Abstract

A study was conducted that aims to analyze the impact of Covid-19 on the income, expenditure, and marketing of catfish hatchery business, especially in Baros District, Serang Regency, Banten. This study used the direct data collection techniques, field observations and interviews with 12 (twelve) catfish hatcheries in December 2021. Secondary data came from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for Baros District in 2019-2020. The results showed that 50% of respondents experienced a decrease in income during the Covid-19 pandemic. The decrease in revenue from the catfish hatchery during Covid-19 ranged from 12.50 - 66.67% compared to the income before the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, farmers' expenditures have increased due to rising feed prices. Expenditure on feed prices by the highest cultivators is IDR 8,060,000 and the lowest is IDR 880,000 per cycle. The costs incurred are based on the type of feed in hatchery activities, namely Tubifex sp. by 33%, fengli by 12%, pf 500 by 19%, pf 800 by 17%, pf 1000 by 19% during one cycle. The size of catfish seeds sold is 2-7 cm with a price range of IDR 100 - 200 per head. Catfish farmers are experiencing difficulties in marketing their seeds due to restrictions on mobility during the pandemic. Changes in consumer behavior have resulted in a decrease in direct buying interest.

Abstract

There are several factors that affect the selectivity of gillnet, including mesh size and twine thickness of netting. The objective of this study is to estimate the level of selectivity of different mesh size and twine thickness on the dominant catch of bottom gillnets. The fishing experiment conducted in Inner Ambon Bay for 9 fishing trips. Data analysis used Kitahara method’s to estimate the selectivity of the mesh size of 3.81, 4,45 and 5.08 cm with twine thickness of netting 0.25 and 0.30 mm to the total length of the dominant catch. The results showed that there are two species of fish dominated catch i.e Upeneus taniopterus dan Selar crumenophthalmus. The frequency distribution of total length of the dominant catch from three mesh sizes tested for both 0.25 and 0.30 mm twine diameter tends to be bimodal, where the 0.25 mm is caught higher than 0.30 mm twine diameter. The probability of the catch of small and large fish for each mesh size was higher at 0.25 mm than 0.30 mm twine diameter.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the microbiological contents of ice used and its effect on mackerel tuna (Auxis thazard) and to determine the amount of microbiological contents of mackerel tuna (Auxis thazard) kept with different sources of ice. This research was conducted in February - April 2020 by adopting experimental design. The microbiological parameters included Total Plate Count (TPC), Coliform, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella, all of which were carried out in laboratory. The data obtained were presented in form of tables and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the three ices used for storage did not contain Escherichia coli and Salmonella, but did contain TPC and Coliform. The highest TPC and Coliform contents of the three sources of ice was found in ice A with TPC value at incubation temperatures of 22ºC: 62 colonies / 100mL and 37ºC: 107 colonies / 100mL. The Coliform value on ice A was also the highest, which was too much to count. In addition, the results showed that mackerel tuna kept using three different sources of ice did not contain Coliform, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella. However, fish that had not been kept in ice (0 hours) and fish that had been kept in ice all contained TPC, with the highest TPC content of 1.5 x 103 colonies / 100g found in fish kept in ice B. The results showed that mackerel tuna kept in those three different ices were still safe for consumption after storage of 6 hours.
