Abstract

In a world where bilingualism is prevalent, people often naturally use code-mixing and code-switching as expressive tools in their language activities. This research aims to analyze the types of code-mixing and code-switching, the reasons for their use, and the matrix language in the interview between Maudy Ayunda and Robert on Perspektif Metro TV. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data obtained from the conversation between Maudy Ayunda and Robert. Using a qualitative approach and non-invasive observation techniques, the data were analyzed based on Hoffman's theory of code-mixing and code-switching. The results indicate that the speakers employed three types of code-mixing (intra-sentential, intra-lexical, and changes in pronunciation) and two types of code-switching (inter-sentential and establishing continuity with the previous speaker). The motivations for using these codes included discussing specific topics, quoting someone, emphasizing points, repeating for clarification, and explaining content to the interlocutor. Code-mixing was used more frequently than code-switching. In conclusion, Indonesian served as the matrix language and English as the embedded language in the instances of code-mixing and code-switching observed. The findings have significant implications for the education field, particularly in multilingual and bilingual settings. Recognizing and integrating code-mixing and code-switching as legitimate and beneficial linguistic practices can enhance language learning by creating an inclusive environment where students feel comfortable using multiple languages. Educators can leverage these practices to improve engagement, comprehension, and expression in complex subjects, fostering a deeper understanding and better communication skills among students. Future research should investigate these phenomena across diverse contexts and larger samples to further validate and extend these findings, thereby enriching bilingual education strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a problem-based learning (PBL) model incorporating a culturally responsive teaching (CRT) approach, with the objective of enhancing creative thinking skills and fostering globally diverse dispositions among primary school students. The research employed a quasi-experimental design, specifically a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Participants included 26 students from a fifth-grade class at a public primary school in Bogor City, divided into experimental and control groups selected through purposive sampling. The implementation of the learning model was monitored using observation sheets, while the assessment of creative thinking skills was conducted using a descriptive test covering four key indicators: fluency, originality, flexibility, and elaboration. Additionally, global diversity dispositions were measured through questionnaires, and student feedback was gathered using both questionnaires and student-produced magazines. Observations indicated that the PBL-CRT model was implemented with full fidelity, achieving 100% adherence to the planned instructional steps. Analysis of creative thinking outcomes revealed that the experimental group exhibited a high N-Gain score, significantly outperforming the control group, which was categorized in the moderate range. Furthermore, the experimental group demonstrated a superior global diversity disposition, with a difference of 11.34% compared to the control group. Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with questionnaire responses falling into the "very good" category, and student magazine content reflecting favorable reactions to the CRT approach.

Abstract

The focus of the research aims to analize the role of Muhammadiyah Pesantrens in instilling the sense of patriotism for the prevention of terrorism. The study is designed with a qualitative setting using a phenomenological approach to understand individuals' experiences and perceptions of the concept of love for their homeland, and a constructivist approach to understand how pesantrens actively initiate and implement programs to strengthen such attitudes. The data collected through observation and interview. The findings of the research indicate several preventive measures taken by Muhammadiyah pesantrens in strengthening the love for the homeland to prevent the spread of terrorism seeds such as education moderate and progressive Islamic value, cultivation of national character, and teaching of understanding the danger of terrorism. These measures include embedding education with progressive moderate Islamic values. This is realized by developing a curriculum based on moderate, tolerant, and inclusive Islamic values. Moderate Islam is a humanistic Islam that can accommodate everyone, from various social strata, ethnicities, and religions; tolerance is a fundamental value in Islam; inclusive education is the educational service provided by Muhammadiyah pesantrens, which does not discriminate based on skin color, ethnicity, religion, race, or social group. Another step is the cultivation of national character among the santri, which involves reinforcing knowledge of local history and culture based on Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah principles. A relevant future study would be to investigate the causes of the emergence of anti-diversity attitudes and hardline Islam found in some pesantrens in Indonesia.

Abstract

Self-awareness allows individuals to be more aware of how they respond to lodge policies and regulations. They will be better able to be aware of these policies and regulations in influencing their behavior, attitudes, thought patterns, and competency development. This research explores the role of self-awareness in mediating the influence of Islamic boarding school policies and regulations and competency development. Quantitative methods with PLS-SEM analysis were used to test the feasibility of discriminant validity and research hypotheses. Data was collected through a questionnaire with 50 students at the Al-Idris Islamic Boarding School, Banyudono, Ponorogo using the purposive sampling method. The results of the analysis show that Islamic boarding school policies have a significant positive effect on self-awareness (β=0.521; ρ=0.000) and competency development (β=0.295; ρ=0.014). Furthermore, self-awareness was proven not to mediate the influence of policies (β=0.125; ρ=0.103) and Islamic boarding school regulations (β=0.075; ρ=0.129) on the competency development of students. The research results show that student self-awareness is strongly influenced by Islamic boarding school policies and regulations, which in turn support the development of student Competency. The implications of this study show the importance of education that focuses on developing students' self-awareness as part of efforts to prepare them to participate actively in society. The suggestion from this study is that Islamic boarding school education should focus more on developing self-awareness as a strategic step in developing their competency.

Abstract

Student satisfaction refers to the level of contentment experienced by students regarding various aspects of their educational experience, including the quality of academic services and student trust in development opportunities. This satisfaction is an essential indicator of educational institutions' success in meeting students' expectations and needs. This study aims to analyze and understand the determinants of student trust and the quality of educational services (tangible, empathy, reliability, responsiveness, assurance) on student satisfaction at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FKIP) of Pattimura University, Ambon. This study adopts a quantitative approach to explore the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Utilizing a simple random sample, every member of the population has an equal chance of being selected from the 120 respondents analyzed using SPSS version 27. The hypothesis testing shows that Student Trust, Tangible, Reliability, Responsiveness, and Assurance were accepted; Empathy was rejected. Independent variables influence 56.1% of the dependent variable. The abstract's conclusion states that the independent variables explain 56.1% of the variation in the dependent variable, student satisfaction. Elaborate slightly on what this implies about the relationship between service quality dimensions and student satisfaction.
