to education system, portrayal of women

Abstract

Indonesia sudah bergabung dalam Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN (MEA) sejak 31 Desember 2015. Ini menjadi salah satu peluang Indonesia untuk mempromosikan budaya yang dimilikinya ke luar negeri secara lebih mudah. Salah satu budaya tersebut adalah budaya Minangkabau yang tercermin dalam novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck karya Hamka. Pengenalan budaya melalui novel ke luar negeri dapat meningkatkan wisatawan ke Indonesia khususnya Sumatera Barat sebagai latar novel tersebut. Hal ini bisa memberikan kontribusi untuk ekonomi Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan budaya Minangkabau yang terdapat dalam novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck karya Hamka serta pemasarannya dalam konteks MEA. Penelitian ini dikaji dengan pendekatan antropologi sastra. Datanya berupa dialog atau narasi yang mengandung budaya Minangkabau. Ada tiga wujud kebudayaan yang terdapat dalam novel ini. Ketiga wujud kebudayaan itu ialah (1) wujud kebudayaan berupa norma dan peraturan, (2) wujud kebudayaan berupa aktivitas dan tindakan masyarakat, dan (3) wujud kebudayaan berupa benda-benda hasil karya manusia. Strategi pemasaran budaya Minangkabau dalam novel ini dapat dilakukan dengan cara adaptasi novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck karya Hamka kedalam bahasa Inggris atau berbagai bahasa di negara ASEAN.Kata kunci: keunikan, budaya Minangkabau, novel tenggelamnya kapal van der wijck, MEA

Abstract

Kampung Adat Cireundeu memiliki kebudayaan, kebiasaan, dan keyakinan yang sampai sekarang masih mereka pertahankan. Padahal kampung adat ini terletak tidak jauh dari kota Cimahi. Bagi masyarakat adat, ketiga aspek tersebut masih dianggap tabu dan sakral karena menyangkut public image mereka. Strategi yang cocok digunakan penutur untuk menghargai mereka adalah strategi kesantunan negatif. Strategi kesantunan negatif bertujuan untuk menghindari ancaman yang menghasilkan konflik karena penutur dan mitra tutur harus bertindak santun dalam berbahasa. Strategi ini hadir dari kesadaran penutur tentang adanya wajah negatif atau kemerdekaan mitra tutur. Karena itulah penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana upaya penutur dalam menjaga tuturannya saat menanyakan ketiga aspek pada masyarakat adat dan juga tanggapan mereka. Tujuan lainnya agar responden merasa dihargai dan dihormati serta mereka pun dapat menanggapi tuturan peneliti tanpa ada perasaan terkekang. Data diambil dari transkip rekaman wawancara berupa pertanyaan strategi kesantunan negatif dari penutur dan tanggapan mitra tutur. Tuturan penutur akan diklasifikasikan dalam startegi kesantunan negatif menurut Brown dan Levinson.Kata kunci: tindak tutur, public image, strategi kesantunan negatif, tanggapan mitra tutur

Abstract

Masyarakat Ekonomi Asean (MEA) mulai diterapkan. Dengan diterapkannya MEA, arus produk ekonomis, informasi, dan perdagangan akan masuk dengan cepat tiada batas. Indonesia diharapkan mampu menyiapkan sumber daya manusia yang ada. Modal utama yang dimiliki Indonesia adalah bahasa. Bahasa Indonesia dinyatakan sebagai bahasa persatuan dan lambang identitas nasional. Sebagai bahasa persatuan dan lambang identitas nasional bahasa Indonesia berperan dapat mengembangkan ilmu pengatahuan dan budaya Indonesia untuk diketahui masyakarat luas, terutama masyarakat ASEAN. Fenomena ini mengakibatkan pentingnya bahasa Indonesia dalam masyarakat ekonomi ASEAN, khususnya dalam bidang perdagangan. Metode yang digunakan untuk melakukan penelaahan adalah metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelaahan dilakukan dengan teknik analisis hermeneutik berdasarkan masalah. Hasil penelaahan membuktikan bahwa di era MEA bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa perdagangan  berperan untuk melakukan persuasif terhadap penjualan dan penawaran produk dan sebagai bahasa pengantar dalam melakukan teransaksi dan promosi. Kata Kunci: peran, bahasa Indonesia, perdagangan, Masyarakat Ekonomi Asean (MEA)

Abstract

This research was a quasi-experimental research with 2×3 factorial design aimed to find out the influence of learning model NHT with guided discovery learning and Jigsaw II with guided discovery learning for students’ mathematics achievement. The population of this study were all of the eleventh grade students of Junior High School in Karanganyar regency and sampling was done by stratified cluster random sampling. The data was collected by test, questionnaire, and documentation.The test of hypothesis used two-way analysis of variance with unequal cell, past analysis of variance with Scheffe’ method and significance level was 0.05. Based on hypothesis test, it could be concluded that (1) the learning model of Jigsaw II with guided discovery learning approach results students’ mathematics achivement better than NHT with guided discovery learning., (2) students’ mathematics achievement with the climbers type was as good as students’ mathematics achievement with the campers type, and students’ mathematics achievement with the campers type result better than students’ mathematics achievement the quitters type, (3) for each learning model, students’ mathematics achievement with the climbers type was as good as with students’mathematics achievement with the campers type, and students’ mathematics achievement the campers type result better than students’ mathematics achievement the quitters type, (4) for each category AQ, the learning model of Jigsaw II with guided discovery learning approach results better than students’ mathematics achivement learning model NHT with guided discovery learning.Keywords: Jigsaw II, Numbered Heads Together, Guided Discovery Learning, Adversity Quotient, Mathematics Achievement

Abstract

A descriptive study on students’ assumption about the relationship between learning styles and academic achievement. The aim of this study was to find out whether there is a relationship between learning styles and academic achievement. The writer used total sampling technique in collecting the data and questionnaire as the instrument of the study. The questionnaire was distributed to the sample that is all of the college of languages students of a Private University Semarang that are 62 students divided into two majors; education and literature programs. The writer tabulated the data using Microsoft excel and SPSS v.23.0 in order to know the results statistically. The results showed that the learning styles aspects had a relationship on the students’ academic achievement. It is proven by the statistical data of questionnaire’s Likert scale that most of the respondents give the response in scale of “4” which means the respondents agree with the statements on the questionnaire about the relationship between learning styles and academic achievement.Keywords: learning styles, academic achievement, students

Abstract

This research was a quasi-experimental research with a factorial design 2×3 aims to determine the comparison of Group Investigation (GI) with Assessment for Learning (AfL) through peer-assessment (GI-AfL-Peer) and TPS with AfL through peer-assessment (TPS-AfL-Peer) viewed from self confidence for student’s achievement in mathematics. The population of this research were all of Junior High School students 8th grade in Karanganyar Regency schools in academic year 2016/2017. Research samples obtained by stratified cluster random sampling. The data was collected by using methods of documentation, students’ self confidence questionnaires, and mathematics achievement test. Data analysis technique used two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with unequal cell. According to research result, it could be concluded that: (1) students’ mathematics achievement which applied GI-AfL-Peer better than TPS-AfL-Peer, (2) mathematics achievement of students with high self confidence better than students’ with medium and low self confidence, and mathematics achievement of students’ with medium self confidence as good as students with low self confidence, (3) in each category of self confidence, students’ mathematics achievement which applied GI-AfL-Peer better than TPS-AfL-Peer, (4) in each learning model, mathematics achievement of students with high self confidence better than students’ with medium and low self confidence, and mathematics achievement of students’ with medium self confidence as good as students with low self confidence.Keywords: AfL, GI, peer-assessment, self confidence, students’ mathematics achievement, TPS

Abstract

 The use of technology in subtitling practices reaches its peak nowadays. A number of tools have been used to maximize the quality of audiovisual/screen translation and to have the translation works done more efficiently. One of the tools is AEGISUB software. This software is popular among fansub translators as a free tool to help produce the desirable subtitles. This study reviews the use of AEGISUB software in a classroom project of subtitling course. By using the classroom observation method during the course, the researchers recorded and reviewed the applications of the software conducted by the students. Based on the observation, the students performed the intended procedures to create subtitles of the target text. By applying the software, the students learned well how to deal with technical shortage as well as linguistic barriers of verbal communication. Keywords: AEGISUB software, Subtitling

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to: 1) to determine the digital media-based learning Microsoft Access on the subjects of archives in an effort to improve the learning outcomes of students office administration SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta. 2) Determine the effectiveness of digital media-based learning Microsoft Access on the subjects of archives in an effort to improve the learning outcomes of students office administration SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta. This study is a research and development (R & D). This media development Hannafin and Peck. The subject of limited testing done for the nine students of class X AP and large scale trials conducted for thirty students of class X AP 1 in SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta. The analysis technique used descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The results showed that: (1) the media developed already worthy and qualified to be used. (2) effectiveness is find that tstatistic> ttable = (3.26> 2.00), then H0 is rejected, it means that the two groups have different learning achievement scores. Results posttest between the experimental class (using the media developed) with a control class (do not use the media developed) shows that the average value obtained by the experimental class is 80.59, the average value is higher than the control class 77, 97. The conclusion of this research is the development of digital media-based learning Microsoft Access considered effective in improving student learning outcomes office administration SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta. Keywords: Development, Digital Learning, Archive, Office Administration, Innovation in Education.

Abstract

Dunia modern saat ini telah memasuki era ekonomi kreatif. Di era ekonomi kreatif teknologi informasi dibutuhkan sebagai sarana untuk mempengaruhi masyarakat. Terknologi tersebut digunakan untuk mempromosikan produk. Melalui promosi produk diharapkan dapat dapat mendorong para pelaku industri untuk menciptakan pola kerja, pola produksi dan pola pemasaran yang mengutamakan daya tarik konsumen. Hal ini menciptakan hubungan saling ketergantungan antarpelaku dunia usaha untuk mendorong semua industri agar lebih aktif, kreatif dan produktif dalam pemasaran produk. Pada bidang pemasaran, daya kreatif periklanan produk akan menjadi faktor yang dapat menarik minat konsumen untuk membeli produk tersebut. Oleh karena itu, para pelaku dunia usaha yang ingin memasarkan produknya harus mampu menghasilkan ide-ide yang dapat menarik minat konsumen. Ide-ide yang menarik dapat tersalurkan melalui bahasa. Bahasa yang digunakan berupa tuturan persuasif. Tuturan persuasif berfungsi untuk mempengaruhi konsumen untuk melihat lebih mendalam mengenai produk yang ditawarkan. Hal ini dapat meningkatkan laba pelaku industri apabila tuturan persuaif mampu membuat konsumen tertarik dan membeli produk.Kata kunci: interpretasi, tuturan persuasif, ekonomi kreatif
