Abstract

The research aims to obtain the professional development model needs of teachers in mastering digital technology to improve the quality of education. Technology development in education has forced all parties to integrate various educational activities according to current conditions. The research method used mixed research involving qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Data were collected through a survey which was completed with observation and interviews. Analysis of qualitative data is in the form of narrative through data reduction, data presentation, and concluding stages. In contrast, quantitative data is the result of digital technology needs presented in percentages. The analysis results show that digital technology is still not fully used in teaching and learning activities. This also impacts teachers' understanding of the technology application model in schools and students' achievement.

Abstract

This research was conducted to develop a learning model by using the ADDIE model. The problem-Based STAD learning model was designed by Analysis, Design, Development or Production, Implementation or Delivery, and Evaluations. This research was done in the English Language Education Study Program of the University of Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai in Writing II. Based on the result of data analysis, it can be concluded that 1) The Problem-based STAD Type Learning Model has been produced through the ADDIE development model. 2) Problem-based STAD Type Learning Model that has met the criteria of validity. 3) The model is valid with the characteristics of the suitability of the research model development with the ADDIE procedure. English teachers can use this model to improve students’ skills in writing and motivate the students in writing English text.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of learning outcomes before and after being taught by practicum-based inquiry learning.  Moreover, to analyze students' science process skills through practicum-based inquiry learning at SMA Negeri 1 Sukamakmur, Aceh Besar, Indonesia. The research was started with the preparation of learning outcomes test instruments and scientific process skills observation sheets.  Furthermore, the two instruments were validated by two expert validations. The data analyzed are quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data is in the form of learning outcomes data, while qualitative data from this study are from observations of science process skills. Learning outcomes data using statistical tests used to process learning outcomes data is the average difference test, namely the t-test. In contrast, the Science Process Skills data uses the percentage formula. This research is pre-experimental research with a one-group pretest and post-test design. Data analysis of learning outcomes was carried out using paired t-test, while science process skills used the percentage formula. The results showed that the average pretest score of students in understanding the material was still low, while the average post-test score was much better. The pretest value is 47.83, while the post-test value is 76.28. In addition, normalization and homogeneity of data are also necessary. Based on the calculations, the normal results were obtained at the X-hit 3.85 and the post-test value of the normal data with the X-hit value 4.77. After the data is normally distributed, it is necessary to test the homogeneity of the data. If you look at the data homogeneity, it is found that the experimental and control classes are homogeneous with an F-hit of 1.25, which tells that the class has the same or homogeneous variance. The value of thit = 4.03 ttable = 2.1. Thus it can be concluded that the cognitive learning outcomes of students taught using practicum-based inquiry learning are higher than conventional methods. This research shows that practicum-based inquiry learning does improve not only cognitive learning outcomes but also effective ones.

Abstract

Project-based learning (PBL) has gained popularity in education recently. This teaching method provides opportunities for students to learn independently by doing group works in the form of a project. It is seen as a suitable method to teach EFL to replace the traditional ways of teaching. Thus, this case study explores the students' and teachers' experience implementing PBL in the EFL class. Three EFL classes from three different high schools in Indonesia were observed to explore this issue. Six students and three teachers were interviewed to confirm the observation’s result and determine their perception of learning using PBL. The findings show that the class situation improved positively after implementing PBL. Furthermore, PBL was well perceived by both students and teachers. The teaching and learning process went smoothly and well-controlled. The students and teachers show positive perceptions toward PBL in EFL classes. However, some negative points of PBL were also pointed out. Thus, educational sectors may use this study's results to improve the educational quality, specifically for EFL classes.

Abstract

This study describes the profile of vocational high school students' metacognitive abilities in mathematics problem solving based on their logical thinking abilities. This research was conducted using descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach. The data was collected using a logical thinking ability test and problem-solving test and. Three students were selected who met different logical thinking stages: the abstract operation stage, the transition stage, and the concrete operational stage. The results showed the subject of the abstract operation stage fulfilled the metacognition stage by re-describing the given problem, knowing the relationship between what was known and what was asked, working on the problem by writing down what was known and asked and entering into the formula and also checking the answer. Transition stage subjects fulfill the metacognition stage by describing initial information and instructions, performing problem-solving steps, and counting to check completed work. The subject of concrete operations fulfills the metacognition stage by stating information and instructions that are non-specific and detailed. The subject has not been able to state the proper steps to ensure the information's conformity with the problem, and the subject sees what is done by calculating.
