Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Group Investigation with Project Based Learning model towards higher order thinking. The population of this research were the total, 60 under-graduated students of Simalungun University in fourth semester. They grouped as first experimental class treated by Group Investigation combine with PJBL, for next experimental class taught by Group Investigation and for control class taught by using conventional learning model. The research instrument uses a test result of learning ability of higher order thinking. This study include quasi experimental method. The data were analyzed by helping SPSS 21.0 program using F-test (ANACOVA α = 5% ). The results shown that: The higher order thinking ability of under-graduated students of Simalungun University treated by Group Investigation were significantly high (88,60 ± 3,73; x̄ ± SD) than group investigation class (81,00 ± 4,01 (x̄ ± SD) and conventional class 74,60 ± 3,58 (x̄ ± SD) with (Fhitung=67,742; P=0,000). Therefore, it can be concluded that Group Investigation combine with PJBL were affected the students’ higher order thinking abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationships between: (1) Achievement motivation; (2) Interest; (3) Carefullness of parents toward biology cognitive learning outcome; (4) Achievement motivation and interest; (5) Achievement motivation and carefullness of parents; (6) Interest and carefullness of parents together on biology cognitive learning outcome. This study was conducted at SMA Sekecamatan Medan Kota. The study method using is correlational descriptive with study sample as much as 275 students’ who are by purposive sampling that’s are SMA Negeri 5 as much as 138 students’, SMA Negeri 6 as much as 65 students’, and SMA Negeri 10 as much as 72 students’. The study instrument using questionnaire of achievement motivation with total 30 statement, questionnaire of interest with total 20 statement, questionnaire of carefullness of parents with total 25 statement, whereas value of biology cognitive learning outcome resulted from biology result semester I which there are in each school. Analysis techniques used is correlation with the help program SPSS 21.0 for windows. The stuy result shows that there are significant relationship between: (1) Achievement motivation toward biology cognitive learning outcome (r=0,536 ; p=0,000); (2) Interest toward biology cognitive learning outcome (r=0,482 ; p=0,000); (3) Carefullness of parents toward biology cognitive learning outcome (r=0,250 ; p=0,000); (4) Achievement motivation and interest together on biology cognitive learning outcome (r=0,603 ; p=0,000); (5) Achievement motivation and carefullness of parents together on biology cognitive learning outcome (r=0,546 ; p=0,000); (6) Interest and carefullness of parents together on biology cognitive learning outcome (r=0,499 ; p=0,000).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of learning strategies on the skills of the science process. The research method used quasi experiment with research sample of 3 classes determined randomly with cluster random sampling technique. Class A is taught by Problem Based Learning strategy, class B with Group Investigation and Class C (Control) learning strategy using Conventional learning strategy. The research instrument uses a science skill test in the form of a description of the observation sheet. Data analysis techniques with Covariate Analysis (ANACOVA) at significant level α = 0.05 with the help of SPSS 24. The results showed there is a significant influence of learning strategy on science process skills (F = 9,229; P = 0,000). As a follow-up of the results of this study is expected to teachers to be able to implement Problem Based Learning (PBL) strategy on Ecology material in an effort to improve the skills of science process.

Abstract

This research was emerged based on the facts about the presence of many conceptual problems that lead misconceptions in biology textbooks while teachers rely too much on textbooks as learning source in class. This study were aimed to analyze the misconceptions in the high school biology textbook for grade 12 which shall be used by high school students, grade 12 in the city of Binjai, especially for the subjects (growth and development, metabolism, heredity, evolution, and biotechnology) as well as to determine the percentage of misconceptions categories (misidentifications, overgeneralizations, oversimplification, obsolete concept and term, under generalizations). The research method used in this research is descriptive. The concepts contained in the textbook were analyzed by using analysis of documents or textbooks based on the criteria of each misconception categories contained in the instrument for misconceptions identification and then comparedto foreign textbooks. The results of this study showed that: (1) the percentage of misconceptions on the subject of (a) the growth and development (26,09%); (b) metabolism (26,09%); (c) heredity (26,09%); (d) evolution (8,69%); and (e) biotechnology (13,04%); (2) the percentage of misconceptions categories: (a) misidentifications (8,69%); (b) overgeneralizations (17,40%); (c) oversimplifications (69,56%); (d) obsolete concept and term (0,00%); (e) under generalizations (4,35%).

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa SMP Swasta Silinda yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran (problem based learning, dan konvensional) terhadap: (1) keterampilan proses sains; dan (2) hasil belajar siswapada materi ekosistem. Sampel penelitian ini merupakan populasi total siswa kelas VII SMP Swasta Silinda Semester Genap Tahun Pembelajaran 2015/2016 berjumlah 60 siswa yang terbagi kedalam 2 kelas, dimana masing-masing kelas terdapat 30 siswa.Instrumen dalam penelitian ini berupates hasil belajar siswa, dan observasi keterampilan proses sains siswa. Metode penelitian ini bersifat kuasi eksperimen (quasi eksperimental method) dengan teknik analisis hipotesis uji tpada taraf signifikansi α = 0,05. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa:(1)terdapat pengaruh model pembelajaran (Problem Based Learning, dan konvensional) terhadap keterampilan proses sains siswa pada materi ekosistemSMP Swasta Silinda Serdang Bedagai(thitung = 5,424; P = 0,000); dan (2) terdapat pengaruh model pembelajaran (Problem Based Learning, dan konvensional) terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada materi ekosistemSMP Swasta Silinda Serdang Bedagai(thitung = 3,342; P = 0,001). Hasil penelitan ini mengimplikasikan bahwamodel pembelajaran problem based learningmemberikan dampak untuk mengembangkanketerampilan proses sains dan meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa menjadi lebih baik.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) The expedience degree of biology environmental pollution based Islamic-Science class X MA; (2) The responses of MA Biology teachers;  and (3) The responses of students as to biology environmental pollution based Islamic-Science class X MA. This type of research is the development of research with product development model Borg and Gall, modified as needed. Data on quality of product development were collected by questionnaire. Data analyzed with descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results of this study showed that: (1) Validation of material expert is in very good criteria (88%); (2) Validation of learning design expert is in very good criteria (86%); (3) Assesment studies of biology teachers are in very helping criteria (3,4); (4) individual testing are  in good criteria (80%); (5) A small test group are in very good criteria (88%); Group confined field trials are in very good criteria (90%), so it can concluded that module environmental pollution class X MA based Islamic-Science is fit for use as a supporting for learning environmental pollution at school.

Abstract

This research was aimed to develop a Genetics Practical Guidance book Based on Science Process Skills which feasible empirically according to content and design expert. This Genetics Practical Guidance book was developed integrated to 11 components of science process skills in each practicum activity. This science process skills allowed students to explore the information in the form of facts and concepts of science. This study was conducted from April 2016 to August 2016. This research and development used Borg and Gall model. However this study was limited to validation from content expert and design expert. Validation to content experts was carried out to assess the feasibility of the contents, feasibility of the presentation, and the feasibility of science process skills components on the product. Validation of design experts carried out to assess the feasibility of the design of cover, cover typography, content design and content illustration on practical guidance book. Data validation was analyzed descriptively qualitative.The result shown that according to conten experts the product has average percentage of 88.2% with very good criteria, where as validation from design expert shown the average percentage of 88.3% with very good criteria. As the conclusion Genetics Practical Guidance book based on Science Process Skills is feasible empirically based on content and design expert to be continue to the next steps.

Abstract

This research was conducted in class 7th SMP Swasta Methodist Pematangsiantar which aims to determine: The effect of learning model (Learning Cycle, Problem Based Learning, and Konvensional) on student’s learning outcomes in ecosystem material. The population in this study amounted four classes and otherwise being research sample was as much as three classes, 7th-A as class with Problem Based Learning, 7th- B as class with Learning Cycle, and 7th-C as class with Konvensional. The data collection instrument by using: Test student’s learning outcomes in the form of the 30 multiple-choice items. This research method is quasi experiment with data analysis technique using Anacova Test and Anova 2 lines with a significance level α = 0,05. The result of this research found that: There is an effect of learning model (Learning Cycle, Problem Based Learning, and Konvensional) on student’s learning outcomes in ecosystem material, where a group of student who learned wih Learning Cycle 74,95±11,386, Problem Based Learning  81,33±10,23, and Konvensional 68,19±10,24, with Fcount = 13,280; p = 0,000 and significance level α = 0,05.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of mind map conversion strategy toward students retention of Biology Education Department in UIN Mataram, year 2016-2017. This research is a Quasi Experiment, using non equivalent control group design with pretest –posttest which performed in two groups of the fourth semester students. Treatment group is class C used mind map conversion strategy, and as control group is class D used a multistrategy, with total of 63 students. The retention instrument uses a mind map scoring sheet. The retention hypothesis was analyzed using t-test by SPSS version 21. The statistical analysis showed sig.t test = 0,00 < 0,05 then H0 is rejected. This mind map conversion strategy has a significant influence toward the retention of class C students.
