Abstract

This study aims to identify the fucoidan content extracted from Sargassum sp. collected from Sundak Beach, Gunung Kidul. Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide compound with various biological activities, including anticoagulant, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities. Sargassum sp. was chosen as the source of fucoidan due to its abundance in coastal waters and its pharmacological potential. The extraction method was carried out using a hot water extraction technique with acid treatment, followed by a purification process using dialysis. The extracted fucoidan content was then analyzed using spectrophotometry and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to determine its concentration and purity. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to identify the functional groups of the compound. The results showed that fucoidan was successfully extracted from Sargassum sp. with a significant yield. The main component of the extracted fucoidan from Sargassum sp. in this study was fucose, as indicated by the TLC results. The Rf value of the fucoidan hydrolysate from Sargassum sp. and the standard fucoidan, which was 0.51, matched that of fucose, indicating that both samples contained fucose. This study concludes that Sargassum sp. from Sundak Beach, Gunung Kidul, is a potential source for high-quality fucoidan production.

Abstract

One effort to increase sweet corn production is to defoliate the leaves at the right time. The problem is, how many leaves and when is the right time to defoliate them is not yet known. Therefore, research was conducted which aimed to determine the effect of the number of leaves and defoliation time interval on the growth and yield of sweet corn. The research was carried out in Nyurlembang Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency, in July - November 2022. Experimental research method with a factorial completely randomized block design grouped into three blocks. The first factor tested was the number of leaves defoliated, namely 0, 2, 4 and 6 pieces. The second factor is defoliation time, namely when the plants are 28, 42 and 56 days after planting.. Data were analyzed using farian analysis and continued with the LSD test at the 5% level. The results showed that defoliation of the number of leaves at different times had a significant effect on the growth and yield of sweet corn. There was no interaction between the two independent variables on the growth and yield of sweet corn. Defoliation of 2 leaves carried out when the plants were 28 HST had a negative effect on plant growth and yield and was not significantly different from no defoliation treatment. Defoliation of 4-6 strands carried out when the plants were 42 – 56 HST, was able to produce cob length, cob diameter, number of rows of cobs-1, weight of fresh cobs ha-1, dry shell weight ha-1; and the weight of 100 dry seeds is significantly higher than the defoliation of 2 leaves and 0 leaves, so it needs to be applied in future sweet corn planting efforts.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the Poaceae weed species that have a significant effect on corn yield loss in dry land. The research method was descriptive and data collection using survey techniques in 10 sample plots measuring 1 m2 which were placed using random sampling. Observation parameters include the number of species and populations of weeds, the population of corn plants in plot-1 and the dry biomass weight of weeds and corn in plot-1. Quantitative data analysis by calculating relative density, relative frequency and relative dominance values to calculate the importance value index and Summe Diminance Ratio (SDR). The results showed that the diversity, evenness, dominance and abundance of Poaceae weeds in corn plants in dry land was high. So it was found that seven species of weeds were dominant and continued to exist while the corn was growing, namely Paspalum vasginatum Sw., Leersia hexandra Sw., Digitaria longiflora (Retz.) Koel., Digitaria ciliaris (Retz.) Koel., Cynodon dactylon L., Eleusine indica Gaertn., and Panicum repens L. The competitiveness and ability to reduce corn yields of the weeds Paspalum vasginatum, Leersia hexandra and Digitaria longiflora are higher than other weeds, so that corn yield losses due to competition reach 16.45%, 7.48% and 4.40%. The weeds Brachiaria reptans, Axonopus compressus and Echinochloa colonum do not need to be controlled in corn after the plants are 45 DAT, because their competitiveness and ability to eliminate crop yields is very low.

Abstract

This research was carried out with the aim of determining the reproductive efficiency of Kacang goats and goats resulting from crosses with Boer goats (Boerka goats). This research was carried out in the area of development of the Kacang goat and a cross between the Kacang goat and the Boer goat (Boerka) in Lombok with the aim of determining the level of reproductive efficiency of the Boerka goat and the Kacang goat in the people's breeding business. The variables observed include: An Estrus Post Partum, Open Days, service per conception, service period and kid interval, litter size and first mating after giving birth. Location determination was carried out using purposive sampling based on the breed of goats being kept. Livestock samples were taken randomly from 60 mother goats (30 Kacang mother goats and 30 Boerka mother goats). The observation data was tabulated using the Excel program and then analyzed using the t-test. Data analysis activities use Genstat software. Goat race/breed has no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the first estrus after giving birth, service conception and number of offspring per birth, but has a significant effect (P < 0.05) on service period, days open and calving interval (kid interval). The calving interval for the mother Kacang goat is longer, namely 253.00 ± 14.87 days (8.4 months) compared to the mother Boerka goat, namely 234.86 ± 07.09 days (7.8 months).

Abstract

This study aims to determine changes in yield and correlation between quantitative traits of mutant plants of the M3 generation of G16 brown rice irradiated with 200 Gy gamma rays. The research method used was an experimental method which was carried out with field experiments and took place in paddy fields in Tatar Hamlet, Nyurlembang Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara which was carried out from May to November 2022. The research was arranged using a Randomized Block Design (RAK) in a partitioned design. The treatment consisted of 33 genotypes resulting from gamma irradiation mutations and 3 comparators as test genotypes namely G16, Cigelis and Inpari 32. Each tester genotype was repeated 3 times, so that 42 experimental units were obtained. Observations were analyzed using analysis of variance and a 5% level of phenotypic correlation coefficient. Quantitative traits that show significant results were tested further using the Honest Significant Difference (BNJ) at the 5% level of significance. The results showed that 200 Gy of gamma irradiation did not change the yield of the M3 mutant strain. On the other hand, the criterion of the phenotypic correlation coefficient of the observed quantitative traits showed a significant difference with the results. Plant height and filled grain weight gave a very strong real correlation, while strong criteria were indicated by the longest panicle and number of filled grains, and panicle length and empty grain weight obtained a sufficiently significant correlation, and very weak criteria were obtained on flowering age, total tiller number, number of productive tillers, number of empty grain and 100 grain weight

Abstract

The Gili Balu Marine Conservation Area (KKP), located in Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, is ecologically and economically significant due to its rich coral reef ecosystems. This research aims to measure the abundance and biomass of reef fish in the KKP Gili Balu, which can be used as a basis for evaluating the effectiveness of conservation efforts in maintaining marine biodiversity. The Underwater Visual Census (UVC) method was used, recording types of reef fish at ten observation points. The results showed that the highest abundance was found on Mandiki Island, with functional fish abundance reaching 2973 ind/ha, followed by Pasareang Barat Island (1903 ind/ha) and South Kalong (1600 ind/ha). The biomass of functional fish also reflects their important role in maintaining the balance of the coral reef ecosystem. This research contributes to the scientific understanding of marine biodiversity in the KKP Gili Balu and provides a basis for sustainable conservation management efforts. Additionally, the research recorded the presence of several coralivorous and economically important fish species, although they tend to be smaller compared to functional fish. Economically important fish in the KKP Gili Balu waters were found only at four observation locations: East Belang Island, North Belang, Kenawa, and Southwest Namo. The highest value was recorded at Kenawa Island, with 93 ind/ha. These fish tend to be rare in this area, possibly due to past fishing practices.
