Abstract

Mangkudulis Island is one of the regions in the Tana Tidung Regency, North Kalimantan Province, which has significant potential in fisheries, particularly traditional shrimp pond aquaculture for tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon). In general, environmental factors, such as soil quality, will affect the quality of pond water. The issue of water quality in shrimp ponds generally begins with soil quality, including pH, redox potential, organic carbon content, total nitrogen, C/N ratio, Fe, Mn, Al, and soil texture. This study aims to analyze soil quality parameters in relation to tiger shrimp pond production. The research was conducted over two months, from August to September 2022, in the tiger shrimp ponds on Mangkudulis Island. Soil samples were analyzed in a laboratory for parameters such as pH, redox potential, organic matter, texture, and heavy metals. The results of the soil quality measurements from Mangkudulis Island shrimp ponds indicate that the soil quality, based on parameters such as pH, redox potential, organic matter, and texture, does not meet the standard quality criteria. However, the levels of heavy metals (Al, Fe, and Mn) are within the acceptable standards. The average results for each parameter were: pH 5.5, redox potential -293 mV, organic carbon 2.26%, total nitrogen 0.18%, C/N ratio 13.15, sand 12.20%, silt 52.72%, clay 35.08%, Al 11.14 ppm, Fe 36.26 ppm, and Mn 17.42 ppm. These results were compared with shrimp production data obtained through interviews with pond owners. The average pond production is 300 kg/hectare, with 70,000 seed shrimp stocked at a density of 40 shrimp per kg. This result is not optimal due to the soil quality in the Mangkudulis ponds. Proper soil management needs to be implemented before the ponds are reused.

Abstract

The waters of Bintuni Bay have abundant natural resources, especially aquatic biota. One of the aquatic biota with high economic value is the Jerbung shrimp (Penaeus merguiensis). Currently, information about the biological aspects of shrimp in the waters of Bintuni Bay is still very lacking. Specifically, the aim of this research is to examine the size structure, first caught size (L50%), infinity size (L∞), growth patterns, condition factors and gonad maturity level (TKG) of Jerbung shrimp in the waters of Bintuni Bay. The research method used is the survey method. The research was carried out from March to April 2023. The results showed that the average carapace length and weight of male shrimp were 4.6 cm and 14.8 gr. Meanwhile, the average shell length and weight of female shrimp are 5.4 cm and 25.8 grams. The L50% value of male and female shrimp is 5.3 cm and 5.8 cm, the ½ L∞ value of male and female shrimp is 3.4 cm and 3.5 cm. If L50% > ½ L∞ means the size of the shrimp caught is quite large. The growth pattern of male and female shrimp is negative allometry (b = 0.1035 and b = 0.7424). The condition factor values for male and female shrimp are 0.31 and 1.73. The results of TKG observations showed that 75.2% of female shrimp were in TKG I and II, meaning that 50% of the shrimp caught had not yet reached TGK III and IV at the time of the research.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the biological aspects of julung fish by providing basic information regarding size distribution, sex ratio, length-to-weight relationship, growth pattern, and condition faktors. Data collection was carried out at Sanggeng Market and Borobudur market which are fish marketing places in Manokwari Regency, November 2021-January 2022 using a descriptive research method. Fish sampling was done randomly. The results showed that the sex ratio of male fish (1278 fish) was greater than the number of female fish (575 fish), this means that it was significantly different and did not follow a 1:1 ratio. The size distribution of julung-julung fish varies from 200-287 mm for male fish and 220-309 mm for females. Body weight 23-63 grams for males and 31-73 grams for females. The relationship between fish length and weight follows the regression equation W = 0.0021L1.779 for males, and W = 0.0235L1.3656 for females. The growth pattern of fish was allometric negative (b < 3) for both males and females. Condition faktor values ranged from 0.012-1.079 for males and 0.645-1.630 for females. The conclusion of this study is that fish growth is strongly influenced by faktors such as gender, age.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Bumi Dipasena Mulya, East Rawajitu District, Tulangbawang Regency, Lampung, which is known for its intensive farming and fishing activities, especially mullet fish. The research method used is experimental, by measuring physico-chemical parameters of waters including temperature, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO). The results of the study showed the average value of several histopathological indicators for mullet fish, namely endema on the gills (3), which indicates swelling of the gill tissue due to fluid accumulation in response to environmental stress, such as pollution. In addition, the necrosis value (1,08) reflects the death of cells in the gill tissue, which is caused by exposure to harmful substances, including heavy metals, which can damage gill function. Congestion (1,92) indicates a buildup of blood in the gill vasculature, associated with an inflammatory or stress response, which can disrupt blood and oxygen flow. These findings emphasize the importance of water quality management to maintain the health of aquatic biota.

Abstract

Microalgae is a photosynthetic microorganism that oftenly used as live feed for aquaculture. One of the species that mostly used is Thalassiosira sp. This species belongs to the group of diatom which has high nutritional content. The availability of nutrient in media is one of the main factor affecting growth and biochemical content of Thalassiosira sp. This study aimed to evaluate effect of cultivation media on the growth, biomass, and pigment content of Thalassiosira sp. This research consisted of four treatments and four replicates. The treatments included different cultivation media namely walne, Blue Green-11 (BG-11), Bold’s Basal Medium (BBM), dan f/2 (Guillard). During the study, growth was observed daily while biomass and pigment content were evaluated at the early stationary phase. The result showed that different culture media was significantly (p < 0.05) effect the growth, biomass, and pigment content of Thalassiosira sp. The walne medium produced highest growth, biomass, and pigment content. On the other hand, the lowest production of growth, biomass, and pigment content were obtained in BBM. This study indicated that the suitable medium for Thalassiosira sp. cultivation was walne.

Abstract

Fish hybridization is the process of crossing two different fish species to produce offspring that have characteristics of both parents. The main purpose of hybridization is usually to combine superior traits from both species, such as faster growth, disease resistance, or improved meat quality. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 2 treatments and each treatment consisted of 3 replicates. The treatments were as follows: P1 = Koi X Koi Fish Hatchery (control), P2 = Koi X Kaviat Fish Hatchery. The results showed that the pH value in borehole water quality was 7.89 with Kohaku broodstock producing fecundity of 640 eggs, obtained an average Fertilization Rate (FR) of 17.29% resulting from the average of each egg sample calculation. The highest number of fertilized eggs was found in the PIU1 treatment which was 1470 eggs and the average Hatching Rate (HR) was 49.35%. The conclusion of this study is that hybridization between Koi and Kaviat fish can produce good potential performance based on water quality that can be maintained well with test parameters seen from fecundity, FR, HR, Length Growth, and good Survival Rate (SR).  Superior fecundity and quality in the hybridization process between koi and caviat fish can occur well if several environmental factors such as temperature and pH are still on an optimal scale.
