Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of Kitab Af’al in enhancing Arabic vocabulary acquisition using the Senior Teaches Junior (STJ) approach. The research evaluates how structured peer-teaching frameworks foster vocabulary retention and sustainable learning. A mixed method approach was employed, observing 30 students in a classroom setting. Kitab Af’al, featuring 540 verbs, was taught through techniques like spaced repetition, mnemonic devices, and thematic chunking. Data collection included observations, interviews, and documentation analysis. Results show that the combination of Kitab Af’al with the STJ approach significantly improved vocabulary mastery, while also building students' confidence and leadership. Peer-led sessions created a collaborative learning environment and a repository of effective teaching strategies for future application. This study highlights the synergy between traditional resources and innovative methods, offering a cost-effective and sustainable solution for Arabic language acquisition. It underscores the potential of the STJ model to empower students in resource-constrained educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss common errors in translating idioms found in the literary novel al-Hub tahta al-Mathar by Najib Mahfouz, which was translated into Indonesian under the title Rinai Cinta. There are discrepancies in meaning between the source language (Arabic) and the target language (Indonesian), resulting in misinterpretations for non-Arabic readers. This research is significant in preserving the authenticity of the source language and contributes to producing more accurate and high-quality translations. To analyze the types of translation errors, the researcher employed Mona Baker's translation theory from her book In Other Words. This study is a library research project utilizing a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. The findings reveal 12 types of idiomatic translation errors in the novel. When analyzed using the theoretical framework, the translation does not align with the strategies proposed by Mona Baker, thus classifying these as "errors."

Abstract

One of the problems in the implementation of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia No. 8 of 2016 Article 6 Paragraph 10 concerning equal rights to education for people with disabilities is the absence of Arabic language learning media that can be accessed by the visually impaired. Therefore, learning media that suits their needs is needed, using relevant materials and approaches, especially the CBI (Content-Based Instruction) approach. This study aims to develop and evaluate CBI-based Arabic language learning media for visually impaired students at MAN 2 Sleman Yogyakarta. Research and development (RD) methods with a quantitative approach were used, involving expert evaluations and effectiveness tests on grade 10 students. Data is collected through tests, questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. The media results developed are in the form of an Android-based application with audio features from native speakers, including three chapters of material and practice questions. The analysis of pre-test and post-test scores with paired sample T-test and N-Gain showed an improvement in students' Arabic language skills, with a significance value of 0.037 and an N-Gain score of 62.57%.

This increased interest is reflected in students' enthusiasm, attentiveness, and positive behavior in class. Moreover, factors such as psychological wellbeing, teaching quality, instructional materials, methods, and the learning environment are critical in shaping motivation.
