Abstract

The study aimed to obtain empirical evidence about the direct impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the active lifestyle of high school students in West Java and the activities carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study population included high school students in West Java, while the samples were chosen randomly, involving 1,715 students representing each district in West Java. The research method used was the descriptive quantitative method. The instrument used was a physical activity questionnaire for children (PAQ-C). Data analysis employed Microsoft Excel and SPSS 24. The results showed that the student's active life behavior before the Covid-19 pandemic was mostly distributed in the high (857 people, 50%) and moderate (824 people, 48%) categories. Meanwhile, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the most distribution was in a low category (847 people, 49%). The level of student active behavior before the covid-19 pandemic was in the high category, while the level of student active behavior during the covid-19 pandemic was in a low category. This data showed that the COVID-19 pandemic decreased the student's active living behavior from the moderate to the low category. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the activities carried out were jogging, traditional sports, football, volleyball, badminton, basketball, futsal, Pencak Silat, strength training, and gymnastics. Meanwhile, the activities carried out during the pandemic included sunbathing, walking, jogging, cycling, watching more TV, playing games, sleeping, sitting around, and helping the elderly.

Abstract

Adolescent athletes need more nutrient intake than adolescents of the same age due to their high activities, especially during exercise, to avoid disruption in their growth process. The athlete is also required to have a good body composition to achieve optimal performance. This study examined the relationship between body composition and nutrient intake of female adolescent athletes and their fitness level. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 28 female athletes of Tulungagung Training Centre selected using systematic random sampling. Dietary assessment (energy and macronutrient intake) and body composition (FM, FFM) were measured using 2x24 hours food recall and InBody270. The maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) was measured using Multistage Fitness Test. Independent sample t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and Spearman test were performed using SPSS 25. The results found that most athletes had a lower macronutrient intake, especially energy, carbohydrate, and fat which did not meet the Recommended Dietary Allowance. However, endurance athletes consumed more protein (p=0,044) and fat (p=0,873) than non-endurance athletes. Spearman test revealed a negative correlation between energy intake, fat mass, and VO2max. In general, many athletes consume macronutrients less than the RDA. Dietary intake and body composition in highly trained adolescent female athletes must be optimized and monitored to achieve better performance and physical fitness.

Abstract

This study aimed to study the correlation between physical activity level and social-cognitive process based on gender among adolescents. This study carried out a cross-sectional survey involving 94 adolescents in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia (54.3% male, average 14±3 years). Physical activity level was assessed using the Physical Activity Questionnaire-Adolescent Questionnaire (PAQ-A). Social cognitive processes (including self-efficacy, outcome expectation, and self-regulation) were assessed using the Self-Efficacy for Exercise, the Multidimensional Outcome Expectations for Exercise, and the Self-Regulation Scales. Mann-Whitney test was used to compare physical activity levels and social-cognitive processes between males and females. Spearman correlation test was used to assess the association between physical activity level and social-cognitive process based on gender. The results of the study indicated no differences in the physical activity levels between male and female adolescents. Self-efficacy and outcome expectation did not correlate with physical activity level. In contrast, self-regulation was correlated with physical activity in male (r=0.279, p=0.048) and female (r=0.444, p=0.003) adolescents. The results indicate that self-regulation is the most important social-cognitive process determining physical activity level. For this reason, improving self-regulation skills is vital to promote physical activity levels among adolescents.

Abstract

This study aimed to verify the prevalence of athletes with intellectual, anthropometric, and physical-conditional disabilities in Athletics. Mixed research was conducted employing descriptive, exploratory, and non-experimental studies. Document analysis, surveys, interviews, measurements, and statistical analysis were used. The reliability and validity of the instruments showed a confidence interval of (95%), with a standard value of (p0.05). This prevalence study involved ten male athletes with disabilities (age ±13.6, weight ±58.3, and height ±1,605). The results showed that physical-conditional anthropometric characteristic was the main variable distinguishing the athletes. Furthermore, based on the mean value of each indicator, it also relied on the upper and lower extremities and functional conditions. In conclusion, greater attention should be given, especially to athletes with certain physical conditions, to achieve better results in Olympics.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a challenge primarily for sports physical education and health learning (SPEH) since it needs to be provided using face-to-face to obtain the learning process in the demonstration, observation, evaluation, and improvement in learning motion. Therefore, this study aims to determine the learning conditions of SPEH during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study involved a descriptive quantitative method through questionnaire provided to the respondents involved in this research. The schools involved as samples are 150 SPEH Teachers in the elementary, junior, and high school levels in East Java of Indonesia. The findings indicate that several obstacles during the pandemic are insufficient infrastructure and the ability of teachers and students to implement SPEH learning, implication of this research is to provide an overview of SPEH learning patterns during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study concludes that there is a remarkable impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on SPEH learning, which suggests that in providing learning online, problems such as delivering practical material cannot be controlled properly in implementing online learning.

Abstract

Health information acquired from a health examination or screening is one of the requirements for participating in the Pencak Silat tournament. Unfortunately, the most common health tests cover only vital signs and weight checks. Those tests cannot accurately describe a person's health status, such as digestive and menstrual disorders, common among female athletes due to intensive physical training and the pressure to maintain body weight according to the tournament category. The Female Athlete Triad (FAT) is the name given to this condition. This is the first study to use the LEAF questionnaire to assess the risk of FAT in female Indonesian Pencak Silat athletes. This is an observational study using a cross-sectional design. Data were collected online from 207 participants using a purposive random sampling approach. According to the findings of this study, 53.6% (N = 111) of 207 respondents were at risk of FAT. The risk variables were closely associated with the number of exercise hours per week (P = 0.012) and education level (P = 0.023). The high prevalence of FAT and its high risk indicate the necessity for FAT screening as a requirement for competing in the Pencak Silat tournament and prevention of early osteoporosis and uterine function abnormalities in female Indonesian Pencak Silat athletes. Furthermore, FAT screening on female athletes in all sports is required to prevent the long-term clinical implications of FAT.

Abstract

Variabel frekuensi langkah menunjukkan angka rata-ratanya sebesar 4,77 langkah / det (stride frequency max).
