Abstract

This research study aimed to know the effectiveness of portfolio assessment in microbiology course on students’ self-regulated and learning outcome. This research was the experimental research of the pretes-posttest group design. The sample was 44 students of Nondik Biologi 2013. Self-regulated questionnaire and learning outcome test were used to measure self-regulated and learning outcome of students. Data were analyzed by using independent sample t-test with SPSS statistics 21 program. The results show that: (1) Students’ self regulated learning that assessed by portfolio bigger than assessed by paper test (tcount=3,105, p<0,05), the average score of students’ regulated learning on experimental class (score 81) > students on control class (score 76); (2) Students’ learning outcome that assessed by portfolio higher than assessed by paper test (tcount=2,861, p<0,05), the average score of students’ learning outcome on experimental class (score 86) > students on control class (score 80); (3) Effect size portofolio assessment application on students’ self regulated and learning outcome is  93% dan 81%, for each. This study conclude that portfolio assessment application effective on students’ self regulated and learning outcome in experimental microbiology, State University of Medan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the components of Biology Lesson Plan for reproduction system material in public senior high school in Mandailingnatal District. The research method was using quantitative descriptive study with a sample of 20 biology teachers from 14 public senior high schools in Mandailingnatal district. The research instrument used RPP document assessment sheets, observation sheets of instructional implementation and interviews. The results showed that Planning of learning implementation made by biology teacher in public senior high school in Mandailingnatal for reproduction system academic year 2015/2016 was categorized quite well planned with percentage 77%. As a follow-up of the results of this study is expected to teachers to be able to plan better, systematic and operational learning implementation by considering the characteristics of students, include a more appropriate evaluation instrument and more active in cooperation with the MGMP group to produce better learning.

Abstract

This research aims are to determaine the relationship between raport value (X) and competence general biology I (Y) student college FMIPA level I T.P 2015/2016 based on the path to State University of Medan (SNMPTN, Bidikmisi, SBMPTN, UMB). This research is study using descriptive correlational. Population in this research were all the student FMIPA  Level I of State University of Medan T.P 2015/2016 which amounted 1159 people. Sample was taken by Proportional Stratified Sampling obtained 176 people. Analysis techniques data is using multiple corellation. The study concluded that there was a relationship between raport value (X) and competence general biology I (Y), based on SBMPTN are 0.333 the regression equation Ŷ = 68.122 + 5.481 X1, SNMPTN are 0.117 the regression equation Ŷ = 18.093 + 0.363 X1, Bidikmisi are 0.188 the regression equation Ŷ = 1.662 + 0.017 X1, and UMB are -0.015 the regression equation Ŷ = 3.161 +(-0.001X1).

Abstract

This research was aimed to determine: the effect of model problem based learning (PBL), project based learning (PjBL) and conventional learning to: biology learning outcomes of students in the matter of environmental pollution in SMA Negeri 2 Kota Tebingtinggi. A quasi-experiment research used pretest-posttest control group design. Samples were selected using random cluster sampling technique and divided into experiment and control classes. The tenth class of sains-2 was applied with conventional learning (control), the tenth class of sains-3 was applied with problem based learning (PBL), and the tenth class of sains-4 was applied with project based learning (PjBL). Data were analyzed using Analysis Covarian (anacova) at the level of significance α = 0.05 and followed by Tukey’s test with SPSS ver 21.0. The results showed that: There was an effect of learning model to biology learning outcomes (P= 0,025). Biology learning outcomes that learned with problem based learning (81,46 ±  6,59) was higher than the project based learning (81,43 ± 10,14) and conventional learning (65,43 ± 7,10). Based on the results showed that problem based learning (PBL) is better than project based learning (PjBL) and conventional learning.

Abstract

This research was intended to identify the correlation between (1) creative thinking and science literacy and (2) scientific attitude and science literacy in the concept of environment pollution. Sample was consisted of 219 eleventh grade science student of MAN Medan that was taken by cluster random sampling method. This study was encompassed phases preparation, action, and post research. The instrument were included to scientific literacy test, creative thinking test and scientific attitude questionary. The results is indicated that (1) there is positive correlation between creative thinking and science literacy with r=0.433 (2) there is positive correlation between science attitude and science literacy with r=0.363. (3) there is positive correlation between creative thinking and science attitude with science literacy with r=0,59. This study implies that reading comprehension and science attitude have important role to improve science literacy skill.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of learning model on: science process skills in SMA Negeri 1 Langsa. The research applied experimental queasy method research with 3 classes which were using by cluster randome technique. Class A learnt with problem based learning model, class B with  guided discovery lerning model, while class C (control) learnt with conventional lerning model. the data analysis technique used Covariat Analysis (ANACOVA) at the level of significance α = 0,05 by using SPSS 21.0. The result showed: there was significant effect of learning models on student’s science process skill (F = 50.953; P = 0.00). student’s science process skill learnt by problem based learning (84.5 ± 5.3) significantly higher than guided discovery (75.30 ± 7.7), and conventional learning models (65.90 ± 8.1).

Abstract

This research was aimed to know The best learning strategy between the cooperative learning strategy type TPS with animation media, cooperative learning strategy type TPS with static picture media, and conventional learning strategy to the memory retency of XI grade students in State Senior High School Mitra Inalum. This research was conducted with quasi experiment methods with three classes which sample randomly, XI IA.1 class with cooperative learning strategy type TPS with animation media; XI IA. 2 class with , cooperative learning strategy type TPS with static picture media, and XI IA. 3 class with conventional learning strategy. Instrument in this research used achievement test in the form of 50 multiple-choice questions that have been tested for validity, reliability, dicrimination power, and difficulty level. Student’s retency memory can be gathered from the achievement test after 21 days sub matter is done finished. The techique of analysis used analysis of covarians with SPSS 17.0 for Windows. The result of this research and test shows the best learning strategy to  get student memory retency is cooperative learning strategy type TPS with static picture media, continued by cooperative learning strategy type TPS with animation media, and then with conventional learning strategy. There are differences between memory retency XI grade students in State Senior High School of Mitra Inalum thay by used the cooperative learning strategy type TPS with animation media, cooperative learning strategy type TPS with static picture media, and conventional learning strategy (Sig.= 0.03 < 0.05).

Abstract

The research aims to: (1) Develop a textbook of microbiological food at based problem; (2) determine the response of microbiology lecturer and students to textbooks developed. The textbook was developed to be used as a guide students in conducting lectures learning in the classroom. Data on the quality of development product were collected by questionnaire/questionnaire. Textbook was developed by using a development model Thiagarajan (4-D) that has been modified into a 3-D. The results showed: (1) Validation team of material experts showed an average of 88% (the excellent category); (2) Validation of the expert team of instructional design showed an average 95% (excellent category); (3) Ratings lecturer of microbiology showed an average of  92% (a very interesting category); (4) Trial individuals showed an average 89% (a very interesting category); (5) Trial small group showed an average of 84% (a very interesting category); (6) a finite field trial group showed an average of 87% (a very interesting category).So it can be concluded that product development research microbiology textbooks of based prombles that development is feasible to be used as a textbook students at third semester of Biology Education PPs of Unimed or as supporting lecture material on the material Applied Microbiology in Food Microbiology at Unimed.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of implementing the ICT media in learning inquiry about biotechnology into: Student’s higher order thingking skill; of students in class XII IPA at MAN 3 Medan.The study use quasy eksperimentwith sample as much as 3 class wich certained cluster random samplingof class XII IPA1learning process use learning video media, class XII IPA2learning process use animation media and class XII IPA3with use charta (control). Research instrumentuse higher order thingking skill test of students with use multiple choice and essay test. Analysis techniq using analysis covarians with usingby program SPSS 21.0.Study result and analysis show there are: Effect wich very significant (F=11,272; P=0,000) with using learning video media, animation, and charta of inquiry learning of the biotechnology topic to higher order thingking skill. Higher order thingking skillthat were taught by learning video (75,82±7,847) different significant with animasi (70,74±7,549) (P=0,010) and different significant with charta (65,38±7,162) (P=0,000).The result of this study is expectedfrom the teachersto applymedia of learning video and animation with inquiry of the biotechnology topicin order to increase higher order thingking skill of students in class XII IPA at MAN 3 Medan.

Abstract

The development of website based blended learning is aimed to promote change in the acceleration of learning process in higher education which is not bound by space and time, thus will directly improve the quality of learning process in the Study Program of Biology Education of University of Samudra. Utilization of information and communication technology in the development of website based blended learningin higher education combines face to faceand online.Research is functioned as learning mediation between lecturers and students of Study Program of Biology Education of University of Samudra. Research and Development was performed through the model of 4D with stages consisted of Define, Design, Developmentand Disseminatewhich were modified in accordance with the needof researcher. Subjects of experiment were students, lecturers, as well as information and communication technology experts. Instruments of study used were validation sheet and questionnaire. Analysis of qualitative data was done with stages of collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusion. Result of research based on validation test showed that the validation of media expert was 82.65% with qualification of practical and did not need to be revised, the second validation of teaching expert obtained was 86.25% with qualification of highly practical and did not need to be revisedand validation of respondent by students obtained a value of 90.16% with qualification of highly practical and did not need to be revised. Based on the validation result, the development of website based blended learningis suitable to be used by the students of Biology Education of University of Samudra in learning which combines face to face learning at class and online.
