Abstract

Tour de Singkarak (TdS) is an international cycling event held by the West Sumatra government since 2009. The problem of this study was that the significance of the effect or impact of the Tour de Singakarak (TdS) in increasing the participation rate of people in sports in Kerinci Regency was not yet known. The authors used a quantitative method to reveal research findings in this study. The cross-sectional design was used to collect data. Participants of this study were 509 people spread over 18 sub-districts in Kerinci Regency. The data were analyzed using SPSS software. The results showed that the Tour de Singkarak (TdS) bicycle racing event increased the community sports participation rate in Kerinci Regency by 65%. It indicates that the Tour de Singakrak (TdS) bicycle racing event effectively increases community sports participation rates, especially in Kerinci Regency. Therefore, future sporting events must be carried out continuously to maintain community participation in sports. The high participation of people in sports in an area will bring many benefits to that area.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine the correlation between physical fitness and the concentration of West Java gymnastics athletes. The method used in this research was descriptive quantitative method with correlational design. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling, involving seventeen young athletes (9 women and 8 men; age 19.71 ± 4.22 years, height 1.57 ± 0.07 m, body mass 52.4 ± 7 .58 kg) who were members of PPLP (Student Sport Education and Training Center) and Pelatda (Regional Training Center). The instruments used in this study were a physical condition test (sit and reach test, trunk lift test, standing stork test, whole body reaction, hurdle jump test, 12 core stability test, and beep test) for physical fitness and a concentration grid test for measuring concentration ability. The data processing and analysis results found a correlation of (r = 0.50 with a p-value of 0.0410.05) and a coefficient of determination of 25%. It concludes that there is a correlation between physical fitness and the concentration of West Java gymnastic athletes. Physical fitness is a crucial aspect for an athlete to meet the needs of movement and to perform optimal gymnastic movements without feeling excessive tired, so that they can maintain concentration when practicing or competing. Therefore, activities that can improve physical fitness are considered beneficial in increasing concentration abilities.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the contribution of protein intake and exercise frequency to the cardiovascular endurance of rowing athletes in the Student Sports Education and Training Center, known as PPLP, in Kendari. The research sample consisted of 50 athletes, including 25 junior PPLP rowing athletes aged 16-19 years and 25 formers senior PPLP rowing athletes aged 25-30 years. This research included an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The collected data were analyzed using the Pearson and Spearman correlation statistics tests. The instrument for measuring protein intake was the Nutrition Adequacy Rate based on WNPG VII 2019. Exercise frequency data were obtained through interviews using a questionnaire. Cardiovascular endurance was measured by the athlete’s maximum mileage from a 15-minute running test. The results of the Spearman correlation test between exercise frequency and cardiovascular endurance showed no significant results (p 0.05). Exercise frequency had a significant positive relationship with cardiovascular endurance (p = 0.004, r = 0.395). It showed that there was a significant relationship between protein intake and cardiovascular endurance (p = 0.003, r = 0.415). The junior rowing athlete group generally had moderate cardiovascular endurance (80.0%), while the former senior rowing athlete group generally had sufficient (48.0%) and less (44.0%) cardiovascular endurance. On average, the cardiovascular endurance of the junior rowing athlete group (40.1 ml O2/kg BW/min) was higher and significantly different (p 0.05) compared to the former senior rowing athlete group (36.2 ml O2/kg BW/min). Athletes with normal protein intake (75%) had a good cardiovascular endurance. Most athletes with normal protein intake had sufficient cardiovascular endurance (45.4%). Meanwhile, the athlete with a severe protein deficiency had less cardiovascular endurance (38.4%). This study concludes that the higher the sports activity, the higher the need for protein consumption, which eventually increases the work function of the heart, especially in rowing athletes in PPLP Kendari.

Abstract

Participating in sporting competitions exposes college students to body collisions and complex movements, leading to a higher risk of musculoskeletal injury. If not appropriately treated, acute injuries could evolve into overuse injuries. It can interfere with student activities and academic performance. This study aimed to investigate the overuse injury rate and its association with possible identified risk factors in college athletes. This study is a cross-sectional study involving 100 college athletes from four different sports, including badminton (26 athletes), basketball (21 athletes), futsal (30 athletes), and volleyball (23 athletes). The injury rate was presented as a number of injuries/1000 athletes-exposure (A-E) and 1000 hour-exposure. Possible identified risk factors, gender, age, body mass index (BMI), sports type, and activity were documented. Data on injury rate and student identity were obtained using a questionnaire. Weight and height were measured. Chi-square was applied to analyze the relationship, while binary logistic regression was used to estimate the magnitude of the risk of overuse injury using a reference value. Significance was determined at p0.05. The incidence of overuse injury was 26.2% of all injuries (28 cases). The overall injury rate was 2.58/1000 A-E or 1.41 1000 h-exposure. According to A-E exposure, the highest overuse injury rate was in basketball (3.97/1000 A-E), while the lowest (1.8/1000 A-E) was in futsal. Meanwhile, based on 1000 h-exposure, volleyball was the highest (2.17/1000 h-exposure) and badminton was the lowest (0.85/1000 h-exposure). The overuse injury was mainly found in the lower limb (53.6%). No possible identified risk factors were found to have a relationship with overuse injury (gender, p=0.922; age, p=0.344; BMI, p=0.223; sport type (contact/non-contact), p=0.983; sport type (team/individual), p=0.364; and circumstance (training/competition), p=0.325). The overuse injury rate in college athletes varies depending on the type of sport, with the lower limb being the most affected site. No association was found between possible identified risk factors and overuse injury.

Abstract

Running is a sport with the largest number of participants worldwide. This sport is one of the most frequently held sports. Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a common syndrome in runners. It even becomes the second most common injury occurring in 1.6% - 12% of all injuries in runners. ITBS can affect up to 10% of active runners. Excessive tension in the iliotibial band (ITB) causes infection and tissue compression, causing iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). This research aimed to understand the relationship between running distance and the incidence of iliotibial band syndrome in runners. This study used a correlation study method with a cross-sectional approach. In this study, the authors applied the non-probability and incidental sampling techniques. The samples of the study were 80 runners who had consistently run for more than three months. The research data collection instruments included Ober's test for iliotibial band syndrome and a Google form questionnaire for the respondent history. Hypothesis testing used the Chi-Square. The data analysis on the relationship between running distance and the incidence of iliotibial band syndrome found no relationship. It indicates that running distance does not affect the incidence of iliotibial band syndrome in runners. The authors hope that this research can become a baseline or basis for developing preventive interventions for iliotibial band syndrome.
