Abstract

This paper studies the oil economy with a particular focus on the Nigeria’s Niger Delta Region. It argues that since the discovery and exploration of oil in commercial quantities in the Region, it has become both a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing because it has provided wealth to the people and government of the region. Some indigenes of the Nigeria Delta are owners of the oil wells others are employed to work with the oil multi-national companies like Chevron, Texaco, Shell Petroleum Development Company, Agip Oil Company, et cetera.  The exploration of oil in the area under review is also a curse because it has negatively affected plants and animals (that is the destruction of flora and fauna); it has destroyed the ecosystem of the area.  Using survey and documentary methods of data collection; the paper reveals that despite the discovery and exploration of oil in the said region, Nigeria’s Delta Region has remained one of the underdeveloped regions of the country. This is to say that the impact of the oil industry on the economy and society of the people is marginally felt. Based on the foregoing, these policy options are made. The government should give immediate attention to the indigenes of the region where crude oil is being extracted from. This will reduce the unrest in that region. The government should establish an institution that will ensure that the multinational oil companies are socially responsible to their host communities. Environmental pollution and the adverse effects on the host communities of oil exploration sites in the Niger Delta is an important issue that requires urgent and prompt attention because petroleum production forms the major natural-based resources on which the country depends. Therefore, Policymakers of the various oil exploration companies should realize that there is a need to protect the health, safety, and welfare of these communities. The communities and the inhabitants have to be well protected and some of the health and safety measures, which members of the company staff benefit, should be extended to members of the host communities to improve their standard of living.

Abstract

Migration is an important phenomenon primarily driven by powerful economies and labor market forces. The movement of people across country borders, especially from less developed to more prosperous countries, has a substantial impact in several dimensions. People worldwide have been migrating across continents for food, shelter, safety, and jobs. Today, people are still on the move for the same reasons, and new reasons are arising: they want to be in countries with economic growth and democracy. Moreover, the most important reason for migration is to make money and send remittances to their home countries. The study seeks to assess the effect of immigrants on local economic growth in South Africa. This qualitative study relied much on online secondary data from different search engines. More money is going out of the country than the money coming into the country. The article intends to contribute to the existing body of knowledge and inform local government so that the businesses owned by immigrants can contribute to regional economic growth. Findings from this study revealed that most self-employed immigrants are not banking their money; they send money home to their own countries, hurting South Africa's economy.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the challenges of employing Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and its impacts on all sectors of society, including the education sector. Transfer of knowledge, which is one of the foundations of learning, is among the most fundamental social achievements of human beings. The concept of moving the traditional classroom of desks, notebooks, pencils, and blackboard to an online forum of computers, software, and the internet intimidates many teachers who are accustomed to the face-to-face interaction of the traditional classroom. Education is viewed as one of the key mechanisms of achieving social transformation. Although educational challenges demand multi-pronged approaches, which may include both traditional teaching approaches and innovative non-digital instructional designs, it is the role of educational technology that is the focus of this paper. South African higher education has considerable strengths. In several areas of learning and teaching, its institutions offer academic programs that produce high-quality graduates with knowledge, competencies, and skills to practice occupations and professions anywhere in the world. It is in this educational context that new opportunities for educational technology have arisen. The paper argues that online education provides an environment where all and often marginalized voices can be heard and also contribute to higher participation of students as well as collaborative learning. The paper concludes that educational technology has a key role to play in South African higher education as one of the strategies for addressing teaching and learning concerns.

Abstract

This paper investigates the economic dimensions of the lingering conflict between Palestine and Israel in the Middle East, emphasizing the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The paper discusses how economic disparities, resource allocations, and trade restrictions exacerbated tensions between Israelis and Palestinians. It employs primary and secondary sources using qualitative analysis. The paper reveals that economic blockades, disparities in economic development, and control over key resources have perpetuated the conflict. The study highlights the importance of economic cooperation and equitable resource distribution as pathways to peace. It recommends international mediation to ensure fair economic practices and investments in joint economic ventures to foster regional stability and mutual prosperity.

Abstract

In addition to being a crucial part of strategic human resource management, career support also serves as a tool for achieving organizational objectives. This study evaluates the impact of career support on workers' ability to perform. Most businesses in Nigeria are currently dealing with issues related to employee performance; this illustrates a significant challenge in the country's business environment. A qualitative research design was used for this study. To investigate the impact of career support on employees' performance, exploratory research based solely on findings from the analysis of the existing literature of various studies, periodicals, reports, and books relevant to the topic of study was employed. According to the findings of this study, career support is a crucial management tool that could be used in Nigeria to raise and improve employee performance. This implies that organizations in Nigeria may decline employee performance if career support issues are not taken seriously. The study concludes that an organization's career support initiatives directly impact how well its employees perform. The ability of employees to perform well is significantly positively correlated with career support. The study suggests, among other things, that organizations continue to treat career support very seriously to boost workers' productivity.

Abstract

An independent official tasked with investigating complaints made by citizens against public authorities or organizations is known as the Ombudsman. It is an essential mechanism for promoting accountability and transparency within government and public institutions, helping to restore public trust and ensure fair treatment of citizens. Article 77 of the Constitution of Bangladesh outlines the legal framework for establishing the office of the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman Act of Bangladesh, enacted in 1980, was established under the constitutional framework provided by Article 77. This study is based on solely secondary sources, and it is descriptive. This study has discussed that for protecting the rights of citizens, bridge the gap between government and citizens, and strengthen democratic principles, establishing the Ombudsman is mandatory in the present context of Bangladesh. This study has also discussed the loopholes in the Ombudsman Act of Bangladesh and what amendments should be introduced.

Abstract

This research aims to see the extent of the existence of the Trans Jogja Bus as a mode of public transport in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The publicness approach measures how public Trans Jogja Bus (BTJ) is in fulfilling the public interest and answers the urgency of overcoming congestion problems and providing services based on community needs. This research uses descriptive qualitative research, with data collection techniques of Interview, Observation, and Documentation. The informants who became data sources in this study include BTJ managers including PT AMI and Purasani pool, DIY Transportation Department, and BTJ service users. The results of this study found that the existence of BTJ in the public approach is as follows: 1) Service norms in BTJ's publicness degree are based on openness and socialization to the public, especially students. 2) Efforts to expand transport coverage on BTJ recipients, facilities, and route destinations. 3) The role of BTJ in reducing congestion is still not optimal because in operation it is often empty of passengers and congestion still occurs because private and online vehicles are the main choice for the community. 4) Efforts to build public trust in terms of organizational capability, leader quality, and passenger safety.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of transformative service dimensions on public satisfaction at the Public Service Mall (PSM) in Payakumbuh City, Indonesia. While PSMs have emerged as integrated service innovations, a significant gap remains in understanding how specific transformative service dimensions affect public satisfaction in developing countries. Employing an associative quantitative approach, this research collected data from 220 service users through structured questionnaires and analyzed it using multiple regression. The findings reveal that individual well-being dimensions contributed the highest impact (57.2%), followed by group well-being (51.2%) and social well-being (38.9%). Simultaneously, these three dimensions explained 88.7% of the variance in public satisfaction (F = 1704.067, p < 0.05). These findings make theoretical contributions by extending the Transformative Service Research (TSR) framework to public administration contexts in developing countries and by identifying a hierarchy of service dimensions that shape public satisfaction. From a practical perspective, this research provides policymakers with empirical evidence on the importance of balancing individual and collective well-being interventions in the development of PSM. This study addresses a literature gap by providing the first empirical evidence on TSR application in integrated public service facilities within a non-Western developing country context, specifically Indonesia.

Abstract

The Bojonegoro Traffic Information Center (Bojonegoro TIC) application is an innovative application managed by the Transportation Agency to facilitate the process of providing public information services in the field of traffic. The government is expected to be able to implement dynamic governance, by the times but not ignoring the needs of the community. Focusing on a case study where the Bojonegoro Traffic Information Center application has been launched since 2018 and has undergone three stages of renewal, but the people of Bojonegoro city still do not know the existence of the Bojonegoro Traffic Information Center application in providing public information services. There are still several obstacles such as in 2022 the weakness of CCTV real-time data that cannot function for almost a year, there are still many people who are in remote areas, and also people who are old are not accustomed to using cellphones as a source of public information services, they think that cellphones are only limited to communication tools. This study aims to determine the dynamic governance of service delivery through the Bojonegoro Traffic Information Center application according to Neo & Chen 2007, where there are three dynamic governance capabilities: Thinking Ahead, Thinking Again, and Thinking Across. The results of the study have thought ahead by preparing public services through one service application and creating innovations to bring services closer to the community, but also have thought again by conducting regular evaluations and thinking across borders by adopting thoughts from other regions by implementing directly on the application so that it can support public services to the community.

Abstract

Globally, the number of sexual disclosures (SH) in academia reaches 58%, the second highest after the military sector. This problem remains unresolved due to a lack of internal support and cross-sector mentoring. This study aims to formulate a Pentahelix collaboration model to mitigate SH in higher education. The research method uses a systematic literature review (PRISMA). The results show that a lack of understanding of gender equality and a culture of silence cause SH in higher education. Prevention of SH begins with policies that regulate and accommodate higher education for the benefit of victims. The main obstacle is the lack of understanding of gender equality and the evaluation of SH cases. Additionally, limited mass media space is another obstacle. For the effectiveness of the policy, collaboration between the government, private sector, community, media, and academics is essential through the Pentahelix. The government is responsible for developing law enforcement, while other sectors are aware of the negative impacts of violence against children. The researcher proposes eight phases for policy implementation, starting from defining violence against children to assessing policies that have been implemented.
