Abstract

Quality of work life is an important concept that determines happiness in human life as well as job satisfaction that supports to increased motivation, organizational commitment, and work productivity. One factor that affects the level of job satisfaction is job fairness. Distributive and procedural justice are strong predictors of the fairness felt by employees. The intervention aims to increase fairness and job satisfaction through job evaluations that produce job grading as the beginning of the reward management system. This intervention is also an implementation of the concept of quality of work life that will be applied in the company. This study applies an action research using quantitative and qualitative methods at the same time (mix-method). A total of 79 job holders in 13 divisions at a head office became participants. In the pre-assessment stage, measurement of quality of work life is carried out, in the assessment stage, job satisfaction and job fairness measurements are taken. The results revealed that in the intervention stage a job description is reviewed as part of the job analysis and job evaluation using the Hay method to produce job grading can significantly increase the mechanisms of rewards system. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract

This study aims to characterize the profile of entrepreneurs from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and core business employees in Surakarta, one of the heritage city in Indonesia. The characteristics examined in this study are the need for achievement, locus of control, tolerance for ambiguity, creativity/innovation, self-confidence, propensity to risk, and a sense of self-sufficiency/freedom. This study also attempts to determine the distinguishing characteristics between entrepreneurs and core business employees. Forty core business employees and thirty-six entrepreneurs were selected using purposive sampling method and questionnaires as the research instruments. Data testing was performed using descriptive statistical analysis methods and independent sample t-test to examine the differences in the characters reflected in the sample studied. The test results indicate that there are significant differences between entrepreneur and core business employees in their character, including the need for achievement, ambiguity tolerance, creativity/innovation, propensity to risk, and a sense of self-sufficiency/freedom. However, there is no significant difference in the character of self-confidence and locus of control. In addition, descriptive statistical tests show that entrepreneurs have a higher mean score on all aspects of the characteristics than core business employees.

Abstract

The role of company boards as well as it composition in the diversity issues (i.e gender) are very important to make strategic corporate decision. This paper investigates the determinant of corporate risk taking through the size of board and the existence of gender diversity on boardrooms. Focusing on the boards in the non-financial companies, there were 262 companies from period of 2013 to 2016 could be analyzed based on certain criteria. The result of multiple regression analysis showed that the corporate risk taking positively influenced by board size. In contrary, the gender diversity has small negatively effect on corporate risk taking. It suggested that the greater size of the board will increase the volatility of ROA, but the presence of female on boards tends to decrease the volatility of ROA. This paper contributes to the development of theory in the fields of corporate financial management in term of risk taking and lastly. this study also documented that the importance of determining the proportion between male and female boards, as a way to scheming appropriate board composition in company.

Abstract

This study seeks to fill a gap (gap) is to integrate human resource competencies, and a culture of innovation in improving organizational performance and competitiveness, especially in the Economics Higher Education Institutes (STIE) in East Java.The study population was the whole STIE in East Java as it listed in LLDIKTI who has at least 50% of study program accredited "B from BAN PT (body of national accreditation) resulting 11 STIE. This study used a sample of saturated (census) on the grounds that the number of population in this study include small , Respondents from the entity unit examined in STIE institution is the Chairman, Vice Chairman I (Academic Affairs) and Chairman of the Program. with a total of as many as 49 (the Forty-Nine) man.Results of testing the hypothesis can be explained: Competence of human resources has a positive impact on organizational performance and exhibited significantly STIE. The results of this study indicate that the first hypothesis (H1) is accepted; Competence of human resources through a culture of innovation has a positive impact on organizational performance and exhibited significantly STIE These results indicate that the second hypothesis (H2) is received. Organizational performance and exhibited significantly have a positive effect on the competitiveness of STIE The results of this study indicate that the third hypothesis (H3) is received.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the impact of service quality on word of mouth (WOM) and repurchase intention mediated by customer satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach: This cross-sectional study was conducted in all branches of Bank BPD Bali in Bali involving 91 Western Union customers at Bank BPD Bali as respondents. The research hypothesis was tested using a second order model processed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis techniques with PLS software. Findings: Satisfaction has "tired" itself as a mediating buffer of quality of service to build loyalty or intention to buy back and word of mouth positive. The evidence shows, service quality has a positive and significant effect on word of mouth and repurchase intention, but satisfaction fails to mediate the effect of service quality on word of mouth and repurchase intention. Customer satisfaction does not affect word of mouth and repurchase intention Practical/implications: Service quality programs must be able to consider other effects besides satisfaction to build word of mouth and repurchase intention. Satisfaction is dynamic and difficult to maintain when competition is getting tougher.

Abstract

This study explores and identifies the precise measurement of perceived sacredness of Indonesian tourist’s perceived sacredness on their pilgrimage journey. Indonesia is a unique country which is having more than five major religions adopted by its population, thus we suggested they have a different perception of sacredness on spiritual destination. The methodology used in this study are using culture-based construct design to identify the items and indicators that could measure the Indonesian tourist’s perceived sacredness. Thirteen items were identified, but only eight items were accepted as a valid and reliable measurement of the Indonesian tourist’s perceived sacredness. Three indicators could be built from the items, they are (1) Spiritual Attractiveness, (2) Historic Spiritual Value, and (3) Spiritual Activities. The finding(s) on this research could be used for future research, especially to examining the relationship between perceived sacredness toward the Indonesian tourist’s behavior.

Abstract

The high ratio of problematic financing or Non-Performing Finance (NPF) at Islamic banks is a phenomenon that needs attention because it is one indicator to assess the soundness of Islamic banks. The causative factors could be two-way, first, the internal factors in Islamic banking itself; the principle of prudence in channeling financing; and second, external factors. Economic data indicated a slowdown in global economic growth became a negative sentiment on the financial markets; one of the consequences was the weakening of the customer ability to meet their obligations would be increasing the ratio of problem financing (NPF). The purpose of this study is to analyze and identify the relationship between macro variables Gross Domestic Product (GDP), exchange rate, and inflation with NPF at Sharia Banks in Indonesia 2009: Q1 to 2018: Q4. This research is a quantitative study with the data analysis method used Auto-regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) to analyze the relationship between independent variables on the dependent variable in the long term and short term. The result is that GDP has a negative and significant effect on NPF both in the long term and short term. In comparison, the exchange rate and inflation have a positive and significant effect on the NPF in the short run but have no significant effect in the long run.

Abstract

Anticipating dramatic growth in the country’s e-commerce market, Thailand’s government initiated the PromptPay system for online retailers. However, many consumers have not yet signed up for the service, and small vendors tend not offer PromptPay as a payment option. This study aimed to understand the factors that affect online retailers’ intention to utilize PromptPay when selling their products on social media. An online questionnaire was used to collect data for quantitative analysis from 247 respondents who were individual merchants selling products or services on social media. The results showed that although use of online payment systems was universal among the respondents, most used direct money transfers, and only 18% of participants used PromptPay. Security, effort expectation, and social influence have a statistically significant influence on the intention to use PromptPay, whereas privacy and performance are not significant factors. These findings could particularly inform efforts by Thailand’s government and banks to ensure that online retailers feel confident adapting this service into their payment systems.

Abstract

No one in the world are expecting this Covid-19 pandemic, impacting mostly on the healthy issue, economic issue, social issue and much more that human being never thought about it. In the white cellar worker, working from home now is a necessity, not just about bringing work to home but many issues raise during this working condition. One of the issues raises is about productivity. For workers that used to work remotely using technology they don’t feel any issues, however, on the others hand for those just enter this new work style, it might be a problem. Telecommuting work have been getting popularity in the late 1980s, mostly this way of work is in respond to many issues in the develop country. As it may too early to conclude where telecommuting and work from home is an apple to apple comparison, as far as the research done in the past, it may can be concluded that  the essence is the same. However, little research have been done in the past decade for looking at the telecommuting productivity especially the developing countries. This unexpected event (Covid-19) forces white cellar worker working from home, regardless what type of organization they work for. It may create new work habit, perhaps promote work life balance better for some, or maybe on the other hand bring new productivity issues. It is important in this occasion, that APMBA will open special issue for August 2020 issue to encourage scholars around the world to submit their paper consist of ideas regarding working from home issues. With this editorial note, I would like also to congratulate four paper that addressing marketing, entrepreneurship, operation  and finance issue resulted from the 3rd AICMBS conference which was held in October 2019 that coloring the research dissemination through this scholarly venue.

Abstract

Unemployment still becomes a major problem for most developing countries like Indonesians. It is generally acknowledged that one of the efforts to overcome such problem is by creating new employments, particularly entrepreneurship and in this respect to enhanced through entrepreneur education. Should it be given college students, it will provide prominent influence in the development of entrepreneurship activities., in addition, several studies also mention that family support is also influential, where children of entrepreneurs or people who own businesses tend to be entrepreneurs. Both factors are expected to raise student’s entrepreneurial intention, people’s intention to start ventures. This study intends to identify the effect of entrepreneurial education and family support on entrepreneurial intention. This study uses a survey method with questionnaires and Partial Least Squares as its statistical instrument surveying all university students in Malang Raya who have taken entrepreneurship course. Both hypotheses of this study are accepted were the main result stating that entrepreneurial knowledge positively and significantly influences entrepreneurial intention. Others major implications are also discussed in this article.
