Abstract

Fish protein hydrolyzate (HPI) is a dry protein dosage form with more than 60% protein content. HPI is produced from breaking down fish protein into simple peptides and amino acids through the hydrolysis process by enzymes, acids, or bases. The HPI snakehead product is expected to increase the product's added value because it can be applied in the food and non-food fields. This study aims to obtain the papain enzyme concentration that produces the best HPI through the total residual solids (%) test and the degree of hydrolysis test. In addition, to get the proximate value of HPI flour with the best papain enzyme. Based on the total residual solids test (%) and the degree of hydrolysis (%), the best value was obtained in the treatment of adding 20% papain enzyme. This resulted in a value of 13.25% water content, 0.045% ash content, 20.81% protein content, and 0.28% fat content.

Abstract

The decreasing population of snakehead fish (Channa striata) in nature needs to be preserved through cultivation. The use of probiotics in cultivation can support increased production. This study aimed to determine the effect of the frequency of probiotics on survival, growth, feed conversion, and body proximate in snakehead fish fry for 60 days. The study was conducted using an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment is the frequency of giving probiotics, including once a day, twice a day, three times a day, and without probiotics (control). The results showed that the frequency of probiotic administration affected survival, growth, feed conversion, and proximate content of snakehead fish seed bodies. The best frequency is the provision of probiotics twice a day.

Abstract

Pangium edule or keluwak is a local spice that can extend the shelf life of livestock products because it contains antimicrobial compounds. This study aimed to determine the effect of marination using Pangium edule on the microbiological and organoleptic quality of lamb. This study used a factorial completely randomized design to treat Pangium edule concentration and shelf life of 3 replications each. Lamb meat was marinated using Pangium edule extract 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%, then stored at 12 hours, 24 hours, and 36 hours at room temperature. The results showed that the longer the meat's shelf life, the microbial growth also increased, but marination using Pangium edule resulted in lower microbial growth than without treatment. The treatment of lamb marination with 3% and 6% Pangium edule extract showed the lowest microbes and was very significantly different from lamb without treatment for 36 hours. Its means that the antibacterial compound in Pangium edule can inhibit microbial growth and is still by the standards set by SNI compared to the control. Marination using Pangium edule extract during the shelf life also significantly affected the panelists' acceptance level, namely aroma, taste, tenderness, and color. Organoleptic scores, namely smell, taste, tenderness, and color at 6% to 9% with a shelf life of 36 hours, are still in a fairly good range. Marination using Pangium edule 6% can maintain the microbiological and organoleptic lamb quality for 36 hours.

Abstract

This research was conducted for one year, which was divided into 4 quarters. The average of each quarter was used as a replication. This study aimed to determine the composition of purse seine catch and the effect of the length of the purse seine on the catch of fishers in the waters of northern Aceh. The sample in this research is purse seine which has a length of 800 m, 900 m, 1000 m, and 1200 m. The composition of the fishermen's catch during the study was skipjack, mackerel, lemuru, and layang. The test results using ANOVA in the treatment of the ring seine length group obtained the value of F-count is 40.275 or significant (0.000). The ANOVA test on replications obtained a value of F-count is 1.623 or a significance value (0.082), meaning that the length of the 1200 meter seine had a significant effect on the fishermen's catch, while the number of replications, namely the observation time during the study year, had no significant effect on the fishermen's catch.

Abstract

This research aims to study the effect of using organic fertilizers on the growth and yield of soybeans. Besides, to study the selection of the best types of organic fertilizers to increase the soil's ability to absorb water so that it can increase yield even in drought conditions. The research was carried out in the Faculty of Agriculture screen house, Indonesian Muslim University, Makassar, with the type of alfisol soil. The design used as factorial based on a randomized block design, which consisted of 2 factors. The first factor is the use of organic fertilizers, namely without organic fertilizers (P0), chicken manure (P1), Azolla compost (P2), and bokashi waste (P3). The second factor is the quantity of water supply, namely 350 mm/season (Al), 450 mm/season (A2), and 550 mm/season (A3). The results showed an interaction between the type of organic fertilizer and the amount of water supply on the total dry weight of the plant at harvest, the number of seeds, and the percentage of seed success. The enormous total dry weight of plants and the largest number of sources occurred in the combination of giving chicken manure and a water supply of 550 mm/season. Meanwhile, the highest percentage of seeds was in the variety of Azolla fertilizer treatment and water supply of 350 mm/season. The water supply treatment also significantly affects plant height, the number of leaves, and plants' total dry weight. Simultaneously, the yield components, namely the dry weight of seeds and the weight of 100 seeds with a water supply of 550 mm/season produced the best results.

Abstract

Waste containing heavy metals is an environmental issue and is a concern of many parties. Heavy metal ions/compounds come from various activities such as the metal production industry, metal plating, mining operations, and leather tanning. Metal waste is one type of inorganic waste that we often encounter in Final Processing Sites due to the continuous accumulation of waste and produce pollutants in the form of leachate. Leachate has the potential to contaminate groundwater. This study aims to explore and identify morphologically bacteria obtained from soil contaminated with leachate and can degrade hazardous and toxic materials on waste containing heavy metals. Soil samples were taken from the landfill soil at TPA Tamangapa, Makassar, taken as a composite sample, while the bacterial isolation used the steak plate method. The research stages included bacterial cultivation, morphological tests, and calculating the number of colonies using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method. The results showed that 10 pure bacterial isolates could grow on NA media enriched with 5ppm lead metal.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the resistance level of saline tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) seeds obtained from tilapia broodstock that has been vaccinated with attenuated S. iniae bacteria against streptococcocis infection. This research was conducted in June-September 2020 at the Mini Hatchery Laboratory of the Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences, Hasanuddin University. The fish seeds used are 3-5 cm in size and 7-10 g in weight. The bacteria Streptococcus iniae were soaked in seeds for 30 minutes using concentrations of 105 CFU/mL, 107CFU/mL, 109CFU/mL, and without immersion. The seeds were then kept in a 40x25x20cm3 aquarium with a density of 50 seeds per aquarium for one month and fed at satiation. During the experiment, the media quality of the seeds was maintained within an acceptable range for the growth and viability of saline tilapia. The parameters observed were survival, RPS, and lysozyme activity in saline tilapia seeds. The optimal result that can increase the resistance of saline tilapia fry against Streptococcocis infection is at a concentration of 107 CFU/mL. This concentration can increase the survival rate, RPS, and lysozyme activity in saline tilapia.

Abstract

Traditional fishers play an essential role in Indonesia's fishing business because most fishers are small-scale fishermen who are commonly referred to as conventional fishermen. This study's aim was to determine the factors that affect the income of traditional fishers in Bone Regency. The data used were cross-section data of 30 traditional fishermen in Tanete Riattang Timur and Sibulue Districts, Bone regencies. Data were analyzed by multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the variable price, amount of catch, and experience in fishing had a positive and significant effect on increasing fishermen's income in Bone Regency. Meanwhile, the variables of capital, number of workers, level of education, and number of dependents had no significant effect on fishermen's opinion. So the stability of fish prices during the fishing season needs attention from the government to increase fishermen's income.
