Abstract

This paper analyzes the weakening of local institutions in the implementation of the National Strategic Project (PSN) food estate in Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra. This program tends to ignore the social context of local communities and local governments. Using a qualitative approach based on literature studies and in-depth interviews, this study finds that the role of the regency government and local communities is increasingly marginalized in decision-making and land management. Using Hindriks' institutional weakness theory framework and motivation-information aspects, this study shows that unequal access to information and the lack of political motivation contribute significantly to the declining influence of local actors. As a result, the program not only failed to achieve significant production outcomes, but also created changes in farmers' social functions and the potential loss of local commodities. This study aims to emphasize the importance of involving local institutions in development programs. As a reflection, this paper recommends that the central government adopt a participatory approach that recognizes the capacity and values of local institutions to achieve more equitable and sustainable food development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of self-reliance development programs in Indonesian correctional institutions using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The primary objective is to identify the gap between the regulatory framework and the actual implementation of vocational programs for inmates. The study employs a qualitative design, synthesizing 42 scholarly articles published between 2020 and 2025, selected through PRISMA methodology and accessed via scholarly databases such as Google Scholar, GARUDA, and Publish or Perish. The review focuses on two central issues: the disparity between policies and practices and the factors influencing the low participation of inmates in self-reliance programs. The findings reveal that while the national target for inmate productivity was reported at 71.34%, this figure only represents 3.2% of the total inmate population in Indonesia. Contributing factors include overcrowding, inadequate facilities, lack of qualified personnel, and inconsistent program execution. The study concludes that although self-reliance development is a mandated aspect of correctional rehabilitation, its actual application remains limited and often ineffective. To improve outcomes, the research recommends enhanced infrastructure, strategic partnerships with industry, personalized inmate engagement, and alignment between training content and labor market needs. This study offers actionable insights for policymakers and correctional practitioners to strengthen rehabilitation programs and support the reintegration of inmates into society.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal Program implemented by the Indonesian government in April 2025 triggered intense public discussion on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), reflecting a sharp polarization of opinions between support and criticism. This study aims to analyze the forms, sentiment directions, and network structure of public discourse surrounding the MBG program in digital space. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, combining content analysis and Social Network Analysis (SNA) based on social media data. Data were collected through web crawling using Python 3 on Google Colab, yielding 33,213 tweets posted between 1-30 April 2025. The analysis classified public sentiment (positive and negative) and mapped user interactions to identify communication patterns and key actors. The findings reveal two dominant clusters: pro and critical groups. The pro program cluster was dominated by institutional and buzzer accounts with uniform narratives, while the critical cluster consisted mainly of personal accounts expressing participatory and argumentative views highlighting issues of implementation, food quality, and alleged budget irregularities. The network mapping shows two major clusters with limited interaction, indicating digital polarization and the echo chamber phenomenon. Conceptually, the study demonstrates that public opinion formation on social media is shaped not only by policy substance but also by political communication strategies and platform algorithms that amplify dominant narratives. These findings imply the need for a two-way, participatory communication strategy and improved digital literacy to foster a healthier and more deliberative public discourse in Indonesia’s digital sphere.

Abstract

Corrective feedback is one of the most controversial issues in language teaching. Although corrective feedback is seen as an effective way to improve students’ learning, studies have shown that corrective feedback increases the stress level of students. Corrective feedback is a face-threatening act and this may result in students’ low self-esteem, demotivation, and anxiety. To mitigate the negative impact of corrective feedback , teachers use  strategies and other discourse markers when forming their corrective feedback. This research examined the different kinds of oral corrective feedback (OCF) provided by the teachers and analyzed the  strategies and other discourse markers  the teachers used to mitigate the face-threatening impact of OCF. It examined 128 Student-Teacher Exchanges from five classes. These exchanges were transcribed and analyzed using the frameworks of Lyster and Ranta (1997), Reigel (2005) and Ellis( 2009). The results of the study indicated the teachers’ sensitivity to the emotional/psychological impact  of oral corrective feedback on students and utilized various strategies to mitigate what may be considered embarrassing  or offensive statements of correction.  The data  showed that the teachers employed implicit corrective feedback (similar to off the record politeness strategy), affixed positive markers such as praise markers and other linguistic structures to explicit corrective feedback, and  also utilized larger structures to express positive politeness.

Abstract

Divorce is a social phenomenon that remains one of the most important issues in the world, including in Indonesia. Some residents in Indonesia experience divorce. Data on divorces reported by BPS in 2024 shows that the divorce rate varies in each province. This phenomenon of divorce is caused by several underlying factors. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence divorce, such as average length of schooling, female labour force participation rate, unemployment rate in a region, and percentage of poor people. This study uses quantitative secondary data analysis methods. The data was analysed using product moment correlation calculations. The variables analyzed were the divorce rate; average length of unschooling; female labour force participation rate; unemployment rate; and percentage of poor population. Based on the research results, it shows a positive relationship between average years of schooling and divorce rates; there is a positive relationship between female labor force participation rates and divorce rates; there is a positive relationship between unemployment rates and divorce rates; and there is a positive relationship between the percentage of poor population and divorce rates.

Abstract

This study examines the role of digital micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in advancing Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on three interrelated issues: digital inclusivity, access inequality, and platform market dominance. Adopting a qualitative descriptive approach through library-based research, the study analyses secondary data from journal articles, international agency reports, official government publications, and statistical sources from 2019 to 2025. Data analysis employed thematic synthesis supported by NVivo 12 Plus for coding, theme identification, and word cloud visualisation. The findings reveal that digitalisation contributes to inclusive economic participation and women’s entrepreneurship, aligning with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). However, persistent infrastructure disparities, uneven broadband distribution, and limited digital literacy—particularly in rural regions—continue to constrain equitable access, impeding progress toward SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Moreover, the dominance of a few e-commerce platforms such as Tokopedia and Shopee reinforces market dependency and unequal power relations, counteracting the objectives of SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Applying the Global Political Economy, Capability Approach, and Inclusive Innovation frameworks, the study concludes that realising the SDGs through MSME digitalisation requires oversight of platform power, equitable digital infrastructure, and empowerment of entrepreneurial capabilities. Policy implications include strengthening competition regulation, expanding digital skills programmes, and institutionalising inclusive innovation strategies. Future research should explore comparative and mixed-method studies across ASEAN contexts to validate and deepen these findings.

Abstract

The Green Social Work (GSW) approach is a social work approach that integrates environmental and social issues. This trend offers solutions to address the challenges of poverty and environmental crises simultaneously. PKH is one of the government's flagship programs in eradicating poverty, combined with increasing the capacity of PKH Beneficiary Families (KPM) through local economic empowerment, which has begun to promote the environmental concept as a solution to increase family food security. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the GSW approach in the practice of PKH assistance and its contribution to family food security in Dlanggu District, Mojokerto Regency. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that the majority of assistance activities have focused on environmentally based activities such as utilizing gardens or empty yards to grow various types of vegetables, managing recycled waste to make compost, and family farming education. These activities encourage increased family food availability and awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability. However, the implementation of GSW in PKH assistance still faces several challenges, including limited capacity of PKH assistants, lack of participation of KPM PKH, and less than optimal awareness of KPM PKH regarding the utilization and management of local food resources. Therefore, strengthening the capacity of PKH assistants, cross-sector collaboration, and increasing the knowledge and skills of KPM PKH regarding family food security are key to the successful implementation of GSW in PKH assistance practices.

Abstract

This study investigates how local communities perceive and experience the socioeconomic impacts of the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE), a flagship Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Gresik, Indonesia. Although SEZs are intended to stimulate regional economic development, increase employment, and attract investment, their benefits often fail to reach all affected populations. Using a parallel approach that integrates structured household surveys and in-depth qualitative interviews across four directly impacted villages—Kramat, Tajungwidoro, Peganden, and Yosowilangun—this study captures community-level variations in perceptions and lived experiences. Quantitative data highlight limited long-term employment opportunities, a decline in traditional livelihoods such as farming and aquaculture, and uneven social infrastructure improvements. Qualitative findings further reveal concerns regarding weak community engagement, symbolic corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and environmental degradation. While some respondents acknowledged improved access to transportation and economic diversification, others expressed disillusionment with unfulfilled expectations of inclusive growth. This study emphasizes the need for SEZ governance models to include transparent, participatory mechanisms and long-term capacity-building initiatives. These findings contribute to the literature on industrial development and community welfare by offering actionable policy insights to guide more inclusive and sustainable industrial transition.

Abstract

This study investigates customer sentiment in online reviews of RM Ayam Betutu Pak Man, a renowned Balinese restaurant featured on TripAdvisor, one of the world’s leading platforms for culinary and tourism insights. In the digital era, online review technologies have revolutionized how restaurant businesses interact with customers and evaluate service quality. While previous research has examined sentiment analysis within the restaurant industry, limited attention has been given to establishments with deep cultural and culinary heritage. To address this gap, 77 TripAdvisor reviews from 2013 to 2020 were analyzed, encompassing six variables: name, title, rating, comment, date, and region. Data were processed using RStudio through text preprocessing, sentiment labelling, lexicon-based analysis, sentiment aggregation, and temporal trend examination. Results indicate that most reviewers are domestic tourists from major cities in Western Indonesia, with some international visitors from Dubai, Ipswich, Kuala Lumpur, Victoria, and Marcos. Overall, customer sentiment is predominantly positive, particularly regarding the taste and authenticity of ayam betutu, although fluctuations occur due to service quality issues and external factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Word cloud visualizations highlight the restaurant’s strong culinary reputation while pointing to service and cleanliness as areas for improvement. Strategically, the study suggests enhancing service quality, tailoring menus to diverse visitor preferences, and reinforcing digital and cultural branding. As a limitation, the analysis focused only on English and Indonesian reviews. Future studies are encouraged to include more languages, employ advanced analytical tools, and expand the dataset across various restaurant contexts.
