Abstract

Low student participation in IPAS learning, limited instructional media, and reliance on printed materials at SD Kartika I-10 Padang have negatively affected students’ understanding. This study aimed to develop an electronic student worksheet (E-LKPD) based on cooperative learning that meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness for fifth-grade IPAS learning. The research applied a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model, which includes Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects were 22 fifth-grade students. The development process involved analyzing needs, curriculum, and student characteristics, designing visual and content aspects of the E-LKPD, validating with media, material, and language experts, followed by product revision, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, and pretest-posttest. Results indicated high validity with an average score of 95%, while practicality was rated very practical by teachers (95%) and students (88%). Student learning outcomes improved significantly, with mean pretest and posttest scores of 56.59 and 90.45, respectively. The Wilcoxon test confirmed a significant difference (Z = -5.735, p < 0.05), reliability reached 0.80038 (reliable), and the N-Gain score was 0.79 (79.37%) in the high category. These findings conclude that the cooperative learning-based E-LKPD is valid, practical, and effective for enhancing IPAS learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

Scientific argumentation is a crucial 21st-century skill in science education, yet many Indonesian students still struggle to construct evidence-based arguments. This study conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of Socio-Scientific Issue (SSI)-based learning on students’ argumentation skills. Twelve primary studies that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software, with effect sizes calculated using Hedges’s g. The analysis revealed very high heterogeneity among the studies (I² = 96.56%), indicating substantial variation in results. Under the random-effects model, which is more appropriate in this condition, the pooled effect size was negative and not statistically significant (ES = -0.588, p = 0.16). Although the fixed-effect model produced a significant positive effect (ES = 0.329, p = 0.000), this result is less reliable because it does not account for the high variability across studies. Publication bias tests suggested potential bias but did not alter the overall interpretation. These findings indicate that the effectiveness of SSI-based learning on argumentation skills is inconsistent across contexts. Therefore, while SSI-based learning shows potential in specific settings, its overall impact remains uncertain and requires cautious interpretation.

Abstract

Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a global health threat, with Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) as one of the most deadly pathogens. MRSA is resistant to methicillin and other β-lactam antibiotics, causing therapy failure and increased mortality up to 64% higher than non-resistant bacterial infections. This condition urges the development of new therapeutic strategies. This study focuses on sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.), which is rich in compounds such as brazilin (the main component), flavonoids, and tannins, which have been reported to have significant antibacterial activity against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus. Brazilin, a flavonoid, specifically exhibits inhibitory activity against MRSA. Based on the urgency of MRSA resistance and the pharmacological potential of sappan wood, this study aims to test the effectiveness of sappan wood isolation combined with amoxicillin against MRSA. The research method is a laboratory study that focuses on extract preparation, compound isolation, and in vitro antibacterial activity testing. The core results of the study showed that sappan wood extract (Caesalpinia sappan L.), which was identified to contain active compounds such as brazilein, was successfully extracted with a yield of 10.15%. Most importantly, the combination of sappanwood extract with amoxicillin showed a strong synergistic effect, as evidenced by the large inhibition zone diameter (up to 30.40±0.75 mm) against MRSA bacteria.

Abstract

The Ethno-STEM approach has been recognised as an innovative strategy for enhancing the relevance and meaningfulness of STEM learning by integrating local wisdom and culture. Despite its great potential, its implementation faces various contextual challenges. This study aims to map current trends and analyse challenges in the development and implementation of Ethno-STEM learning models globally, with a specific focus on the Indonesian context for the period 2020-2025. The method used is a systematic literature review of empirical and conceptual articles from indexed databases. The results of the study identify three main trends: (1) the systematic integration of traditional knowledge with modern STEM frameworks, (2) synergy with Project-Based Learning (PjBL) models, and (3) the use of digital technology as a catalyst. The findings also reveal a number of critical challenges, particularly at the level of teacher readiness, such as a deficit of epistemic competence in transforming local wisdom into STEM curricula, as well as limitations in contextual teaching materials, time, and supporting infrastructure. Based on this synthesis, this study recommends multi-level strategies to overcome these obstacles, namely strengthening teacher capacity through continuous professional development programmes focused on cultural mapping, developing open access resource repositories, and advocating for affirmative policies to support budget allocation and tripartite collaboration (school-government-community). Thus, this study provides an evidence-based roadmap for realising more inclusive, culturally responsive, and sustainable STEM education

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea, characterized by painful menstrual cramps, is a common condition among women of reproductive age that often disrupts daily activities and overall quality of life. Aromatherapy, as a complementary and non-pharmacological approach, has been proposed to alleviate such pain through its physiological and psychological effects. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of peppermint, lavender, green tea, lemon, and cinnamon aromatherapy in reducing dysmenorrhea pain among women of reproductive age. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group approach was employed. A total of 75 respondents were recruited and randomly assigned to the intervention group (n = 38) and the control group (n = 37). The intervention group received aromatherapy using selected essential oils during menstruation, while the control group received no treatment. Pain intensity was assessed using a standardized numerical rating scale (NRS). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and multivariate analysis to compare pre- and post-intervention pain levels between groups. The findings demonstrated a significant decrease in dysmenorrhea pain levels in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The mean pain score in the intervention group decreased from 7.8 ± 1.2 to 3.2 ± 1.1, while in the control group it only declined from 7.6 ± 1.3 to 6.5 ± 1.4. The observed reduction in pain supports the analgesic and relaxation properties of essential oils, particularly through their influence on the central nervous system and hormonal balance. These findings align with previous studies suggesting that aromatherapy may enhance endorphin release and reduce muscle tension associated with dysmenorrhea. Aromatherapy using peppermint, lavender, green tea, lemon, and cinnamon essential oils is effective as a complementary therapy for reducing dysmenorrhea pain in women of reproductive age. This non-pharmacological approach can be recommended as an accessible and safe alternative to improve menstrual health and comfort.

Abstract

Premarital HIV testing plays a crucial role in preventing HIV transmission within families. Knowing one’s HIV status before marriage allows couples to take preventive measures—such as consistent condom use—to minimize the risk of transmission through sexual contact. This study aimed to analyze the determinants that influence the attitudes of brides-to-be toward undergoing HIV testing in Palembang City, focusing on respondent characteristics, HIV education, and confidence in being free from HIV infection. This research employed a cross-sectional design involving all prospective brides and grooms in Palembang City. The study was conducted from November 2024 to January 2025 at several health facilities, including PMB Dewi Ratna Sari Am.Keb, PMB Meli Rosita, Citra Maternity Clinic, the South Sumatra Police Polyclinic, and Pendopo Empat Lawing Health Center. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using chi-square statistical tests with univariate and bivariate approaches, supported by SPSS version 25. The findings showed no significant relationship between respondent characteristics and attitudes toward HIV testing. However, a significant relationship was found between education about HIV testing and respondents’ confidence in being free from HIV infection with their willingness to undergo HIV testing. This indicates that increasing knowledge and awareness regarding HIV prevention can foster more positive attitudes toward premarital HIV testing. Strengthening HIV education among prospective brides and grooms is essential to encourage proactive attitudes toward testing. Health workers and related institutions are advised to conduct regular educational activities—such as seminars, counseling sessions, and community-based interactive discussions—focused on HIV prevention and early detection.

Abstract

Cesarean section (Sectio Caesarea) is a medical procedure that often results in postoperative wounds requiring optimal management to support recovery. Early mobilization plays a critical role in accelerating the wound healing process by improving blood circulation and enhancing tissue regeneration. This study aimed to analyze the influence of early mobilization on the healing process in post-cesarean section patients in several hospitals. This quantitative study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected through questionnaires assessing early mobilization practices and direct observation of wound healing indicators. The study involved 40 postpartum mothers who underwent cesarean sections, selected through purposive sampling from four hospitals—Cilincing Hospital, RSIA Bunda Jakarta, RS Mekar Sari Bekasi, and RSU Ibu Pusat Jakarta—during December 2024. Data analysis included univariate (frequency distribution) and bivariate tests using the Chi-Square method. The statistical test showed a significant relationship between early mobilization and wound healing, with a p-value of 0.007 (< 0.05), indicating that early mobilization positively influences postoperative recovery. Patients who engaged in early mobilization exhibited faster wound healing compared to those who delayed movement. In conclusion, early mobilization is proven to be an effective intervention in enhancing the healing process among post-cesarean section patients. The findings highlight the importance of implementing early mobilization protocols as part of standard postoperative nursing care to improve maternal health outcomes.

Abstract

Pregnancy and childbirth are pivotal experiences in a woman’s life that involve not only physiological transformations but also intricate psychological adjustments. This study aims to explore and understand women’s psychological responses under various obstetric conditions, including postpartum, miscarriage, and high-risk pregnancies. A qualitative design with a phenomenological approach was employed to capture the essence of participants’ lived experiences. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation involving a total of 73 participants, consisting of 37 postpartum mothers as primary informants and 36 key informants (partners, healthcare professionals, and family members) from several regions in West Java and Banten. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s thematic analysis to identify patterns of emotional reactions and coping strategies among mothers facing different post-pregnancy conditions. The findings reveal distinct variations in psychological responses depending on the type of obstetric condition experienced. Mothers who underwent miscarriage or postpartum hemorrhage demonstrated higher levels of anxiety, sadness, and emotional distress compared to those with normal deliveries. Meanwhile, mothers with adequate social and familial support exhibited greater resilience and adaptability in managing emotional challenges. Problem-focused coping strategies were more prevalent among educated mothers with strong social networks, while emotion-focused coping was commonly found in those with limited support. In conclusion, this study emphasizes that social support and education play critical roles in shaping adaptive coping mechanisms and reducing psychological distress among women experiencing diverse obstetric conditions. Strengthening psychosocial interventions and community-based support systems is recommended to improve maternal mental health outcomes.

Abstract

Recurrent vaginal discharge is a common problem among adolescent girls and may cause discomfort and affect daily activities. Herbal preparations such as sour turmeric (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) and betel leaf (Piper betle L.) are known for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that may accelerate the healing process. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of sour turmeric and betel leaf herbal preparations in accelerating the healing duration of recurrent vaginal discharge among adolescent girls in Palembang in 2024. This experimental study used a two-group post-test-only design. The independent variable was the type of herbal preparation (sour turmeric and betel leaf), while the dependent variable was the duration of accelerated healing. The sample consisted of junior high school and Islamic boarding school students who experienced recurrent physiological vaginal discharge. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test with a significance level of 0.05. The findings showed a significant difference in healing duration between the two groups (p < 0.05). The betel leaf group experienced a faster recovery, with an average healing time 2.3 days shorter than the sour turmeric group. Betel leaf herbal preparation was more effective in accelerating the healing of recurrent vaginal discharge compared to sour turmeric. It is recommended for women as a natural alternative therapy for managing vaginal discharge.
