Abstract

Background: Diarrhea is one of the major health problems among elementary school students, which can affect their attendance and academic performance. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of diarrhea in elementary school children. Method: This research is a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional design involving 95 students as samples. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis with frequency percentages and bivariate analysis using the chi-square statistical test (p value 0.05). Result: The results showed a significant relationship between the incidence of diarrhea and access to clean water facilities (p value=0.000), the role of health workers (p value=0.001), handwashing behavior (p value=0.001), and consumption of snacks (p value=0.004). Meanwhile, no significant relationship was found between knowledge (p value=0.609) and the role of teachers (p value=0.189) with the incidence of diarrhea among students. Recommendation: There is a need to improve health education, school sanitation, and the involvement of parents and teachers in shaping clean and healthy living behaviors among children. In addition, integrating school health programs (UKS) more actively and conducting regular monitoring of the school environment are also recommended.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety in pregnant women can arise, especially in the third trimester of pregnancy until delivery. During this period, pregnant women feel anxious about various things, such as whether the baby is born normally or not, and the pain that will be felt. As the delivery schedule approaches, especially in the first pregnancy, it is normal for feelings of anxiety to arise. Anxiety during pregnancy can lead to depression due to fear or even trauma if there are problems during labor so that the mother does not want to give birth again. Therefore there is a need to study the behavior of pregnant women in the third trimester with their level of anxiety when facing childbirth in the working area of the Tangse Health Center. Method: This research was conducted using a descriptive- analytical method using a cross- sectional design. The population in this study was 459 pregnant women who were in the working area of the Tangse Health Center. Sampling used purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 80 respondents. Results: The results showed that 24.4% of pregnant women considered themselves not anxious, with 59.8% mild anxiety and 14.6% moderate anxiety. The results of the bivariate analysis show that there is no significant relationship between maternal age (p-value 1.000), maternal education (p-value 0.849), maternal knowledge (p-value 0.196), antenatal care visits (p-value 0.934), and husband's support. (p-value 0.055) with anxiety in facing childbirth in the working area of the Tangse Health Center, Pidie Regency. Recommendation: It is hoped that future researchers will be able to conduct research related to suggestion therapy in pregnant women, and for health workers, it is hoped that  health workers will further increase the provision of health information (counseling) regarding pregnancy, especially to primigravida mothers.

Abstract

Background: Diarrhea is a significant public health problem in many countries, including Indonesia. Meunasah Balee Village in the Lhoknga Subdistrict has been identified as the area with the highest number of diarrhea cases reported at the local Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in 2017. This study aims to examine the relationship between the physical condition of dug wells and the incidence of diarrhea in Meunasah Balee Village. Method: This study employed a descriptive-analytic method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all households (81 households) that had dug wells. Data collection was conducted over 10 days from January to February 2019 through physical measurements, interviews, and observations. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with the help of SPSS version 20. Result: The study found a significant relationship between several physical factors of dug wells and the incidence of diarrhea. The distance between septic tanks and dug wells was significantly associated with diarrhea incidence (p value = 0.004), as was the distance from pollution sources (p value = 0.002), and the physical condition of the wells (p value = 0.018). Laboratory examination results showed that all samples from households with diarrhea cases (100%) failed to meet microbiological quality standards based on the Most Probable Number (MPN) test. Recommendation: The study concludes that the physical condition of dug wells—such as the distance to septic tanks, distance to pollution sources, and the overall condition of the well—is directly associated with the incidence of diarrhea in Meunasah Balee Village. It is recommended that the Health Office conduct intensive education campaigns on the importance of clean water supply, septic tank management, and pollution control as preventive measures to reduce diarrhea cases in the area.

Abstract

Background: Diarrheal disease frequently causes outbreaks (KLB) with a large number of cases occurring in a short period. It remains a leading cause of mortality among children under five in Indonesia. The primary cause of death due to diarrhea is inappropriate management, both at the household level and in healthcare facilities. Reducing mortality from diarrhea requires prompt and proper treatment. Method: This research is a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional design, using interviews for data collection. The population studied was from January to June 2019, with a total sample size of 80 individuals, representing the entire population. Data collection was conducted from July 25 to August 8, 2019. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the non-parametric Chi-square test. Result: Univariate analysis showed that 24 children (30%) had diarrhea, while 56 (70%) did not. Regarding knowledge, 36.3% of respondents had high knowledge and 63.8% had low knowledge. For exclusive breastfeeding, 30% had been given exclusively and 70% had not. As for Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), 40% practiced it well and 60% did not. Bivariate analysis indicated no significant relationship between knowledge and diarrhea incidence (p-value = 0.312), a significant relationship with exclusive breastfeeding (p-value = 0.016), and no relationship with PHBS (p-value = 0.808) at a significance level of α = 0.05. Recommendation: Parents are advised to pay greater attention to the health conditions of children with diarrhea, particularly in ensuring exclusive breastfeeding and applying proper Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors.
