Abstract

Lack of critical thinking of students in studying physics, this can be seen from their daily scores with an average of about 65.00 lower physics than other subjects. The purpose of this research problem is to determine the effect of guided inquiry learning model with radical constructivism on students' critical thinking skills. This type of research is using a quasi-experimental. The population in this study were all students of class VII MTsS Darul Ulum Banda Aceh, while the samples were taken by two classes by purposive sampling, namely class VII Experiment class (VII-1) which consisted of 30 students, while the control class (VII-3) consisted of 30 students consists of 30 students. The instrument used is a written test. The results showed that the average pre-test for the control class was 22.36, while the average for the experimental class was 32.16. These results show that the average pre-test for both the control class and the experimental class is still in the low category. And the average post-test for the control class is 47.60, for the experimental class is 64.25. This shows an increase in critical thinking in the control class through the guided inquiry learning model but it is still in the low category, namely 0.26, while the experimental class shows an increase in critical thinking through the guided inquiry learning model with radical constructivism of 0.50 in the medium category. This study proves that the inquiry learning model with radical constructivism can influence students' critical thinking

Abstract

Understanding aspects of the Nature of Science (NOS) for preservice science teachers is one of the essential components to be able to understand Science and its processes. There are seven aspects of NOS: empirical, inference, creative, latent theory, tentative, scientific procedural myths, theories and laws of science, social and cultural dimensions, and their embedding in science. There are 48 preservice science teachers involved in this study. Researchers explored their views about NOS and Indigenous Knowledge (IK) through a validated questionnaire. Results showed that the students' opinions on NOS consisted of empirical, tentative, inference, law, scientific theory, and creativity. Meanwhile, aspects of laden theory, myths of scientific procedures, and social and cultural dimensions embedded with science have not been described by students. Fortunately, the students presented IK as an authentic context based on the culture in science learning.  Students express IK ideas: 1) biomedicine (40 students), Biopesticide (2 students), beauty ingredients (2 students), additives (1 student), and supernatural medicine (1 student). Integrating Science and IK as an authentic context in science learning leads IK toward high technology and strengthens NOS aspects. In addition, the assumption that IK has no future is declining.

Abstract

It is a necessity to develop environmental learning to solve climate change problems, in particular. One of the focuses is climate change learning at the elementary school level that requires elementary teacher candidates to understand various climate change issues. Skills needed are Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) measurable using Ichsan’s taxonomy as an innovation. Ichsan’s taxonomy consists of six thinking levels, namely identify, compare, implement, criticize problems, solve problems, and develop innovation. The study describes the HOTS of elementary teacher candidates using the HOTS of Climate Change with Ichsan’s taxonomy (HOTSCC-Ichsan). The study uses a descriptive method with a survey as the data collection technique. The study finds that the HOTS scores of the elementary teacher candidates measured using the HOTSCC-Ichsan are in a very low category (28.03). The finding indicates the need to enhance the HOTS-based learning intensively for the elementary teacher candidates. It requires learning media development to address the low HOTS. The research conclusion is that the HOTS of the elementary teacher candidates is low and needs an improvement

Abstract

Has successfully created the INoSIT learning paradigm to increase students' science literacy competency. This design aims to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) with inquiry and nature of science (NoS) models to teach scientific literacy to junior high school students using a multi-representation method. The BSCS 5E model (Involvement of Biological Science Curriculum Study, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration, and Evaluation) and the IBL model (Investigation-based learning) have many phases whose implementation requires many processes. So, the INoSIT model is designed to simplify multiple phases or sub-phases. As a result, IBL (inquiry-based learning) is ineffective and inefficient in terms of learning time. It is also challenging to teach scientific literacy of abstract concepts using this method. The study employs a descriptive analysis method in conjunction with a literature review pattern.  The INoSIT model with the syntax Eliciting, Hypothesis, Testing Hypothesis, Elucidation, and Reflection was created from the results of the investigation of the weaknesses of the BSCS 5E (Biological Science Curriculum Study Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration, and Evaluation) and the IBL (Inquiry-based learning) models. To construct students' knowledge of literacy and the study is anticipated to contribute to creativity, originality, and the development of a proclivity for inquiry and research

Abstract

Traditional medicine cannot be removed from the lives of Indonesian people. In addition to very minimal side effects, traditional medicine using natural ingredients is widely used by the Sumbawa people because it is easy to obtain, easy to process, economical and has been carried out for generations. One of the natural ingredients that are widely used is sentalo leaf. This leaf is widely used as a medicine for torn wounds to stop the bleeding that occurs. Sentalo leaves are simply ground and then placed on the torn wound. Apart from being an antibacterial, sentalo leaves also have the potential as antidiabetic. The application of the sentalo leaf is expected to be more efficient, easy to apply by the community in health services for people with diabetes mellitus. The design of this study was True Experimental with treatment using RAL (Completely Randomized Design) and data analysis using the one-way ANOVA test. The results of the analysis of the antidiabetic effectiveness of sentalo leaf tea were shown by looking at the significant value of the one-way Anova test of 0.000 < 0.05 which could be concluded that there was a difference in the antidiabetic activity of sentalo leaf tea. The difference in blood glucose reduction in the treatment with Glibenclamide as a control group with Sentalo leaf tea 250 mg/kgBW was the same and not significant. So, it can be concluded that the optimum dose of sentalo leaf tea to obtain effective antioxidant activity is 250 mg/kgBB
