Abstract

Berangkat dari true story penulis yang pernah mengajar selama dua tahun di pedalaman papua. Permasalahan yang mendasar sangat penting saat pertama masuk mengajar di SD Inpres Poga adalah siswa tidak bisa baca. Kendala yang dihadapi dilapangan ialah siswa tidak datang sekolah disebabkan rumah siswa jauh dari sekolah, ada kegiatan pembagian dana atau duka (proses kebumi orang meninggal), selain itu juga siswa datang sekolah dalam satu minggu hanya dua sampai tiga kali. Berdasarkan keprihatinan akan permasalahan dan kendala yang dihadapi, inovasi kata kunci untuk mengejar target baca siswa. Penggunaan kata familiar yang biasa didengar oleh siswa dengan tulisan warna membantu mengejar target baca siswa. Kata familiar berasal dari kata yang biasa diucapkan dan dilihat sebagai contoh duka dan batu. Kata familiar erat kaitanya dengan budaya dan kearifan lokal pada masyarakat tertentu.Kata kunci: Baca, Inovasi, Kata Familiar, Tiga Warna

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi buku teks apresiasi puisi yang digunakan di perguruan tinggi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif diskriptif. Hasil survei buku teks apresiasi puisi yang digunakan perguruan tinggi di Jawa Tengah dan Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta dapat disimpulkan bahwa belum ada buku teks yang ditulis oleh dosen pengampu. Buku teks yang digunakan di Universitas Widya Dharma Klaten yaitu Pengkajian dan Apresiasi Puisi, Pengkajian Puisi, Puisi Lama dan Puisi Baru, Krikil Tadjam dan Jang Terempas dan Jang Putus, Laut Biru, O Amuk Kapak, Simphoni, Wajah Tak Bernama karya Sitor Situmorang; Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo adalah  Pengkajian dan Apresiasi puisi, Pengkajian Puisi, Puisi Lama dan Puisi Baru, Wacana Musikalisasi Puisi, Kitab Bahasa Indonesia; Universitas Veteran Bangun Nusantara Sukoharjo adalah Pengkajian dan Apresiasi Puisi; Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta adalah Pengkajian dan Apresiasi Puisi, Berkenalan dengan Puisi, Stilistika; Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Yogyakarta adalah Pengkajian dan Apresiasi Puisi, Berkenalan dengan Puisi, Pengkajian Puisi; Universitas Sarjanawiyata Taman Siswa Yogyakarta adalah Pengkajian dan Apresiasi puisi, Pengkajian Puisi. Buku yang digunakan enam universitas tersebut adalah buku teks apresiasi puisi yang isi dan kajiannya sudah baik tetapi buku apresiasi puisi belum mengaitkan kajian pendidikan karakter di dalamnya, karena pembelajaran apresiasi puisi cocok dikaitkan dengan pendidikan karakter guna mencetak mahasiswa yang berkarakter unggul. Kata kunci : Kondisi, Buku Teks, Apresiasi Puisi

Abstract

Internationalization is an important feature of a reputable university. In their mission to internationalize the campus population, universities often admit students from other countries into their programmes. This does not come without challenges especially in situation where students are different in their language backgrounds. The situation is more challenging when the language of instruction is also a foreign language to the local students. This study was conducted to find the reasons for the difficulties faced when communicating with each other between the local and international students at a public university in Malaysia. The students were observed and interviewed for the study. The difficulties in communicating were attributed to many reasons, which include native language interference, use of local variety of the language and students’ lack of confidence in using the language.Keywords: communication, interaction, internationalization

Abstract

In relation to the mission of the school, the graduate computer network engineering students of Bina Utama Vocational High School Kendal are expected to be educated competent labors who are digital literate and able to communicate in using foreign language. This quality standard graduate can be accomplished through the teaching English in the classroom. Furthermore, in the future, the graduate students will get additional benefit when they are certified and licensed in the field of computer network engineering that requires both vocational and English mastery. Hopefully, teacher can hold effective and proportional English learning process between theory and practice so that students can easily communicate using English as well as to compete with others from other countries in their future work especially to face ASEAN Economic Community Market. One way to create efficient English learning process is by bringing authentic materials in class. According to Wallace (1992:145) and Peacock (1997) in Berardo (2006), they describe authentic materials as real life materials which are not produced purposely to be used in the classroom but they can become the helpful learning material for students in completing some social purpose of the language community. The authentic materials are used in order to introduce English language in social context for the tenth grade students for recognizing some particular terms in the computer network engineering field. The results will show us the authentic based material which can be applied in syllabus of computer network engineering program especially in procedural text.Keywords: authentic material, syllabus, computer network engineering, vocational high school

Abstract

 Bahasa Indonesia memiliki peran yang penting dalam dunia pendidikan. Selain sebagai bahasa pengantar di dunia pendidikan Indonesia, bahasa Indonesia juga harus dikuasai oleh calon guru SD dalam kaitannya terhadap penguasaan keterampilan berbahasa. Bahasa Indonesia memiliki empat aspek keterampilan yaitu menyimak, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis. Keempat aspek tersebut berkaitan satu sama lain. Melihat hal tersebut multimedia interaktif sebagai media dalam pembelajaran keterampilan berbahasa Indonesia sangat membantu mahasiswa untuk belajar. Dengan multimedia interaktif, mahasiswa dapat belajar tidak hanya secara teoritik namun juga praktik dengan adanya contoh di dalam multimedia interaktif. Multimedia interaktif merupakan media  yang mengintegrasikan berbagai unsure seperti teks, audio, gambar, video, dan animasi sehingga akan membuat mahasiswa lebih tertarik untuk belajar bahasa Indonesia baik pembelajaran klasikal yang diajar dosen menggunakan multimedia interaktif maupun belajar secara mandiri dengan multimedia interaktif. Abstract

One of the keys to compete in tourism aspect among AEC (Asean Economic Community) members is by raising the capability of tourism human capital. In line with this effort, it is important to make a betterment in teaching English for tour guides. However, sometimes the facilitators ignore their learners’ real need in learning. Here, in the area of EOP (English for Occupational Purposes), as part of ESP (English for Specific Purposes) category, it requires suitable materials during the teaching learning process. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the need of 20 prospective tour guides of Desa Menari, located in Tanon, Ngrawan Village, Getasan Sub Regency, Semarang Regency, Indonesia, where a half of them were teenagers, in experiencing better English. To support the information, there were two college learners as the facilitators. This study belongs to descriptive qualitative. The data was gathered through open questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The result shows that the most of the learners needed to maximize their speaking skill in order to be able in communicating with foreign tourists for example those who came from Singapore, Philippine, Korea, Japan, Egypt, and Italia. Besides, among the language elements, vocabulary became the highest priority to be improved. It is suggested that the recommended materials were greeting, introduction, and purposive conversation dealing with the questions which were commonly delivered by the foreign tourists. To conclude, need analysis is significant to be performed as it will contribute to the learners’ competencies directly and the financial development in the tourism village indirectly.Keyword: EOP-ESP, need analysis, tour guide

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to know the effect of teaching method, student’s schema through reading comprehension on facing of Asean Economic Community. To collect the data, the writer persuade two techniques on teaching English, they are conventional and contextual technique. The method used in this research is quantitative research by using a survey method and correlation technique. The method and the technique have intention to know the correlation among dependent variable (Y), it is Reading comprehension while teaching method (A), and Student’s Schema (B) as the two of independent variables. The characteristics of the descriptive method are to give the existence of the data, straight to the problems and the recent variables aren’t manipulated by the writer. Furthermore, the writer got the data by giving short and simple of reading comprehension exercise to the participants. The writer got some findings about the effect of teaching method and student’s schema through reading comprehension. Based on the teaching method by using SQ3R found that Fh = 18.683 that is higher than Ft = 3,15 and the student’s schema is Fh = 38.163, that is also higher than Ft = 3,15. So, the result of reading comprehension score through contextual method (SQ3RR) and student’s schema have high significant score than conventional method. Finally, we may say that there is the different effect between contextual method and conventional method. Keywords: Teaching technique, SQ3R, Student’s schema, Reading Comprehension

Abstract

 Rumah tradisional uma Lengge merupakan rumah peninggalan nenek moyang suku Mbojo yang berada di Bima, Nusa Tenggara Barat. Seiring dengan kemajuan zaman, uma Lengge tidak lagi dijadikan tempat tinggal, melainkan hanya digunakan untuk menyimpan hasil perkebunan. Dewasa ini uma Lengge juga telah menjadi salah satu destinasi wisata di Nusa Tenggara Barat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Adapun sampel dalam penelitian ini dipilih rumah tradisional uma Lengge yang berada di Desa Maria kecamatan wawo. Hasil penelitian ini berupa deskriprif tentang bahan, bentuk, fungsi uma lengge ialah sebagai tempat tinggal dan menyimpan hasil perkebunan, melindungi dari binatang buas dan melindungi dari cuaca tropis, serta keterkaitannya dengan tata nilai-nilai sosial masyarakat Mbojo yaitu nilai gotong royong, musyawarah, tolong menolong dan silaturrahmi. Dengan ditemukan berbagai keunikan dari uma lengge, diharapkan dapat menarik perhatian masyarakat luas secara umum dan masyarakat Mbojo secara khusus untuk tetap menjaga keberadaan uma Lengge serta dapat dijadikan destinasi wisata budaya yang bisa lebih banyak  menarik wisatawan lokal maupun asing. Kata kunci: Mbojo, Rumah Tradisional, Uma Lengge

Abstract

Sejak diberlakukan Kurikulum 2013 yang berbasis teks, sebagian materi pembelajaran mengalami perubahan tak terkecuali dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di tingkat sekolah menengah pertama. Siswa dituntut untuk menguasai empat aspek kebahasaan dan kesastraan yaitu keterampilan memyimak, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis. Berdasarkan hasil observasi yang dilakukan penulis di kelas VII-B SMP Negeri 5 Kediri, penulis menemukan contoh penerapan keterampilan menulis yang dilakukan siswa dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi. Dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi, guru menggunakan metode ceramah dalam menyampaikan materi struktur teks beserta jenis-jenis teks eksposisi. Selama proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode ini, awalnya siswa sangat antusias mengikuti materi demi materi  yang disampaikan oleh guru, namun karena siswa hanya menyimak saja dan tidak ada aktifitas apapun makan dapat dikatakan pembelajaran ini cenderung membosankan. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan sebagian siswa mengantuk dan lebih asyik sendiri berbicara dengan teman yang lain. Ini menjadi persoalan yang harus segera diatasi oleh guru, terutama guru bahasa Indonesia agar lebih kreatif dan inovatif dalam pembelajaran. Hal ini dapat dilakukan dengan cara menggunakan model-model pembelajaran yang kini sudah lebih mudah di akses oleh guru, serta menggunakan media pembelajaran yang sebagian sudah disiapkan oleh sekolah. Tentu saja dengan memaksimalkan sarana dan prasarana yang ada guru dapat membuat pembelajaran lebih menarik lagi agar terciptas suasana yang menyenangkan agar siswa antusias dalam mengikuti proses pembelajaran yang tujuannya siswa dapat lebih memahami materi yang diajarkan oleh guru. Kata Kunci: Kurikulum 2013, Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, Teks Eksposisi, Metode Ceramah

Abstract

Some teachers find they have limited chance to do formal professional development program such as classroom observation, classroom research, and even training program to improve their knowledge and skill in teaching. However, teachers nowadays look for the information from the internet for their professional development, like Facebook pages for ELT. Teachers use it as an alternative source to improve their professionalism. This present study investigated about advantages of using Facebook pages for English teachers’ professional development. Quantitative method was conducted by the researcher in this study. Moreover, 35 English teachers were selected purposively. They were given a questionnaire and some open-ended questions. The results show that English teachers got many advantages from Facebook pages, such as for their overall professional development as English teachers, their practice in classroom and their collaboration with others. That is why; teachers should be selective in choosing Facebook pages to be followed and filtered the material they adapt from this page.Keywords: Professional development, English teachers, English language teaching, Facebook pages.
